Beast Taming Clan: I Have a Jade Book

Chapter 505: Chapter 424: Ascension, Chang Sheng, Clan Safety, Following the Heart

This year’s autumn equinox in White Cloud Town is more desolate than ever before.

The heavy frost quickly covered the mountains, draping the entire wilderness in a white cloak.

On the streets, there are few pedestrians, each moving quickly like shadows.

A figure walks slowly down the street, as if his body is frozen by the heavy frost.

He looks at the unfamiliar surroundings, feeling everything unfamiliar.

This person is none other than Ye Jingcheng, who came down from Lingyun Peak.

Before leaving Lingyun Peak, he upgraded the spirit vein in the grotto heaven and prepared the spiritual food for the spirit beast, which delayed him until now.

He did not fly all the way, instead, he walked from Lingyun Peak to White Cloud Town.

He just wanted to see the places ravaged by the Demon Beast from a mortal’s perspective.

In his memory, this street should be bustling at this time.

The lanterns of the restaurants would flutter in the wind, and the waiters would enthusiastically bow at the door, continuously hawking.

The bun shop at the corner could let the cooking smoke blow far, and there were children weaving in and out among the adults, playing.

The old man selling sugar figurines would specifically take a rattle drum, shaking it near the children’s ears.

Perhaps the former residents of White Cloud Town moved away, or perhaps the beast tide made the town silent.

Every face is filled with wear and tear, and their eyes are filled with too much fatigue.

Ye Jingcheng walked every corner of the town, and when he saw the tall yard, the stone lions at the entrance were changed, the lanterns under the cyan tiles were also replaced with deeper red ones, and even the couplets on the door were new.

Without using divine sense, he could no longer see inside the yard, but he could see that the old tree in front of the old town chief’s rattan chair was also gone.

He knew in his heart that this was no longer the old town chief’s family.

If he went in, he wouldn’t see a familiar face.

Yet he still stood in front of the yard for a long time, waiting until noon when the sun came out, the mountain fog dissipated, the frost sense slowly disappeared, and the chirping of birds increased in the sky.

He sighed long; after just a few years, the feeling of things remaining but people gone pervaded every corner of the town.

His steps were once again resumed.

Finally, he stopped in front of the Immortal Hall.

He saw the Immortal Hall still standing tall and stately as before, with its tall buildings and secluded halls.

He walked in once more.

He started taking out tools and began making sugar figurines.

He didn’t use magic, relying only on his dexterity, setting up a fire and taking out a large black pot.

He began to boil brown sugar inside the Immortal Hall.

Making sugar figurines on the spot, unlike immortal pills and spiritual cuisine, Ye Jingcheng was more cautious making ordinary sugar figurines, fearing he would overcook them or not cook them well enough.

Once done, he took out a scarecrow and inserted the sugar figurines one by one on it.

Today, there were no Immortals in the Immortal Hall, only the sugar figurine maker.

After Ye Jingcheng finished everything, he picked up a rattle drum and, tracing the shadows of memory, began shaking the rattle drum.

While shaking it, he shouted.

“Sugar figurines, fresh sugar figurines!”

His voice was still full of penetration power, though the town was too empty and few people came out.

But he kept shouting and shaking.

Soon, a few children finally ran out from the yard.

“Be careful, there are Demon Beasts outside, don’t go out at will!” The warnings from their mothers were heard from behind the children.

Seeing this, Ye Jingcheng couldn’t help but sigh.

He said no more, for today’s situation was caused by the Ye Family.

These mortals had migrated from the Buqing Mountain side, and when they saw the empty White Cloud Town, they naturally thought the town had been blood-washed by the beast tide.

“Grandpa, how much for a string of sugar figurines?”

“One penny for a string, three strings for two pennies.” Ye Jingcheng currently looked like an old man, he tried to smile, squeezing his wrinkles together to seem kinder.

“Mother, these sugar figurines are even cheaper than many years ago!” The child jumped about joyfully.

He no longer remembered which was his former town, nor when he last saw sugar figurines on the street.

Seeing the child’s smile reappear, Ye Jingcheng’s face beamed more brightly.

The sugar figurines sold extremely well.

From then on, Ye Jingcheng settled in front of the Immortal Hall, selling sugar figurines every day.

The sunlight seemed to gradually increase, or perhaps because of Ye Jingcheng’s booming business, more people started hawking and setting up stalls.

Some sold sugar candies, some sold chestnuts, and steam added warmth, as the bustling atmosphere gradually returned to White Cloud Town.

The children’s playful giggles returned to the town.

Their innocent laughter seemed to even dissolve the morning frost sense.

The restaurant beside the street quietly opened as well, a rich aroma of wine enticing the early and late travelers.

On this day, in front of the Immortal Hall, Ye Jingcheng had already sold out early.

A group of children clustered around Ye Jingcheng, wanting to hear his stories.

They also wanted to know why the hall was called the Immortal Hall.

“Because Immortals lived in the hall!” Ye Jingcheng recalled what the old town chief had once told him, and readily replied.

“But why have we never seen one?”

“Yes, Grandpa Cheng, it’s clearly empty inside.”

“And only Grandpa Cheng lives there!” Some children started chattering excitedly, even teasingly calling him Old Man Cheng.

Ye Jingcheng wasn’t annoyed by this; instead, he chuckled and spoke:

“You’ll know in the future!”
