217: Bonus Chapter 5: Taking Root”Where should it land?”

This was the first ultimate question Ye Nanxing had to face after the Fire Seed returned to humanity.

She knew—the fire could no longer just float within her spatial imprint; that was the embryo of civilization, not its final resting place.

It had to be sown; it had to take root.

On the holographic remnant map, less than two percent of the green zones remained.

The oceans were turning red, the mountains were becoming magnetized, and the Black Snow Forest continued to expand...

These landscapes that once symbolized ”nature” had now all become forbidden zones for life.

The air in front of the large screen seemed to be drained away, and everyone fell silent.

There wasn’t a single place that looked ”worthy” of sowing the seeds of civilization.

Ye Nanxing stood before the holographic projection, her silhouette elongated by the pale light.

She remained motionless, but her gaze was rapidly calculating every coordinate point.

”The wind force here is too strong; the structures for the initial phase of civilization sowing cannot take shape.”

”There are remnants of old rift pollution underground here; the Fire Seed would be swallowed up upon contact.”

”This area... I previously attempted to implant reconstruction data, but it resulted in reverse pollution feedback.”

Her voice was calm, stripping away the skin of hope layer by layer, reaching straight to the cruel bone.

Finally, she stopped.

Her fingertip landed on a strange yet unfamiliar area: Beiluo Prefecture · Southern Frontier Fault Plain.

The map popped up in 3D; it was an isolated region detached from the main continent’s ecological network.

—It had been ”thrown out” of the world’s rule boundaries by a spacetime fault during the Cataclysm;

—No records of alien species invasion, no magnetic field shifts, no traces of corrosion layers;

—The landscape was enclosed, surrounded by six wind belts, the terrain shaped like a palm, with a ”rift-type sky opening” at the center.

It was as if this was a patch of land forgotten by the world.

Ye Nanxing closed her eyes and took a deep breath.

At that moment, a sentence Chu Yunting had once said surfaced in her mind:

”The way you choose a location is different from everyone else.”

”You don’t pick the strongest land; you pick... the land that most wants to be lit up.”

She opened her eyes and said slowly:

”This is not the best land.”

”Resources are scarce, the location is remote, there is no shelter, and no miracles.”

”But it is the only place ’that hasn’t been noticed by any existence’.”

”We... will sow the seeds here.”

As her voice faded, the silence receded like the tide.

Everyone looked at her.

Some nodded gently;

Others had heavy expressions and said nothing;

Flame Born chuckled but didn’t speak; he simply lowered his head and pressed a fragment of the Fire Core against his chest.

Lin Sui gripped the ecological monitoring board beside her, her fingertips turning white from the pressure.

Zhou Cheng stood straight, his voice low but firm:

”Then you light the fire.”

”We will dig the earth.”

This was not a simple ”landing.”

It was a civilization destined for possible failure, choosing to plant its first flag in the loneliest, most unsupported place.

The Fire Seed’s reaction was perfectly normal, but Flame Born was becoming increasingly strange.

His body swung between cold and hot, his emotions fluctuated, at times silent, at times whispering.

Lin Sui had attempted to probe his consciousness fluctuations, but ended up nearly having her spiritual consciousness burned in return.

In the end, Ye Nanxing spoke with him personally.

In front of the campsite fire, he sat quietly, the fire beside him seemingly sleeping as well.

She sat beside him and asked:

”Are you... going to leave?”

Flame Born did not deny it.

He raised his eyes, revealing that scorching yet sorrowful smile:

”What little I have left isn’t enough to continue being human.”

”I am now just—a matchstick.”

”Once it’s lit this time, it will go out.”

Ye Nanxing did not speak. She simply took his hand.

Just as he had done that day when he carried the burden of the collapsing civilization Fire Core for her.

The convoy entered the boundary of the Beiluo Prefecture Fault Plain, the sky suddenly becoming clear, the wind dust-free, and the air even carried the scent of grass.

The surface was an expanse of silver-gray rock, with a rift-like plateau in the center, shaped like a palm, with five fingers pointing to the sky.

She stood upon it, opening her palm, and the spiritual light of the Fire Seed appeared.

At this moment—it was not her space that moved.

It was the entire ley line responding to her.

She closed her eyes, completely merging her consciousness with the Fire Seed, and slowly implanted it into this soil.

That ball of fire light sank quietly into the ground.

At first, there was no sound.

But the next second, the earth trembled gently.

Everyone held their breath.

Threads of pale golden patterns spread out across the ground, like the nerves of the earth’s core waking up, slowly crawling outward.

Following that came a—

A sprouting grass seedling emitting a soft light,

Breaking through the soil from a crack in the center of the rift palm.

It was thin and long, crystalline like jade, with only one leaf, yet it emitted a faint ”hum” in the wind.

A strange light appeared in Ye Nanxing’s eyes.

Shen Qingyan said excitedly:

”It is—responding to us.”

”This is not a plant, this is a Civilization Perception Grass!”

”The Fire Seed has begun its first ’ecological feedback’!”

That night, the wind was no longer cold.

In the first minute after the Fire Seed landed, the earth returned to silence.

However, just after that slightly glowing ”Civilization Perception Grass” broke through the soil,

A nearly imperceptible transparent arc of light quietly spread slowly from beneath Ye Nanxing’s feet.

Like breathing, like the tide.

A small barrier just like that grew out upon this fault plain.

At first, it was only a few meters.

But as the Fire Seed pulsed, the surface temperature began to stabilize, the magnetic field gradually reconverged, and for the first time, the air held the scent of ”green grass not yet grown.”

The barrier was not a protective shield, not a wall of power.

It was an ecological buffer zone about to be reborn.

A—civilization greenhouse that had not yet bloomed.

Ye Nanxing stood quietly before the Perception Grass.

The flow of spiritual energy resonated with her breathing; she could feel the Fire Seed taking root, the earth responding, but—it was still very weak and needed time.

Just like true spring—it never arrives overnight.

Meanwhile, responses from afar followed:

The underground broadcast of Tianlang Mountain suddenly restarted; although the signal was weak, it clearly repeated two words:

”...Fire, return...”

The long-obsolete telegraph machine at the Orchid Rock base flashed a string of strange rhythms,

Shen Qingyan had sharp eyes and recognized it at a glance: it was the ”ecological access signal” transmitted by the Fire Seed’s synchronized wavelength.

Deep in the far-off ice fields, six children curled up beside an old-fashioned detector

Simultaneously looked up, gazing at a streak of white light in the night sky.

They could no longer speak complete sentences, but they reached out their hands toward that light in tacit understanding.

The Fire Seed has landed.

Humanity is no longer just wanderers fleeing for their lives.

But—pioneers about to replant the future.
