I'm About to Die, Can't I Buff My Junior Sister's Strength?

231: Shen Nian’s friend?Inside a reception hall of the Shen Family, the decor was magnificent; the ancient walls were carved with lifelike patterns, emitting a hazy divine light.

Several Ji Family Elders were seated, their gazes continuously sizing up Ji Chenyu, who stood behind the Ji Family Old Ancestor.

”This girl has reached the Void Return Third Layer; her talent is truly that of a Prodigy, and her Void Realm body seems to have reached Minor Achievement...”

”Heh, and so what? Can you not tell after all these years? This little girl doesn’t look favorably upon our Young Clan Leader at all. It’s been six years; has she ever cared about the life or death of her fiancé? It’s only because the Ji Family Old Ancestor comes over to ask from time to time!”

”That was before. Look now, ever since our Young Clan Leader has changed for the better, hasn’t she come running eagerly? Anyway, I don’t like this girl; she isn’t even as likable as the Young Clan Leader’s Junior Sister!”

”That is true, but what can we do? Our Young Clan Leader likes her!”

At the head of the table, the Shen Family Grand Elder, Shen Yang, sat upright, exuding an air of authority without anger. Even though he was facing the strongest Old Ancestor of the Ji Family, his tone remained unhurried.

”The Young Clan Leader and the Old Ancestor are both not in the clan and cannot come. I hope Senior Ji Wuji will be understanding.”

Ji Wuji, who was sitting at the first seat on the right, smiled and said, ”It doesn’t matter, it doesn’t matter. Little Yang, you are being too distant. We will all be one family in the future, hahahaha!”

Listening to his hearty laughter, Shen Yang smiled without saying a word, and the other Shen Family Elders fell silent.

In fact, basically no one in the Shen Family liked Ji Chenyu. The main reason was simple: no one was a fool. Everyone could see what the Ji Family was after and whether Ji Chenyu truly liked the Young Clan Leader.

Although the other party had good talent, was good-looking, and had a matching background, Ji Chenyu’s personality from a young age and her constant arrogance toward Shen Nian made the Shen Family members dislike her. At that time, although Shen Nian’s talent had not been exposed, he was, after all, their Young Clan Leader.

Being looked down upon by a woman, and yet having to curry favor with her—who would be willing to do that?

However, due to the long-standing friendly relationship with the Ji Family, although they were somewhat dissatisfied in their hearts, no one dared to say anything.

After all, this engagement had been personally set by Shen Nian’s parents and Ji Chenyu’s parents when they were still alive.

Shen Min did not refuse after learning about it; at that time, Shen Min’s thoughts were entirely focused on how to resolve the deadly situation Shen Nian was in.

Coupled with the fact that Shen Nian was extremely good to Ji Chenyu at the academy later on, how could Shen Min not see that Shen Nian liked her? Naturally, he would not refuse.

”Chenyu greets the Grand Elder and all the Elders!”

Ji Chenyu, who had been standing behind Ji Wuji, took a small step forward and spoke calmly.

”No need to be so polite, we are all family,” at the head of the table, a flash of surprise crossed Shen Yang’s eyes, fleeting, and he revealed a faint smile, ”It has been several years, you have become more and more beautiful.”

Shen Yang knew very well that the reason for Ji Chenyu’s somewhat enthusiastic attitude during this visit was that the Young Clan Leader had become the Human Race Emperor and had revealed both his talent and combat power.

After that, it was some small talk between Ji Wuji and Shen Yang.

Shen Yang arranged for the only woman in the Shen Family sequence, the Fourth Sequence, Shen Na, to take Ji Chenyu around. They would not leave tonight, as tomorrow was the coming-of-age ceremony.

In a garden of the Shen Family, Spiritual Flowers and Divine Plants were everywhere, emitting divine light. After the sunset, it was even more magnificent, like a fairyland.

Two figures walked one after the other.

Walking in front was a short-haired woman wearing a moon-white robe. The robe was somewhat loose, fastened at the waist with a pale silver belt. On her fair, tender earlobes hung purple jade pendants, which seemed to have the Dao flowing within them as they swayed.

She was Shen Na, the only woman in the Shen Family sequence, twenty-seven years old, having just entered the Void Return Third Layer.

In terms of Realm, the gap between the Shen Family sequences was not very large, as they were all outstanding members of the young generation of the clan. However, in terms of combat power, because of the two super monsters, Shen Ye and Shen Wudao, Shen Na’s brilliance was naturally overshadowed.

