Hogwarts: Even Voldemort Can't Stop Me From Studying

Chapter 1103: Chapter 190: Dream Weaver

Abigail froze completely.

Her mind was blank, an overwhelming emotion surged over her, leaving her brain completely empty.

Finally, all her thoughts collapsed into a state of bewildered daze, only Braun’s words pierced directly into the deepest part of her consciousness like an ice pick—

[Do all the memories and thoughts in your mind truly belong to you?]

She tried to recall, but those ”memories” about her family, her upbringing, and why she joined the Scourers, suddenly became blurred and suspicious.

It was like... looking at a familiar painting through frosted glass, the outline was still there, but the details were in chaos.

The more she tried to see clearly, the fuzzier and more questionable the memories became.

Most people have unclear memories of their childhood, and if their teenage memories are monotonous and repetitive, they might not be very clear either.

But Abigail’s life was full of ups and downs, with many moments she thought she would never forget in her lifetime.

But at the moment, she remembered the sweat during training, the excitement during the oath, the satisfaction, pain or remorse after some missions...

But what was the ”base color” of these memories?

She couldn’t even recall the color of her mother’s eyes.

The missions carried out in adulthood also seemed to have changed appearance...

For instance, that time she went to Benevento, Italy, infiltrating the local witch gathering, she still remembered some scattered fragments, but had no idea what her feelings were at the time.

When she heard how those witches used magic to play tricks on their husbands, did she laugh?... It seemed she did, but she didn’t know if she truly felt happy at the time.

There was another witch who shared her experience of using the wrong magic leading to the furniture coming alive and attacking each other, and she showed a huge scar on her body from the incident.

That scar, as hideous as a giant centipede, left a deep impression in Abigail’s mind.

[——What was I feeling at that time?]

Abigail asked herself, yet she couldn’t remember at all.

She even remembered the feeling of moonlight on her skin, the slight chill on her arms; remembered how the grass under her was a bit prickly until she conjured a cushion to make it better; remembered the expressions and voices of everyone at the gathering.

But her own feelings seemed nonexistent.

A chill ran up her spine, instantly spreading through her limbs.

Abigail shivered uncontrollably, barely able to stand. The world wobbled, distorted before her eyes, and she suddenly couldn’t tell what was real and what was false.

If even memories could be woven and altered, then who exactly was ”Serra Abigail”?

All that she hated, all that she was loyal to, all that she had experienced... how much of it was real?

Braun watched her in her lost and near-collapse state, but his expression remained unwavering. Crossing his mind was Vid’s directive before their parting—

”Vine, since you are with Abigail, I have something to entrust to you.”

The young man’s voice was not loud, as steady as ever.

Braun immediately put away his smile, listening intently.

”Within the Scourers’ organization, there exists a very special and dangerous wizard.”

Vid retrieved the Magic Congress’s interrogation files on Scourers’ members—these were copies shared by Kingsley.

The Magic Congress had no intention of keeping secrets for the Scourers; they openly invited British Aurors to participate in interrogations as an account for the previous hijacking incident.

Vid’s gaze landed on the top of the document, at a file where a photo should have been, yet it was completely blank.

”This wizard does not directly participate in combat missions but is responsible for one thing— erasing and modifying the memories of Scourers’ members.”

”Stern’s testimony mentioned this person; his codename is Dream Weaver, but no one knows his real name.”

”Stern said he had no need to alter his memories, so he never went to see the person voluntarily; he only knew the person should be in the Appalachian Mountains in Pennsylvania—perhaps he feared his memories might unknowingly be altered.”

”And other members, even if tampered with, were also completely unaware of it. After the magic ends, they even forget they met that person.”

”It was only through the Magic Congress’s memory extraction on some Scourers’ officials that they discovered unnatural traces in their memories.”

Vid looked at Braun with a serious tone:

”This person is the technical core for the Scourers to control its members, create fanaticism, and cover core secrets—a true culprit among them.”

”However, no one has seen him during either Thorne’s leadership or before and after Bloren’s escape.”

Braun understood Vid’s concern and spoke in a deep voice:

”Neither Thorne nor Bloren really matter... As long as that wizard is there, he can create a new Scourers organization at any time and make everyone loyal.”

Vid nodded and said, ”Exactly. And his Memory Magic is exceedingly brilliant—just like Lockhart’s Forgetfulness Spell. Maybe he specializes only in this magic but has perfected it to an extraordinary level.”

Outstanding wizards in the Magic World are generally proficient in spells like Obliviate and Confundus Charm, which directly or indirectly affect memory.

However, most wizards can only affect memories for short periods.

And altering memory is a high-level technique, even skilled wizards like Slughorn can’t extensively or long-term modify someone’s memories;

Modified segments always have a veil of mist, making it easy for people to sense something amiss.

But the wizard in Scourers is different; he can make people firmly believe in false memories, Vid suspected even Dumbledore couldn’t achieve that.

After pausing, Vid said, ”So Vine, your task is to find him.”

”And among the Scourers, besides Bloren, Abigail is the most likely to know that guy’s location.”

”According to Stern, Abigail has had her memory modified at least four times. Even if the earlier times she had little recollection, the most recent one involved tampering with her memories during her tenure at Hogwarts.”

”By then, she was no longer an anonymous nobody, and her experiences at Hogwarts couldn’t be completely concealed. Those people couldn’t modify everyone’s memories.”

”So Bloren had to give her an explanation...” Braun interjected, ”To let her know she’s lost a piece of memory, but it was for her own good, and might even allow her a brief encounter with the memory-modifying wizard.”

Vid gave a faint smile and said, ”Thus, if you want her to willingly cooperate, you need at least that chance to find him. To avoid you succumbing when you encounter that person, forgetting who you are...”

Vid raised his palm, placing it on Braun’s forehead, saying, ”I’ll set a ’protection shield’ on you, which can protect you three times against the influence of Memory Magic.”

”Remember, a quick battle is essential!”

...

Braun watched as Abigail stumbled a step, her back hitting the cold wall.

She lifted her head, her eyes were broken and hollow, her voice as soft as sleep-talking:

”Then who... who am I... what can I still trust...”

Braun watched her, offering no comfort, no urging, and only after a long while did he calmly speak:

”If you want to know the answer, you have to first retrieve what was taken.”

”Retrieve...”

Abigail gazed at him, dazed, her chaotic breathing gradually steadied. That scattered gaze, like being pulled and gathered by an invisible force.

She trembled lightly, her voice fractured and through gritted teeth, she said: ”Dream Weaver!”
