Villains Aren't Stepping Stones!

The moon hung high in the quiet sky, casting a cool, silvery glow over the manicured pathways, arched bridges, and tranquil lotus ponds of the Falling Blossom Villa.

The serene atmosphere of the sprawling estate stood in stark, peaceful contrast to the scorched, ash-filled ruins of Leaf Green City’s central district left in their wake.

As the heavy vermilion gates of the estate swung open with a smooth, resonant creak, Shen Haoran stepped across the threshold, flanked by Xu Xiansu, Huo Yue, Zhu Ziyan, and the Ten Crowns.

Waiting in the wide, marble-paved inner courtyard illuminated by gentle spiritual lanterns were Qian Yunxi, Ling Luochen, Xia Mengyao, Ning Xueli, and Luo Mingye.

Each of them had been monitoring the chaotic spiritual fluctuations rocking the horizon for the past hour, and the sight of Haoran walking in unscathed immediately dissolved the lingering tension in the air.

SWISH—!

Before anyone could even offer a formal greeting, a delicate silhouette blurred across the courtyard floor.

”Haoran!”

Ning Xueli moved like a sudden gust of winter wind, her eyes shimmering with genuine, heartfelt relief.

She threw her slender arms tightly around his waist, burying her face into his chest.

Her small hands gripped the fabric of his robes as if reassuring herself that he was truly standing there whole, alive, and entirely untouched by the apocalyptic tribulation that had shaken the world outside.

Shen Haoran chuckled softly, a warm and gentle smile breaking across his handsome features.

He brought his hand up to gently stroke her soft, short hair, letting his fingers run through the silky strands until her rapid heartbeat gradually slowed to a steady, calm rhythm against his ribs.

”I’m back, Xueli,” Haoran whispered softly, his voice full of natural, soothing warmth. ”Everything went smoothly on our side.”

Behind him, Huo Yue puffed her cheeks slightly, resting her hands on her hips with a mock pout, though a fond smile played at the corner of her lips.

Qian Yunxi smiled at him, ”Everything is fine on our side as well, young master. We didn’t even get to fight as Xueli annihilated all of them on her own.”

”I see. That’s good.” Haoran nodded.

Just then, Shen Ying suddenly raised a hand, ”Young master, can I sleep first? I’m way too tired after all that.”

Haoran turned towards her and nodded, ”Go on. And all of you as well, you deserve your rest.”

Shen Ying let out a yawn and nodded, before dragging her feet back to her room.

The rest of the Crowns hesitated for a moment, but they were indeed exhausted, so they respectfully bowed at Haoran and dispersed into their designated room to count their loses, adjust their spirits, and rest after the intense campaign.

Zhu Ziyan hesitated for a moment before leaving. She didn’t stop despite Huo Yue’s questioning looks.

Once they left, Xia Mengyao stepped forward with a composed, elegant posture, her blue eyes staring at him.

She bowed her head respectfully toward Haoran, though her lips curved into a proud, knowing smile.

”Welcome back, Young Master,” Xia Mengyao said, her clear voice breaking the courtyard’s silence. ”From the massive collapse of the western formations to the sudden shift in the city’s spiritual mandate, we felt the ripples all the way here. I believe the Botanist Faction has ceased to exist as a governing power, am I right?”

Ling Luochen chuckled softly, ”Ceased to exist is an understatement. That final sword slash cleaved a canyon a thousand miles long through the outer ridges. The entire mortal population and every merchant guild in Leaf Green City are practically trembling in their boots, waiting to see who holds the reins of the sky now.”

Luo Mingye chuckled, before staring straight at Haoran curiously, ”Young master, did you break through? Was that super big Spirit Avatar yours? No, it’s definitely yours. It looks like you after all.”

Haoran nodded, ”Yeah. I ought to thank that Mu Gang for making it possible.”

At that moment, Zhu Ziyan finally returned. She walked over gracefully, her refined aura radiating a quiet elegance as she offered Haoran a cup of warm, restorative spirit tea that she had prepared just now.

”Young master, please have a tea. This should help you out after that battle.”

Haoran took the warm teacup from Zhu Ziyan with a nod of appreciation, savoring the fragrant, soothing warmth of the brew as Ning Xueli finally loosened her tight embrace, stepping to his side while keeping her hand gently intertwined with his fingers.

”Let’s head inside,” Haoran said, gesturing toward the grand pavilion hall. ”Securing the city was merely the initial strike. Now comes the true work.”

The group nodded and moved together into the grand assembly hall of the Falling Blossom Villa.

The spacious chamber was adorned with rich sandalwood tables, high-backed master chairs, and an enormous, detailed map of Leaf Green City and its surrounding spiritual territories laid out across the central table.

Spiritual crystals embedded in the mahogany frame cast a detailed, three-dimensional holographic projection of the city’s geography, displaying every district, agricultural zone, spirit stone vein, defensive node, and trade artery.

Shen Haoran took his seat at the head of the long table, resting his forearm comfortably against the polished wood.

Huo Yue, Zhu Ziyan, Xu Xiansu, Qian Yunxi, Ling Luochen, Xia Mengyao, Ning Xueli, and Luo Mingye arranged themselves on either side of the table, their expressions shifting from casual reunion to sharp, calculated focus as they began to discuss their grand development plan.

”First and foremost,” Haoran began, tapping a long, elegant finger against the holographic map where a massive, glowing red fissure marked the newly cleaved abyss. ”The physical destruction caused by the battle must be addressed immediately. The central district and the subterranean cavern holding the primary spirit veins suffered heavy structural damage, or rather, they completely collapsed. We cannot allow the city’s commercial and defensive functions to remain paralyzed.”

