After Surviving the Apocalypse, I Built a City in Another World

As soon as everything was over, the couple immediately sent a report back to Alterra via the Post Office.

Of course, they sent the letter to Alterra in code, and it even had a few detours.

All supervisory and above positions were taught these codes under oath, which was a mix of Xeno and Terran language, but with differing meanings only they knew.

It was extremely difficult to decipher, even if code experts were to find them.

This was created primarily with the help of trusted linguistic experts (also under oath) like Renya. To create a completely undecipherable code with two languages, they created unique conversion rules.

For instance, the usage of Terran nouns as Xenoan verbs. They also incorporated some phonetic substitutions, and so on.

The spies would then send it to the team stationed in Ferrol, who will send it to Alterra. It was a bit cumbersome, but it was also for their own safety. Most of the time, they could send directly to Alterra but this mission was a bit risky, and the name ’Alterra’ was probably in the territory’s watchlist, so they decided to play it safe.

The letter got to Alterra about half a day later, when Althea was lounging around with her family after working hours. The babies were being as cute as ever, playing around in their toy area, and then asking for smooches every so often when they needed ’energy’.

”Chup, chup! Mummy!” The babies asked and it made everyone chuckle. Of course, Althea hugged her babies to give them their much-deserved smooches.

Chu~!

Garan was also there, and the children also went to him, possibly as an afterthought.

Eagle arrived to see this scene, with the letter from Rowan in his hand. He was stationed in the Guard Station and all ’spy’ letters would end up in this location until a separate building for the Intelligence Department was erected.

They were also usually combed through and summarized before it reached them. After all, they had so many channels now, and who had the time to read everything? Receiving the raw letter was rare, and also indicated its importance and urgency.

Althea and Garan looked at each other to take a look, and they immediately called for a meeting right after, calling in the various personnel relevant to the discussions.

The main topic was the fact that Voumi Town was holding auctions of Elementalists!

Those bastards!

A hundred had been sold since then, and he had announced that ten to fifty Elementalists would be sold every month after that.

They were still investigating the names of the 100 people, but it was implied they were sold in faraway territories and it’d be too difficult to get them back.

Bang!

”Those bastards!” Sammy yelled, tapping the table in front of him. ”Is he stupid? Doesn’t he know more people would just attack this region and get the slaves for themselves?”

They knew this was inevitable and they had been controlling things from their side, at least within their capability. They had made sure to have good relations with other territories that came here for partnership, but also implied what would happen if they dared to enslave their people.

After all these months, Alterra had at least that much prestige to be able to do so.

However, how much could that really protect them? Alterra was in no way the strongest Town, nor were its partners.

Especially now, with territories like Voumi practically spreading the news out! Even if Voumi only invited those from far away, who was to say their region wouldn’t attract greedier hearts?

And with Voumi doing this, it was obvious that they’d want more and more slaves. In time, they’d cross paths again.

They had always been wary about Voumi Town. It was at the same level as they were, so a war with them was extremely likely.

Wars were rare between towns, perhaps only once or twice a year, but Alterra was making too many waves to think they’d face the same level of leniency.

Now, there was even another Town mentioned.

”What do we know about Valov so far?”

Valov... was directly connected to Guia Village, and it was safe to assume that it was their real master, or perhaps related to it. They had been sending people to the Iron Mountains for nearly a year, and it was only a matter of time before they made bigger moves.

”Valov was a Level 2 Town so we do not have to worry about a direct war with them yet. However, its power was wide for its rank and could influence a lot of things.”

This was Loki, who had brought his records related to the territory.

”How far is it from us?”

”It’s located further West, a few thousand kilometers from here,” he said. ”By a fast beast car, it is traversable in four to five days.” It was around the same distance as Bleulle, which was not closeby, but also not incomprehensibly far away.

”What else do we know about it?” she asked, and Loki presented everything they had gathered so far.

Along with their own internal intelligence network, their team had also been collecting data from all over, buying off maps from mercenaries and caravans, and gathering information from them.

Anyway, they had a lot of gold and leverage and knowledge was usually worth the cost. A lot of the information they received were also paid for in contribution points, which was a currency they could assign arbitrary values to.

So far, there was a room filled with books with information about other territories, at least in the region.

They also had very smart people piecing the data together, so that even unrelated data could mean something.

When the computer technology was polished and developed more, they could input some so they could find patterns much more easily. For now, they didn’t have such technology, but they fortunately did have big brains.

In time, Alterra’s information network would become unmatched—it was only a matter of time.
