Reincarnation of the Strongest Healer

Chapter 1483: Bardmon City Part 13

Once the soldiers acknowledged their skills, Cute Joy and Little Honey followed them to record the base layout.

They had Xu Feng as backing, so they didn’t doubt their credentials.

Moreover, if they were really suspicious, Kong Ming himself would have already eliminated them.

Sometime later, Xu Feng checked on the terrain and narrowed his eyes.

”It seems like the monsters are indeed planning on attacking at nightfall.” He commented.

During this time, there was a specific time when monsters received enhanced boosts in attributes.

A horde of monsters that were led by clever monsters would naturally take advantage of this opportunity to have a breakthrough.

Kong Ming nodded his head in agreement.

”It’s precisely because we know when they’ll attack that makes it easier for us to counterattack.” He narrowed his eyes and turned toward the region where the monsters were fast approaching them.

”These monsters are too overbearing. If we don’t cut them off here, who knows how many more people will suffer?”

Xu Feng realized this was his chance to get closer to Kong Ming.

He stepped forward and gazed at the far distance. ”Indeed, many people have lost their lives in this invasion. We’ll need to stop this war soon. Otherwise, the whole landscape and environment would change to an unrecognizable one.”

”Mhmm, many are already suffering from the lack of resources available and inflation.” It saddened Kong Ming very much to see how helpless their situation was.

Rising inflation was inevitable when resources became scarce due to the Colossuses invasion and devastating many cultivation lands. How many people have already starved to death because they couldn’t afford food?

The numbers were depressing as they were staggeringly high.

It didn’t help that some nobles were still so corrupted by hoarding grains and purposely inflating the prices to fill their pockets.

What made it beyond infuriating was that these nobles had a background to support their vile deeds and received little to no punishment.

”I happen to have a list of the corrupted nobles alongside evidence of their crime.” Xu Feng suddenly said.

”Unfortunately, I have just been accused of being a traitor of humanity, so I cannot bring forth such a list. Otherwise, people would only perceive my actions as retaliation and disregard all my evidence.” He continued, his expression revealed some sort of melancholy and regret.

Needless to say, he was trying to slowly creep into Kong Ming’s heart and get the latter to swear loyalty to him. But of course, while his intention wasn’t full of good, his desire was truthful.

He had no goodwill toward these corrupted nobles, who only had a black heart to earn money from the struggling classes.

Even someone like him, with very little bottom line, despised such an act!

He was someone also in the struggling classes, so he knew how difficult it was to survive in this time of crisis. To meet with even more cruel treatment from these despicable people was like the final nail in the coffin.

It was honestly a miracle that the struggling classes hadn’t openly revolted.

Or maybe they already did and jumped to the Colossuses’ side, albeit in a very discreet manner.

”You actually have a list of them and incriminating evidence?” Kong Ming staggered a few steps. He stared at Xu Feng in disbelief.

”I have witnessed too many people suffering.” Xu Feng took a deep breath and exhaled. ”I couldn’t stand the common people suffering longer and planned to intervene. But here I am, slandered and accused of being a traitor to humanity.”

The news of his being tried in the capital was spreading far and wide.

However, not many people knew the truth except for the confusing verdict.

An accused person not only didn’t get any verdicts besides being deployed to defend humanity, but it was quite ambiguous.

It meant that the Judge doubted he was really a traitor of humanity, but without sufficient evidence to clear his innocence completely, the judge decided to let actions speak for themselves.

”Do you perhaps have the list for me to see?” Kong Ming inquired.

”Very well.” He nodded and retrieved the list from his inventory.

Upon seeing the stack of papers, Kong Ming’s eyes narrowed.

His casual and laidback aura seemed to have vanished.

What replaced the relaxed expression was a completely focused and serious man who scrutinized every detail.

And with each passing time, the frown in Kong Ming’s forehead deepened.

”OUTRAGEOUS!”

He clenched the papers tightly, his eyes burned in fury. The recorded number of victims who suffered from their corruption was even worse than the casualties caused by the Colossuses.

The details were so vivid that it made it impossible for the information to be forged.

”You’re telling me those people will disregard these even if it’s so vivid?” Kong Ming asked in a disgusted tone.

”It’s called retaliation.” Xu Feng smiled bitterly. ”They’ve struck first before I could even present this evidence to the top. And now that I’m technically still under suspicion, anything I do or say will be taken as excuses to avoid punishment.”

”Hmph, if you present it, it will cause a controversy, then I’ll personally send this to the emperor himself!” Kong Ming declared solemnly.

”You will?”

”I will!”

”B-But your status...” Xu Feng feigned astonishment and wanted to advise him that his inferior status wouldn’t even let him enter the royal court.

’Are you still going to hide your identity?’ He mused inwardly. After so much talking and back and forth, Xu Feng more or less guessed Kong Ming’s true identity.

He should be the real City Magistrate of Bardmon City, and the person who was currently posing as one was most likely his puppet or double.

From the soldiers to the servants, almost everyone of importance hailed Kong Ming in high regard.

Not to mention, he had been here for a while already. Yet the City Magistrate still hadn’t greeted him?

That didn’t even make sense in general!

Sure enough, Kong Ming finally came clean.

”I am the City Magistrate of Bardmon City. I’ll have my men investigate the details here.” Kong Ming exuded an authoritative demeanor.
