This Doctor Is Too Wealthy

”Xiao Heng? When did you come back?” Wang Zhenzhen, arriving for work in the morning, was pleasantly surprised to see Du Heng.

”Good morning, Wang.” Du Heng responded with a smile. ”I came back yesterday, but you all had already left work, so we didn’t meet.”

”It’s good you’re back. Let’s have lunch together. Gong wants to thank you properly.”

”Is Gong okay now?”

”Yes, he’s recovering quite well.”

”That’s something only you would know, Wang.”

Wang Zhenzhen laughed and playfully hit Du Heng. ”You’re just bluffing. Let’s see if you still dare when you see Gong at noon.”

”Hahaha, I wouldn’t dare.”

”Alright, see you at lunch then.”

”Okay, I’m actually on my way to see the Dean now.”

The two parted ways, and Du Heng headed to the third floor. Coincidentally, he bumped into Zhang Jinlian at the staircase again.

However, Zhang Jinlian appeared much more subdued today, lacking the flamboyance she had a week ago, looking rather listless.

There wasn’t much goodwill between them; in fact, there was some hostility.

So, they pretended not to see each other and walked right past.

After Zhang Jinlian passed, she muttered softly, possibly on purpose, ”Idiot.”

Idiot? Heh.

Just wait until I complete my 1,000 tasks and get my 50,000 yuan monthly salary. Then we’ll see who the real idiot is!

Du Heng didn’t dwell on it. He snorted, tilted his nose up, and strode confidently up the stairs.

This cold snort, however, infuriated Zhang Jinlian.

She turned, intending to stir up trouble, but saw Du Heng had already rounded the corner to the second floor.

”You’re lucky you ran fast.”

Zhang Jinlian returned to her office, fuming.

”Dean, this personnel file contains the important cases I’ve screened over the past two days. Please take a look.”

Du Heng handed a personnel file to Li Qingde.

In his five years of work, although his medical skills hadn’t improved much, he had thoroughly learned how to get things done.

When it came to fieldwork like this, it was best to present any achievements clearly for the leader to see.

Li Qingde looked at the personnel file in his hand with a delighted expression on his face.

One suspected cancer case and one case of coronary artery occlusion.

If Du Heng’s suspicions were correct, not only would Du Heng receive credit, but Li Qingde would also benefit.

This was direct proof of his effective leadership.

There’s a fundamental difference between a Health Clinic and a Grade 3A hospital. The main function of a Grade 3A hospital is to treat diseases. In contrast, the primary focus of a Health Clinic is disease prevention, healthcare promotion, health knowledge dissemination, and early intervention in major illnesses.

”Xiao Du, are you sure about these two patients?”

”I’m ninety percent sure. I asked Doctor Zuo to inform their families last night. They should have taken the patients for further tests today.”

”That’s good. I’ll have Song follow up on this thoroughly.”

As for why they both used Western medicine terminology, the reason was simple. Leaders often couldn’t understand traditional Chinese medicine terms, nor did they grasp their potential severity. Western medicine terms, however, were different. They were widely understood, allowing anyone to quickly gauge if a condition was serious or life-threatening.

If you want to gain merit, you have to consider the leader’s perspective. If you present them with something they can’t understand and whose dangers they don’t recognize, how will they know to reward you?

”Xiao Du, you did a great job.” Li Qingde spoke in a righteous tone. ”Our Health Clinic is the first-tier healthcare institution in our country. Our mission is to ensure the health of ordinary people, detect diseases early, and eradicate them. It’s our responsibility as medical staff to help people live healthy and happy lives, free from unnecessary pain and financial loss.”

If Du Heng hadn’t spent five years with this old guy, he’d almost believe the man had a halo emitting from the back of his head.

Li Qingde looked at the records at the back of the personnel file. ”Hmm... there’s also a case of hemiplegia and one of hysteria. Are you confident in curing these two?”

”Yes.” Du Heng’s answer was firm; he had great confidence in the house he had prescribed. ”For the hemiplegia patient’s recovery, the key is whether the nursing care can keep up. Otherwise, relying solely on medicine won’t solve the problem. I’ve also urged Doctor Zuo to pay close attention. And this patient is Doctor Zuo’s Uncle, so I believe he’ll take it seriously.”