Xu Xiansu leaned forward, pointing her slender finger at the glowing green energy lines running beneath the city map. ”From what I had observed earlier, the subterranean spirit veins were ruptured during the conflict, and while the raw energy is leaking, the source itself remains intact. Shen Bai and Shen Cai will be the core pillars for the reconstruction phase. Shen Bai has already rewritten the core formation runes, but he needs to establish an entirely new, reinforced boundary array, like the Nine-Palace Spatial Convergence Formation for example, to redirect the leaking spirit vein energy into a localized cultivation matrix rather than letting it bleed into the atmosphere.”

”And Shen Cai?” Ling Luochen asked, a slight chuckle in her voice. ”Is that mad artificer going to build another legion of metal titans to clear the rubble?”

Although they didn’t leave the villa, the battle were actually very visible, especially the spirit avatars.

So Shen Cai’s battle against the seven Spirit Avatars were also seen by them

”Precisely that,” Haoran replied with a slight smirk. ”Shen Cai’s technology is far more efficient than mortal labor or ordinary earth-element cultivators. He will deploy his heavy construction puppets to dredge the bottomless chasm, stabilize the canyon walls, and lay down refined dark-star iron foundation pillars. We will convert that thousand mile abyss from a catastrophic battlefield scar into an impenetrable natural moat and subterranean defensive trench guarding the eastern approach.”

Qian Yunxi nodded thoughtfully, pulling out a glowing jade ledger inscribed with logistical records. ”If the physical infrastructure can be stabilized within three days using Shen Cai’s puppets and Shen Bai’s formations, then the immediate priority must shift to political stabilization and economic restructuring. The Botanist Faction ruled Leaf Green City through a monopoly on rare spiritual herbs, medicinal refinement pills, and high-tax commerce. With Mu Gang, Advisor Liu, Elder Zhao, and General Chen dead, the secondary merchant guilds, alchemy associations, and mercenary leagues are currently in a state of blind panic.”

Xia Mengyao’s eyes narrowed with sharp, strategic acumen. ”We shouldn’t purge the smaller guilds. Instead, we should issue a unified decree under the Shen Clan’s name by sunrise. We will slash the extortionate commercial taxes that Mu Gang imposed by thirty percent, grant open licenses to independent alchemical pavilions, and guarantee physical protection to all merchant caravans entering our territory.”

”A classic carrot-and-stick approach,” Luo Mingye remarked, resting her chin on her steepled fingers. ”By lowering the taxes and opening the medicinal trade, we immediately win the loyalty of the common cultivators, merchants, and low-tier factions who were suffocating under Mu Gang’s heavy-handed rule. At the same time, the lingering presence of young master Haoran’s avatar and that thousand mile canyon will serve as a terrifying deterrent against any thoughts of rebellion.”

”What about the agricultural and spiritual herb sectors?” Ning Xueli asked softly, her clear purple eyes scanning the northern zones of the holographic map. ”The Botanist Faction held thousands of acres of Grade 5 to Grade 8 spiritual herb fields. Huo Yue already secured their Spirit Nurturing Flame, but the herb fields themselves need proper management so the soil doesn’t wither, especially after that weird technique that devoured the life force of nature.”

”That will fall under Shen Ying and Huo Yue’s jurisdiction,” Haoran stated decisively. ”Shen Ying’s mastery over alchemy and medicinal biology makes her the ideal candidate to oversee the revitalisation of the herb reserves. We will then have Huo Yue accelerate their growth using her new Heavenly Flames, so we can mass produce Grade 7 and Grade 8 medicinal herbs at a fraction of the traditional cost and time. We will turn Leaf Green City from a closed-off, corrupt botanical fiefdom into the premier alchemical and trade capital of the entire academy.”

”Leave it to me!” Huo Yue grinned.

Xu Xiansu smiled faintly, resting her cheek against her palm as she looked at Haoran. ”A grand vision, but that requires an enormous initial capital injection to procure the raw building materials, spirit fertilizer, and array components.”

Haoran waved his hand dismissively with absolute confidence. ”I already told you—dao points and capital are the least of our concerns. I will fully fund the procurement of points, construction materials, and various other important stuff. We will rebuild Leaf Green City not as it was, but as an impregnable fortress that can compete against those old established factions.”

Qian Yunxi nodded at that, then furrowed her brows. ”And our military? Once the surrounding city-states and neighboring factions realize that Leaf Green City has changed hands in a single night, they will send countless spies, envoys, and trial forces to test our resolve.”

Haoran’s golden eyes flashed with a cold sharpness that silenced the room.

”Let them send whoever they wish,” Haoran said, his voice dropping into a calm, chillingly dominant register. ”I will have Shen Hei create a shadow network that will systematically eliminate any foreign spies crossing the outer ridges before they can gather a single scrap of intelligence. Shen Ji, Shen Jian, and Shen Fei will oversee the restructuring of the city garrison, weeding out corrupt elements and forging a disciplined, elite vanguard corps imbued with our martial standards. And should any outside faction dare to march their armies toward our gates...”

Haoran paused, lifting his cup of spirit tea and taking a slow, measured sip.

”They will simply become the next stepping stones for our ascent. Our goal has never been merely to hold a single city. Leaf Green City is merely the starting platform—the core foundation upon which we will establish our dominion over this entire academy.”

Hearing his calm, unwavering words, Qian Yunxi, Ling Luochen, Xia Mengyao, Ning Xueli, Luo Mingye, Huo Yue, Zhu Ziyan, and Xu Xiansu all looked at Haoran, their eyes burning with shared ambition, unyielding loyalty and conviction in the path ahead.
