Chapter 174: The Abyssal Ruins (Power Stone Milestone Extra Chapter 1/2)

[VIP Chat Group]

[Ash]: She won, won, won, won!!! That final Close Combat barrage from Zeraora was so awesome! Pikachu, did you see that?!

[Dawn]: Gym Leader Drayden’s Haxorus was incredible too! Once it started using Outrage, its presence was so intense that I could practically feel the floor shaking through the screen!

[Drayden]: I had already given that battle everything I had. Yet Miori remained calm even under those circumstances and still managed to find an opportunity to counterattack. She has indeed surpassed me.

[May]: Miori has collected all eight Badges now. Next, she’ll either head to the Pokémon League or Dragonspiral Tower. Everything happened so quickly that I’m suddenly feeling a little nervous.

[Lillie]: But Miori will definitely be all right! She has continued growing with every step she has taken since becoming Gym Leader. She’s already capable of facing whatever comes next!

The video continued playing.

Undella Town.

This seaside town was smaller than any city Miori had previously visited, but its scenery was the most beautiful she had ever seen.

The beach stretched from one end of the town to the other. The seawater was pale blue, while the sand glittered with countless specks of gold beneath the sunlight.

Several Wingull circled near the pier, occasionally diving down to snatch french fries that tourists had dropped onto the ground.

Miori stood on the observation deck at the town’s entrance, planted both hands on her hips, and inhaled deeply, filling her lungs with the salty sea breeze.

”Finally—I can rest!!”

She took out her communicator and decisively switched it off.

The instant its screen went dark, Miori felt her entire body relax considerably, as though even her soul had been liberated.

”I’ve already decided. For the next three days, I’m not going anywhere, and I’m not doing anything.”

Emolga poked its head out from atop hers, electricity flashing twice across its cheek pouches.

”Emolga, emolga~” (Are you sure about that?)

”Of course I’m sure!”

Miori stuffed the communicator into the deepest part of her backpack.

”Even if Arceus itself appears, no one is interrupting my vacation!”

She marched into Undella Town, heading directly toward the town’s only hot-spring inn.

When she pushed open the inn’s wooden door, the receptionist raised her head and offered a perfectly professional smile.

”Welcome. How many guests will be staying?”

”One.”

Miori slapped the black card onto the counter.

”I want the best room you have—the kind with its own private hot spring.”

After swiping the card, the receptionist’s smile immediately became even brighter.

”Certainly. We’ll prepare the ocean-view suite on the top floor for you. Please wait a moment.”

Miori nodded in satisfaction and leaned against the counter while waiting for her room key.

Just then, a familiar voice came from behind her.

”Miori?”

Miori’s smile instantly froze.

She slowly turned around.

Cynthia stood at the inn’s entrance with a suitcase in one hand. Her blonde hair rested casually across her shoulders, and she wore a light-colored casual outfit.

”Aunt Cynthia?”

Miori blinked.

”What are you doing here?”

”I’m involved in an archaeological project nearby, so I happen to be staying at this inn.”

Cynthia approached and looked Miori up and down.

”Are you traveling?”

”Mm. I just obtained my eighth Badge.”

Miori nodded.

”I’ll be participating in the Pokémon League next.”

”The Pokémon League...”

Cynthia rested one hand beneath her chin.

”Would you like me to give you a few days of special training? I happen to have very little work these next few days.”

”Huh?!”

”Is there a problem?”

”N-no, there isn’t. I’ll be in your care, Aunt Cynthia.”

Miori revealed an obedient smile.

Inside her mind, however, a miniature version of herself had already fallen to its knees and was pounding both fists against the ground.

My hot spring!

My beach!

My plan to sleep until I naturally wake up for three days and three nights!

It’s all gone!

Emolga covered its face with its wings and released an exceptionally sympathetic sigh.

[VIP Chat Group]

[Dawn]: Hahahahahaha! That smile on Miori’s face! Her soul is already floating out of her mouth! ヾ(≧▽≦)

[Iris]: Miori finally had an opportunity to rest, only to get caught by one of her elders. That’s far too miserable! (๑•́ω•̀๑)

[Bianca]: It can’t be helped. This is the protagonist’s destiny.

The video continued playing.

Over the next few days, Miori underwent intense, specialized training under Cynthia’s guidance.

She had to rise before sunrise and begin each day with running. The mornings were devoted to practical battles, while the afternoons consisted of theoretical exercises.

Although the training was intense, the results were equally significant.

Miori’s tactical thinking became far more refined, and Metang successfully evolved into Metagross, marking the final completion of her team’s lineup.

On the evening of the third day of special training—

Miori lay sprawled across a bench beside the training field, with Emolga lying on her back.

The girl and Pokémon had flattened themselves into two perfectly synchronized pancakes.

Cynthia stood nearby holding a cup of coffee, her expression remaining as composed and elegant as ever.

”Miori, you still haven’t completed the previous round of training.”

”Aunt Cynthia!”

Miori abruptly raised her head, her face filled with accusation.

”I finally managed to collect all eight Badges and came here hoping to get some proper rest, but then you caught me and forced me into special training!”

”Tell me honestly—was I so unlucky in my previous life because I destroyed the world or something?”

Cynthia tilted her head and seriously considered the question for two seconds.

”That is possible.”

”...”

”You didn’t even try to comfort me! You actually agreed with me?!”

”Because it does seem plausible.”

Cynthia put down her coffee.

”Your father was the same way when he was young.”

Miori froze.

”My dad?”

”Mm.”

A nostalgic look appeared in Cynthia’s eyes.

”He used to travel all over the world. Even when he was already exhausted, he would still stop whenever he encountered someone who needed help.”

”When I eventually asked him why, he said that he had simply grown accustomed to it.”

Miori fell silent.

Emolga raised its head from her back and poked her ear with its tail.

”...Fine.”

Miori climbed off the bench and rolled her shoulders.

”If Dad managed to endure it, then I should be able to as well. Let’s continue training!”

The corner of Cynthia’s mouth rose slightly, and she was about to speak again—

When the sky suddenly darkened.

Out at sea, directly in front of Undella Town, the pale-blue waters began flowing backward.

The entire surface of the sea parted from the center toward both sides, as though an invisible hand were tearing it open from within.

The opening grew wider and wider.

Along its edges, the seawater formed two vertical walls, while the interior of the chasm remained dark and seemingly bottomless.

A structure slowly rose from within the rift.

The Abyssal Ruins.