After taking a breath, he continued, ”The hysteria case is actually quite simple. The patient didn’t do well in the college entrance examination last year and suffered a psychological blow. Their family is financially troubled. Another reason is that they felt ashamed and didn’t want to deal with it, so the situation was allowed to drag on. However, I prescribed her medication; as long as she takes them on time and avoids further psychological blows, she should recover to normal in two weeks.”

”Good. Confidence is a great thing. I’ll have Song pay close attention to these two cases as well. If their conditions improve, it will be a great accomplishment for you. I’ll report your achievements and contributions to the higher-ups then. Keep up the good work.”

”Thank you, Dean.” Du Heng responded modestly. ”Dean, there’s something else I need to ask you about.”

Li Qingde was pleased. He thought that if Du Heng’s four reported special cases were confirmed, Du Heng’s achievements and fame would surely rise, and he would benefit by association. When it was time to rotate the Dean position around May or June, he could choose a township he liked and become the Dean of its Health Clinic.

Although all this needed time for verification, he was willing to believe it was true.

Elated, his words became more effusive, ”Just tell me what you need. As long as it doesn’t violate any principles, I’ll make it happen for you.”

”It’s like this: Xiao Wu and I will be going into the villages on Monday, so we might not be able to attend the regular meeting at our workplace. We need to ask for leave.”

”Is that all? I thought it was something serious. Don’t worry about the meeting; just focus on your work.”

”There’s one more thing. Could we possibly find someone to help us enter the disease records into the computer? Xiao Wu and I are out every day, and coming back to input records is very time-consuming.”

Li Qingde thought for a moment. ”That can also be arranged. I recently heard that several new graduates were sent from the district and still don’t have workplaces for their internships. I’ll request one to come over and help you input the disease records. How does that sound?”

”Thank you, Dean. That would be a great help.”

After some more pleasantries, Du Heng finally left the office.

Closing the door, he let out a long sigh. Working in a technical unit isn’t just about technical skills; you also have to know how to ’manage things.’ If the leader isn’t happy, they’ll make you suffer.

For instance, if Li Qingde ordered me to go to the upper village to train village doctors, would I go or not? In the past, I wasn’t assertive enough, and Zhang Jinlian was so shrewish and aggressive that she wasn’t dealt with. Now, once I finish this assignment, it would be surprising if Li Qingde didn’t sort her out before his transfer.

Du Heng hummed a tune as he returned to his office. On the second floor, he encountered Li Nating, who simply turned her head and ”humph”-ed, ignoring him completely.

Humph all she wants, just hope she doesn’t cough up phlegm doing it.

Du Heng had no interest in Li Nating, so her huffing didn’t bother him.

When he reached the office, the three patients scheduled for a re-examination were already there.

First, he saw the Dean’s relative, the facial paralysis patient.

”If you don’t look too closely, it’s hardly noticeable now. However, the lower jaw is still a little crooked and slightly misaligned with the upper jaw. But there isn’t much more to be done; it just needs to recover slowly. This takes time, so don’t rush. Continue taking your medicine, and don’t stop the massage.”

”Alright, thank you, Doctor Du.”

”Go get your medicine. I’ve changed a few of the Medicine Ingredients. After you finish this course of medicine, you can stop. If there’s no change, you don’t need to come back for another follow-up.”

”Goodbye, Doctor Du.”

The facial paralysis patient left happily. Next was Fan Yuxiang.

Fan Yuxiang had come alone again today, but he looked much better than he had on Monday.

After an examination, Du Heng saw that he was improving, so there were no major issues. He adjusted a few Medicine Ingredients in the prescription. ”Go get your medicine. Pay attention to the precautions I mentioned. Come back for a follow-up next month.”

Once Fan Yuxiang left, only the young mother holding her baby remained. While Du Heng examined the child, he asked, ”Where’s your mother-in-law?”

”She’s taking care of my father-in-law.”

”Mm, the child is dressed much better today. You must be careful in the future. A child this young can’t get too cold, but also mustn’t get too hot.”

”I understand, Doctor Du. Does he need more medicine?”

Du Heng shook his head. ”No, no more medicine is needed. No medicine at all.”

With Du Heng’s firm reassurance, the baby’s mother finally relaxed and happily carried her child home.

Once these patients had gone, Du Heng found himself with some free time. He glanced at the long-suffering Wu Buwei, who was diligently inputting disease records with his head down, and chuckled before joining in.

I have to help with this. If Wu Buwei is left to input all these records alone, he might not even be done by tomorrow.
