After Surviving the Apocalypse, I Built a City in Another World

”AHHHHHHGHH!” Kalbo bellowed, livid due to the pain and the loss of another important personnel.

Another trebuchet was rendered useless under his watch. How could he sit still?

Further, this slowed down the trebuchet’s movement as well. If Zaol was given a chance, he could actually focus on damaging the expensive weapon, and that was something that not even several lives could exchange for!

Kalbo dragged himself to continue fighting. Zaol, a little injured, continued with his relentless attacks, and he even used the terrain features against the enemy.

After pushing a trebuchet further into their ’territory’, the allies found inspiration in it. Soon, the other two trebuchets were slowly heading to other areas, ones that had the loose sentries intact and ready to kill.

Since the attacks were intense and continuous, no one could really notice this happening. If there were, they were not in this area. For example, there was Besston, but right now, he was busy as the only area that actually managed to take down the walls.

Zaol and Kalbo were not privy to what was happening in other areas, and they were busy with their own fights. Kalbo’s injuries got deeper and more numerous, while Zaol was easing into his own pace.

Kalbo could sense this, and instead of gathering his wits, like he normally would, he ended up going berserk.

Zaol defended himself well and, after a well-timed use of attack, pushed the bastard back, finally taking down the bastard’s defense equipment that had kept him alive for so long.

He raised his feet and kicked the other in a direction with all his might.

SLAM!

Kalbo screamed as he felt himself being impaled by a rock. However, Kalbo unfortunately wasn’t the type to be killed in a few shots, even if one hand was loosely hanging.

It was at this moment, when he was certain he was dying, that his mind cleared. ”I was saving this for later,” he said, throwing something directly at Zaol.

Rather, he threw several at once.

BANG!

BANG!

BANG!

It was another type of bomb. It was not an ignition type—since he was not a fire user, he wouldn’t be able to activate it if it were. It was the smaller kind that created smaller, annoying sparks. It could seriously harm a level 15, but definitely not a level 50.

These were relatively much easier and less expensive to make than the real bombs. It wasn’t very valuable in a city, but it could damage the majority of the enemy population, whose average level was not high. Who’d have thought he wouldn’t even be able to use it?

But his life was more important!

BANG!

BANG!

BOOM!

He knew that it was unlikely to kill Zaol, even if he did rain down a dozen. However, Kalbo ignited it foremost as a distraction.

Gritting his teeth, Kalbo jumped backwards to escape from the man’s blade. However, he did not expect Zaol to suddenly turn his weapon, and the halberd’s hook captured his stomach, creating a deeper gash in him.

”AHHH!”

Zaol dragged him towards him, and then he didn’t have a chance to run anymore.

Zaol then took this chance to help the others deal with the powerhouses too, pushing them to the sentry areas for assistance, along with the other fighters.

Zaol then pushed the trebuchets, making sure they were in the middle of the sentried areas, so the enemies would have trouble regaining control.

Similarly, the Alterrans also jumped back, staring at the forces on the other side. Now, they were in a standstill.

They also had the option of attacking it continuously to destroy the now unmanned trebuchets, but it would take too much energy and time, and they needed all of that against the tens of thousands of enemies in this area alone.

Not to mention, he was sure Alterra would appreciate these added to their armory.

For now, this area was in a standstill, neither side making big moves.

There were several tens of thousands of enemies in this section alone, so Zaol and the others couldn’t leave. However, at the very least, this area didn’t have to worry about a physical breach any time soon.

...

Two of the few trebuchet zones had now been neutralized.

Meanwhile, the ’surviving’ trebuchets were slowly going closer, as if trying to target inside the walls now. They did keep a certain distance, though, since this weapon was most useful for creating breaches. Not to mention, most of the projectiles were created on the other side of the arrays, with Earth users continuously creating giant rocks and rolling them to their weapons.

The endless onslaught, especially since there were physical breaches that opened up, felt more and more dangerous as time passed. More and more enemies had entered the walls now, and those trebuchets made sure that many of the powerhouses were occupied.

”I can’t imagine what would happen if we were using a Level 5 wall,” one of the guards said as he shot arrow after arrow down the human mob below them. The previous walls would’ve given way within a few shots of this weapon, wouldn’t they?

Just thinking about it sent shivers down their spines.

Anyway, now that the other areas were being handled, and several trebuchet areas had been neutralized, more and more people headed here to greet the ’leaks’.

BANG!

Two powerhouses used their abilities, using a good portion of their mana to catch a projectile, ideally throwing it back at the enemies. However, after a few times of doing this, one could see the person’s hands forming blisters, as if they had been burned.

This was one of the effects of directly handling projectiles from such a powerful dwarven weapon. The longer this fight lasted, the more disadvantaged they would be.

It was here that a sound resounded. It was like a horn, but it sent out a specific sound that only Alterrans recognized. Those in the direct battlefield breathed out in relief. ”Ah, finally!”

Sure enough, a few hot air balloons appeared, heading straight outside the walls.
