The Rebirth of the Fierce Little Cute Girl

Chapter 370: Chapter 369: Above the Law

When Ji Zhengguo saw Zhang Li again, his expression was extremely stern. He cast her a cold glance and said, ”Turns out you fooled me all the way. You swore you could train the members of Organization No. 1 well, so when Gu Tingyu came, I didn’t send you elsewhere. I never expected you to betray the organization. This time, you’re going to pay a heavy price for your actions.”

Zhang Li glanced at Ji Zhengguo, her expression completely fearless.

”I’ll be waiting for your punishment. Just don’t let it turn out that I wait for nothing when the time comes, then you’ve spoken too much.”

Seeing Zhang Li’s indifferent attitude even when facing him, Ji Zhengguo snorted coldly, ”Then just you wait.”

Zhang Li said calmly, ”Then I’ll wait.”

Upon seeing this, Ji Zhengguo no longer paid attention and turned to leave.

The next day, before he could take action, he suddenly received news that Zhang Li had been released without charges.

Hearing this, Ji Zhengguo stormed off to find his superior.

”Commander Qi, what’s going on here? Zhang Li betrayed the organization, how could she be released like this? I heard it was your idea.”

Seeing Ji Zhengguo coming in furiously, Qi Hexin shook his head helplessly, ”This is the decision from above, so there’s nothing I can do.”

”What do you mean from above? Whose idea was it from above?”

Seeing Ji Zhengguo’s blunt manner, Qi Hexin glanced at him, ”Speak softly, you may not fear trouble, but I do. I’ll be frank: higher authorities directly called and told us to release Zhang Li. So, Zhang Li’s backing is quite significant. We’ve truly underestimated her before.”

Hearing this, Ji Zhengguo felt even angrier.

”Zhang Li committed an unforgivable mistake. Even leaders above can’t just ignore right and wrong.”

”Alright Old Ji, saying more is useless now. She’s already been released, and you wouldn’t dare defy a leader above, would you?”

”There are several leaders above, tell me exactly who wants Zhang Li released.”

Seeing Ji Zhengguo’s persistent look, Qi Hexin simply held up three fingers.

Ji Zhengguo didn’t react at first, but later realized it likely meant the third-ranking leader.

”Is it... Elder Guan?”

Qi Hexin hurriedly covered Ji Zhengguo’s mouth, seeing him speak so directly.

”Old Ji, keep your voice down. Shouldn’t say these things lightly. Keep it to yourself, don’t get us all in trouble. Now hurry back. Zhang Li has already been released, and I’m powerless.”

Seeing Qi Hexin say this much, Ji Zhengguo said no more and turned to leave.

Watching Ji Zhengguo’s distant back, Qi Hexin couldn’t help shaking his head. He also felt oppressed, but what could he do?

On the other side, when Wei Zixiao heard the news, he immediately went to find Gu Tingyu.

”Tingyu, isn’t this infuriating? Zhang Li was released without charges. She nearly got Xiao Gao killed and leaked our whereabouts to the enemy. Isn’t that enough to convict her? I’m speechless.”

Hearing Wei Zixiao’s words, Gu Tingyu was also silent.

Although he knew there were internal problems, he didn’t expect it to be this severe. Someone backed Zhang Li enough to easily get her out. Can they really do nothing about it?

”Tingyu, should we go capture Zhang Li again?”

Seeing Gu Tingyu remain silent, Wei Zixiao couldn’t help suggesting.

Hearing this, Gu Tingyu quickly shook his head, ”No, we can’t do that. Without an arrest warrant, we can’t just apprehend someone. We’ll end up breaking the law ourselves.”

”Then what do we do, just watch Zhang Li get away with it? Let our brothers get hurt for nothing?” Wei Zixiao felt frustrated, pacing angrily.

At this point, Yiyi entered. Seeing Wei Zixiao, she asked, ”Here to see Tingyu?”

Wei Zixiao stopped pacing, forcing a smile, ”Yes, I came to see the boss.”

Yiyi looked at Wei Zixiao doubtfully. If she wasn’t mistaken, he seemed upset. Could he have had a conflict with Gu Tingyu? But that seemed unlikely upon reflection.

Wei Zixiao naturally noticed Yiyi’s gaze. Remembering their comradeship escaping Medicine Valley, he couldn’t help but recount the story about Zhang Li again, concluding, ”Sis-in-law, isn’t this infuriating? We know Zhang Li harmed Xiao Gao and betrayed our organization, yet she’s been released without charges. I can’t stand this. I just went to our leader, but it was useless. He says it’s an order from above, he can’t do anything either.”

Hearing this, Yiyi was also a bit surprised and then turned to ask Gu Tingyu, ”When did this happen?”

”It happened yesterday. I just found out.”

Wei Zixiao quickly added, ”I also got the news early today. After seeing our leader, I came directly to find boss Tingyu.”

Hearing this, Yiyi couldn’t help but think of Fan Qianshu.

Zhang Li has such a powerful backing, and what is Fan Qianshu’s connection with them after all? This time, Fan Qianshu happened to appear in Medicine Valley. Was it a coincidence or some other reason?

Seeing Yiyi not speaking, Wei Zixiao didn’t linger.

”Sis-in-law, I’ll head back first. If there’s any new information, I’ll come back to find Tingyu.”

Yiyi smiled and said, ”Alright.”

After Wei Zixiao left, Yiyi sat beside Gu Tingyu, ”Who do you think is behind Zhang Li?”

Gu Tingyu shook his head, ”I’m not sure yet, only certain that person’s power is significant.”

Yiyi frowned, thoughtfully, as memories of what Old Master Ding said resurfaced. Back then, grandpa mentioned a connection between Medicine Valley and Elder Guan, and that Gu Tingyu and the others were deliberately drawn there, almost getting in trouble in Medicine Valley. So...Could Zhang Li be related to Medicine Valley and Elder Guan?

Thinking this, Yiyi voiced her thoughts.

Gu Tingyu was full of surprise upon hearing Elder Guan’s name.

”Medicine Valley is really connected to Elder Guan?”

”It should be correct. Grandpa wouldn’t be mistaken.”
