One-Eyed Monster

Many people struggle to deal with ruffians, as ruffians always resort to unreasonable tactics. Such behavior leaves victims speechless and helpless, and most people find it difficult to handle effectively.

Ruffians are characterized by their knack for irrationally haranguing others until they get what they want…

One is utterly helpless against such straightforward tactics.

Now, Igor and his team were retaliating in a subtly ruffian-like manner. They wanted to gain an advantage, believing this method could force their opponents to drop their guard and confront them directly.

Although they might not be a match for their opponents in a direct confrontation, they still preferred to fight visible enemies.

On this continent, everyone wants to know who they are fighting. Even the Dark Cabinet, notorious for its frequent assassinations and ambushes, would leave a mark on their defeated foes as a sign of respect for their adversary.

Thus, in the world of Adventurers with Class, failure itself isn’t terrifying. What’s truly frightening is failing without knowing who defeated you…

Wizard Reed, a practitioner of Dark Energy, didn’t much care for the continent’s conventions. He focused on results, not the process. He wouldn’t care if people slandered him behind his back, as long as he defeated them. This time, however, he was genuinely disgusted.

I never anticipated that these youngsters would resort to such despicable tactics, effectively forcing me to reveal myself!

I know I can’t just show myself to these people, but I also can’t guarantee that my summoned Little Black Hands won’t be exposed! This is really uncertain.

Those Little Black Hands are supposed to be following my orders. Perhaps they’ve also been disgusted by these youngsters by now.

How ironic. I initially planned to disgust these teenagers, but I’m the one who ended up disgusted. It seems I’m no match for them when it comes to causing trouble and revulsion!

But what I find even more bewildering is, why hasn’t fear been inflicted on them?

Fear only seems to have materialized around that ordinary boy. The effect is decent, but it’s far from meeting my expectations. What puzzles me is why none of the other youngsters seem affected by the fear at all…

These young men don’t look like they’ve experienced much of the world, much less any real hardship. So how can they react so fearlessly? Could it be that their past experiences have already dwarfed this current situation?

Wizard Reed shook his head. It’s hard to believe. But I won’t dwell on it for now. Since I summoned the Little Black Hands, I should trust them.

Given the current situation, the Little Black Hands haven’t reported any difficulties. So, everything should still be under their control.

For the moment, Wizard Reed could focus on recuperating. The earlier surge of power had been too abrupt, and the backlash had taken its toll. It was primarily a mental strain; his negative and pessimistic emotions had intensified. Even as a Dark Wizard, he was somewhat disheartened by this downturn.

Darkness doesn’t equate to negativity, nor is it inherently pessimistic. Since ancient times, darkness and light have complemented each other. Daylight cannot engulf the night, nor can night conquer daylight. They have always coexisted as equals, dividing every person’s life.

Whether one leans towards darkness or daylight isn’t determined by power, but by one’s innate disposition.

Darkness has its facets, and daylight has its own. No one can definitively say which is right or which is wrong.

It’s just that the world of daylight has always been transparent, while the world of darkness remains hidden.

Those who differentiate good and evil based on daylight and darkness are mostly self-righteous Paladins. They only wish to solidify their existing status, ignoring the underlying truth.

One could say Igor was one deeply influenced by these Paladins, and he had yet to break free from their sway…

Obstinacy is often a key indicator of impending failure. Fortunately, Igor possessed an internal Scale of Faith, a balance that kept him from going to extremes.

Igor found it very strange. Why isn’t my Scale of Faith wavering? Shouldn’t all those summoned things be dark? Aren’t they minions of the Devil, an incarnation of evil?

Why hasn’t my Scale of Faith stirred? Could it be that the old grandmother figure in my heart has fallen asleep?

This bit of association left Igor’s mind somewhat muddled. What on earth am I supposed to do right now…?

Of course, many others in this place were also unsure what to do, including the Little Black Hands summoned by Wizard Reed.

They had been excited upon being summoned. It wasn’t their first foray into this world, a world that greatly intrigued them.

Although they had to obey the Summoner’s commands, they still possessed a degree of freedom in their actions.

At least, they could complete the Summoner’s tasks using their own methods. The Summoner’s pact controlled them but didn’t overly restrict them. As long as they didn’t violate the Exchange Agreement, they could still have some fun here…

Moreover, the task given by the Summoner this time seemed quite interesting: to make the targets feel fear…

This was something they excelled at.

They were adept at appearing before people without being noticed. Through numerous trials, they had concluded that human hands were most effective at instilling fear.

Initially, they believed visual horror was the most potent. However, they later discovered that visual fear only lasted a short while. Once the targets grew accustomed to it, they could endure it, at which point the Little Black Hands would have to cease their efforts.

The sense of touch, however, was different. By continuously touching the target, they could consistently generate feelings of resentment. This would lead the target to despair and eventually develop a fear of the unknown, especially when they touched someone unexpectedly from behind…

This method was unfailingly effective. Moreover, gradually defeating their opponents suited their desire to linger in this world a bit longer…

Therefore, adopting the form of hands was their unanimous strategy. They were quite happy to strike their opponents in this manner.

This mission was no exception. In fact, they anticipated it would be quite simple, as their targets were just a group of inexperienced youths!

However, the actual situation needs no further elaboration; the current scene was something they had never encountered before…