But she was still one of the top Prodigies of the Human Race!

After a life-and-death ordeal in the Heavenly Abyss, she was saved by Shen Ye. She saw the unbridgeable gap between her and Shen Ye, gave up the struggle for the sequence, and chose to follow by his side.

Originally, in her view, the probability of Shen Ye winning the sequence struggle was the greatest. If the Young Clan Leader were still the way he used to be, it was very likely that Shen Ye would be the future Head of the Shen Family.

But in the few days since Shen Nian appeared, there had been nothing but shocking news, especially since he had become the Human Race Emperor. This made Shen Na feel that even if Shen Ye won, the Young Clan Leader’s position could not be shaken.

But Shen Na was not unhappy about this; after all, they were all family, and the fact that Shen Nian could instantly kill someone at the Void Return Fifth Layer was enough to prove his strength.

It was just that...

The only thing that made her dissatisfied was Shen Nian’s fiancée!

”I know you don’t like me, but I still want to say one thing: it is not that I want to marry into the Shen Family; it is your Young Clan Leader who likes me and wants to marry me, and the Ji Family wants to marry me off. None of this is my wish, and I hope Young Miss Shen Na understands this principle...”

Ji Chenyu walked in the garden with her hands behind her back, her voice carrying a hint of cold arrogance, her expression composed.

On the way here, she had thought it over carefully: if Shen Nian was still the same toward her as he was back then, then she would just give him a chance.

Now it seemed that Shen Nian’s talent and strength had already met her requirements.

As soon as these words were spoken, Shen Na’s mouth twitched.

Help!

What kind of confident woman is this!

How could Shen Nian like her? I really don’t understand!

Although she was complaining in her heart, Shen Na still forced a smile and said, ”Miss Ji is overthinking; no one dislikes you..”

If only you weren’t acting so pretentious!

However, Ji Chenyu continued on her own, ”Regardless of what you all think, this is a fact. By the way, these Spiritual Essence Grasses need someone to take care of them..”

”...” Shen Na’s eyelids twitched, and she had an urge to slap someone.

She hasn’t even married over yet!

Does she really think she is the mistress of the Shen Family?

Ordering me around?

But considering the relationship between the Ji Family and Shen Nian, Shen Na could only helplessly say, ”Alright.”

There was no other way; if Shen Nian really married her and ascended to the position of Head of the Family, and she offended her to death now, she was afraid that getting resources in the future would be...

Just at this moment.

A scent of roasted meat wafted over.

”How could someone be roasting meat here?” Ji Chenyu raised her eyebrows slightly.

When she was young, she and Ji Aotian often came to the Shen Family. She couldn’t say she knew the Shen Family like the back of her hand, but it was close enough.

This Divine Wood Garden was planted with tens of thousands of years old Spiritual Wood and Divine Plants, all of which could be used to refine Medicinal Pills above the Void Return level. Only the Shen Family was wealthy and imposing enough to plant such things casually on the ground.

Shen Na looked up and roughly guessed who it was.

Only one person lived in the separate courtyard within the Divine Wood Garden.

”Shen Nian’s friend?” Ji Chenyu was a bit surprised.

Until a woman as beautiful as a fairy walked out holding a skewer of roasted meat. After seeing the other person’s appearance, Ji Chenyu immediately showed a look of displeasure.

”Heh, hiding a beauty in a golden house?”

”What a Young Clan Leader Shen. If there isn’t a good explanation, perhaps I should reconsider...”

After saying this, Ji Chenyu turned and left, leaving behind a bewildered Shen Na.

...

Night.

Stars dotted the sky, and the bright moon hung high.

In a famous restaurant in Lingwu City, the noise was constant.

”Have you heard? A big thing happened to the Xu Family; the Spirit Tablet of the Xu Family Head’s son, Xu Wei, suddenly shattered!”

”Ah, wasn’t it said that the Xu Family spent a great price to pull strings and let Xu Wei go to the Lower Realm with a big figure from the Ji Family? How could something happen in the Lower Realm?”

”How would I know? Maybe he offended a big figure from the Ji Family...”

”There have been so many strange things happening lately. Some time ago, someone in the Southern Desert heard the Witch Clan’s High Priest wailing for two days. It is rumored that their God Child suddenly died, and they gathered all the tribes for a grand meeting...”
