School Beauty's Personal Crazy Young Master

Chapter 989: Chapter 1073: Entering the Ghost Realm

Chen Nan was taken aback; this guy actually knew about his mentor-student relationship with the old man.

”Senior, you know my master?”

As soon as he asked this, Chen Nan felt he was saying nonsense. If the skull didn’t know his master, how could it say its chess skills were inferior?

The skull likely thought Chen Nan was talking nonsense too, as it didn’t answer him but instead waved its white bone arm and said, ”Will you proceed with me, or return home?”

Without finding Shi’er’s soul, Chen Nan definitely couldn’t go back.

He cupped his hands and said, ”Senior, I must find my sworn sister’s soul this time. Please let me in, for the sake of my master.”

The skull said nothing, directly slapped the chessboard with its white bone claw, instantly resetting all the pieces.

Chen Nan had no choice but to continue playing chess against it.

While the skull pawned its piece, it murmured, ”A chessboard is like a battlefield. Shape and power align, power and aura align, aura and intent align, to unite humans and chess and control the overall situation.”

Chen Nan frowned; was this skull ghost seemingly teaching him?

He pondered deeply on the skull ghost’s words, and as he gained insight, a tender shout rang out. Hua Xian’er was catching up and wielding a magic wand, she struck a bolt of lightning at Chen Nan.

”A young girl not at home learning to sew, coming out to fight and kill like this.”

The skull ghost spoke calmly, pushing both hands forward, a giant chessboard illusion appeared in the air, with neatly arranged pieces, trapping Hua Xian’er inside.

Hua Xian’er turned pale with fright, using magic power to charge left and right in the air but couldn’t escape the skull ghost’s chessboard confinement.

”Young girl, don’t waste your efforts. Once I’m done playing chess with him, I’ll naturally let you go.” The old ghost glanced at Hua Xian’er trapped in the chessboard and said indifferently.

Hua Xian’er snorted coldly, deploying all magic and constantly blasting.

The old ghost shrugged helplessly, pointed his bone hand into the air, and the pawn in the chessboard illusion advanced a step, instantly transforming into a heavenly soldier with a long spear, charging toward Hua Xian’er.

Hua Xian’er was startled; these chess pieces were actually offensive.

She desperately launched magic attacks at the heavenly soldier, but the soldier seemed ironclad, with all attacks vanishing instantly upon impact. He raised the long spear in his hand and stabbed it forward, a light screen shot out, instantly sealing Hua Xian’er’s acupoint.

The chessboard illusion in the sky disappeared, Hua Xian’er fell to the ground, losing mobility.

Chen Nan watched all this unfold beside him, stunned; the skull ghost’s mastery of chess on the board was truly divine transformation, able to forge a battlefield from the chessboard, using pieces as attack methods.

Such miraculous techniques, Chen Nan had never heard of before.

”Your turn.” The skull ghost said.

Chen Nan came back to his senses, eyes fixed on the chessboard, recalling the skull ghost’s previous words, he instinctively picked up his knight and launched an attack on the ghost’s cannon.

As he placed the piece, battle-horse whinnies, and the chessboard was filled with a murderous aura.

The skull ghost nodded with satisfaction but did not let Chen Nan notice, flicking its fingers, advancing its rook, pursuing Chen Nan’s other knight.

Chen Nan hesitated not, directly had his knight perform a series of moves, neutralizing the pursuit.

Both were like sparring, exchanging moves and breaking them down, with soldiers coming and generals blocking, water coming and dirt covering, this game lasted the longest at three hours, but ultimately Chen Nan still lost.

Yet Chen Nan wasn’t discouraged at all.

After this chess game, he felt his spirit realm had advanced a grade.

Setting the pieces right, the two began anew.

This time their game lasted half a day, though the result was Chen Nan still lost, his progress was nonetheless very apparent.

Such a round followed another, lasting several days. By the fifth day, Chen Nan found himself still losing to the skull ghost’s hand, knowing inwardly the ghost had not exerted its full strength, the more progress he made, the more it revealed just a bit more power.

The depth of the skull ghost’s chess skill, Chen Nan could not fathom.

However, through these days of competition, he learned some things about the ghost’s identity.

In life, he was a world-renowned chess saint. Later, he entered Tao through chess, cultivating astonishing cultivation, with chess in heart despite having none in hand. Others used chess skills in the chessboard to kill, whereas in his hands, they turned into enemy formations and killing moves.

As for why he eventually fell and became the skull ghost, the old ghost didn’t say and Chen Nan dared not ask.

”Your talent in chess Dao is not inferior to mine back then. Given time, surpassing me isn’t impossible, but for now, you’re far from this realm.” The skull ghost said.

Chen Nan cupped his fists in gratitude, ”Thank you, senior, for imparting the Chess Dao Holy Skill.”

”In the future, kill a few more Heavenly People clan experts, as a repayment to me.” The skull ghost gestured towards Hua Xian’er nearby and said, ”The war between the mortal world and Heavenly People clan might erupt anytime. This girl is exceptionally talented, with great future fortune. You must not take her life.”

Chen Nan smiled bitterly, ”It’s her chasing me now; I haven’t thought of killing her. Besides, I’m not sure I could.”

The skull ghost nodded, ”Realistically speaking, you indeed lose more than you win.”

Hua Xian’er coldly looked this way, even though several days had passed, the acupoint the ghost struck remained unbroken.

The skull ghost glanced at the city gate, using his bone palm to push it.

A rumbling sound ensued, the city gate slowly opened, the inside was pitch black, impossible to see anything from outside.

”Enter.” the old ghost said to Chen Nan, then turning to Hua Xian’er added, ”If you can restrain hatred and not attack him inside, you may enter too.”

Hua Xian’er bit her lip, took large strides towards the city gate, ”Thank you, senior!”

Though she hated Chen Nan deeply, through these days she was well aware of the skull ghost’s potency, daring not disrespect him.

Walking through the city gate, Chen Nan immediately felt a gust of wind.

Soon after, a ”boom” echoed as the gate behind him slowly closed. The city, already chilling, grew even more eerie.

Chen Nan furrowed his brows, scanning around, feeling everything before him was so familiar.

This Ghost Realm city appearance seemed identical to the Dead City he had visited before; internally, there are hardly any differences.

Could this Ghost Realm be the Dead City?

Just as Chen Nan thought this, heavy footsteps sounded from the street ahead, like a giant approaching, he immediately grasped the Divine Bow and Sky Splitting Arrow in hand.
