Our Family Has Fallen

The required procedures were largely the same; the true key had always been the herbs concocted by Grendel. Paracelsus, at least, had some record-keeping to do.

Lance was, in fact, slacking off. He and Amanda were similar; their presence or absence made no difference.

However, this pretense had to be maintained; after all, if any genuine problems arose, he would be the one to act.

Yet, Baldwin’s severe reaction to the herbal medicine didn’t lessen with the course of treatment; on the contrary, the symptoms became even more pronounced.

As his condition improved and the nerves in his body reconnected, he regained control over his body but also felt more acutely the damage the Potion was inflicting on him.

But he truly could endure. Throughout this entire time, he hadn’t uttered a single cry of pain—a genuinely tough individual.

And with the antidote administered, the Potion’s toxicity was alleviated, and the harm to his body gradually diminished. After he spat out all the impurities, the three of them began to discuss the contents of the bucket.

”His condition has improved significantly; the effects of the virus are no longer visible.”

”It’s not much different from last time.”

”We still need to assess Baldwin’s condition.”

At this point, Amanda couldn’t resist her curiosity and leaned in for a look. Upon seeing tiny worms crawling in the blackened, viscous blood, her scalp tingled, and her stress levels skyrocketed.

Hearing them discuss matters in jargon she couldn’t understand made her even more uneasy.

This time, Lance couldn’t wait for Baldwin to recover slowly; he wanted to see the results immediately.

He directly had Baldwin drink a bottle of clear water, then cast ”Bless” followed by a ”Flesh Reconstruction” to improve Baldwin’s condition and clear the side effects of this treatment round.

Baldwin’s condition improved rapidly. Lance also took the opportunity to assess the state of his Flesh, confirming that after seven rounds of toxic cleansing, the leprosy bacteria had been completely eradicated.

”I believe we’ve succeeded,” Lance couldn’t help but turn to the others, emphasizing once more, ”Yes, we’ve successfully treated leprosy!”

Grendel didn’t seem surprised, but she still sighed in relief that their lengthy treatment had yielded results and that she hadn’t disappointed him.

Paracelsus, meanwhile, paused his writing, utterly stunned.

Although he had been involved throughout the entire process, now that the day had actually arrived, it felt unbelievable. Had they truly cured leprosy...?

Lance’s elated tone, impossible to hide even through his mask, finally allowed Amanda to grasp what was happening.

Ah! What happened? Is the treatment complete?

She couldn’t comprehend such a... rudimentary, unceremonious treatment process.

At that moment, Amanda’s mind was a whirl; she simply stood there, dumbfounded.

Among them, Baldwin was undoubtedly the one who felt the most intense impact; Lance’s rapid elimination of the side effects brought him an incredibly clear sensation.

It was the sensation of his body being freed from the torment of the disease. Although he hadn’t returned to his peak condition, am I really saved...?

He had grown accustomed to pain, but even his iron will struggled to bear such an intense shock. Tears streamed down Baldwin’s contorted face as he sat up, clutching his head in his hands and letting out low sobs.

A man does not shed tears lightly, only when overcome by grief.

Lance noticed this but said nothing more, simply gesturing for everyone to leave the area.

Logically, everyone should have been excited, but as they exited, they all seemed preoccupied and fell silent instead.

”Amanda, you can head out first,” Lance said, escorting her out.

It was only after she had walked out of the camp that Amanda seemed to finally process things.

She had entered inexplicably and exited just as inexplicably. It felt as if a part of her memory was missing.

Who am I? What am I doing? Why did I come here...?

Lance turned and discussed matters with Grendel at the tent entrance for a while. Once the sounds from inside had subsided, they re-entered.

”Now, I have some good news and some bad news to share with you,” Lance said.

Lance didn’t bother with the pointless routine of asking which news Baldwin wanted to hear first; he directly explained what they had just discussed.

”First, the good news: the leprosy virus has been cleared from your body. We’ve succeeded in our fight against it!”

Lance’s tone was full of hope, instilling strength in those who heard it.

The others could feel the joy emanating from his words.

But the bad news followed swiftly...

”However, there’s quite a bit of bad news, and we need to look at it from several angles.

Firstly, there’s a very direct issue: although the initial phase of treatment is complete, the traces left by the viral erosion on your body cannot be eliminated in a short time.

This means you’re no longer infectious, but restoring your appearance to how it was before the disease will be very difficult.”

”I am already very content with this. Thank you for My Lord’s aid,” Baldwin replied.

His suffering had taught Baldwin to cherish every bit of kindness. Although he yearned for the strength and body he once possessed, his current state was already a great improvement.

At least breathing no longer felt like swallowing daggers, and every movement didn’t send excruciating pain through his muscles and bones. Things were significantly better now.

”These are relatively minor issues. We will devise ways to improve your condition through subsequent treatments. Given Hamlet’s medical capabilities, it’s not out of the question that you might fully recover one day. You have to trust the doctors.

But the second piece of bad news is that we aren’t certain if your condition will recur. This will require long-term observation and monitoring to track the disease’s progression.”
