___

For a while, more and more people gathered around this park. Fufi, Snow, and the other puppies were not neglected, and many people cooed and hugged them.

However, it was still Boop, the giant dog, who got most of the attention. Of course, part of this was because he was bigger and could therefore afford to be patted by a lot of people at a time.

For the fluff-hungry people who had always complained that there were not enough of the fluffy mascots going around, this was a wish come true!

There were many people literally climbing over Boop’s fluff, using their whole bodies and all their limbs to pat him.

Judging by how wildly his tail was wagging, it was clear he was loving all the attention.

This was what Prague, a new visitor, saw.

It was an aborigine with the appearance of a late-20-year old, with curly white-ish hair and a buff physique.

He was touring the interesting town on his own, checking if Tronie’s letters were true with his own eyes. He was expecting them to be exaggerations, and he was surprised to find out it was even better than he thought.

He was currently eating cheese-flavored popcorn when he was walking around and heard the commotion. When he arrived, he saw people happily getting harassed by a big monster in the middle of the park?

Sure, the thing was cute, but who would play under its large paws, or willingly put their upper bodies inside its mouth? Someone happily served as a chew toy, too...

These people are weird...

His thoughts were interrupted when a voice from the side called out to him.

”PRAGUEEEE!” a voice from the side caught his attention, and he turned, seeing it was his old friend.

”OI, TRONIEEE!”1

The two clasped each other’s arms in greeting, though Prague was quick to balance the popcorn bucket. He couldn’t waste a single bite!

”When did you get here?” Tronie asked. This guy didn’t tell him he was here at all! It was just that he put a notice in the monitoring team (for a few silver a week per name) and they would tell him if certain people appeared in the territory.

He had his own aether letter now, and they had his tool’s signature, so he was quickly notified, at least until he entered the scope of the letters. He was away gathering materials somewhere up north a couple of hours ago, so he only received the notification when he arrived.

”Just today,” he said.

”I see,” Tronie said. ”Are you planning on just vacationing or staying?”

”We’ll see,” Prague answered vaguely, and this meant he was open to staying if the conditions permitted it.

Tronie smiled. ”Well, no rush, just enjoy your stay.”

He was pretty sure his friend would stay, but he could get stubborn and didn’t want him to head out just to prove him wrong.

After going around for a couple more minutes (also after looking at the rumbunctiousness caused by the large battle pet), Tronie took Prague to his house.

As one of the first aborigine hires of Alterra, he got a lot of good deals and was among the first to take advantage of various benefits. Not to mention his occupation was Materials Finder, and the contribution points he had amassed over the past year were no joke.

He was one of the people sent out on missions to consolidate the region (he volunteered for it), and in his travels, he had managed to recover a few materials that would’ve been otherwise ignored by the nearby territories.

Some examples were certain stones and minerals (he honestly didn’t really have the means or brains to study them thoroughly), which were apparently materials needed to create those portable laboratories and more compact computers that the Terrans were developing.

He also helped territories that had found or had access to these materials trade with Alterra, getting Alterra to gather them in bulk, while also strengthening the villages that harvested them.

This ultimately helped strengthen the region even more, so the contribution points were naturally not low.

Anyway, next to the Golds and scientists, he was probably among the contribution point-rich hires. With that, he managed to reserve a single detached unit of his own in the newly constructed areas.

The new walls had three gates. The Southwest Avenue was just extended further, except that it had the Rotunda midway.

Similarly, the East Avenue was also extended. And then there was a new gate in the Northwest part just beyond the mountainous areas, designed to welcome their partners up north.

The new area was too large, and the detour was a bit annoying if only two gates were maintained. Anyway, the new Northwest gate happened to be where Prague passed through.

This meant he entered into a wide, undeveloped area with trees, excessively wide roads, and the occasional forager. He could only be shocked by the development in the inner wall.

Tronie sent paintings before, but he thought they were embellished, and when he entered, he even thought it was a prank. Then he just went around at his own pace and found many interesting things. Regardless of whether he was staying there, he knew he’d be there for a few weeks at least.

”Are you on vacation or in a gap?” Tronie asked, serving his friend a cup of hot cocoa.

”In a Gap.”

This was a terminology among people who worked through the Chancery. Vacation meant that they would eventually return to a previous employer, while the Gap was the time between quitting an old employer and then waiting to be hired by a new one.

It was just that, technically speaking, since Prague wasn’t hanging around in the chancery for a new client (and therefore could not be summoned through the Centers’ arrays), this was technically a vacation as well.

”What is this?” Prague asked, looking at the warm brown liquid in a cup. It had an earthy smell, and it almost felt like it was liquid soil.

Prague had been going around, but he hadn’t been everywhere yet, including the streets with cafes. Even if he did pass by, the lines had intimidated him, just putting the visit off for a while.

”It’s a new drink, exclusive in Alterra for now,” Tronie smiled slyly. ”Be careful when drinking, it’s a bit hot.”

Prague looked at him suspiciously and looked at the drink. A bit of heat wouldn’t hurt a person of his level, but he did blow it a bit to cool it down further.

After a moment, he finally placed the rim over his lips to taste.

Sip

And this was how Prague, the aborigine chancery-hopping-expert, became one of the biggest individual consumers of hot cocoa.
