Our Family Has Fallen

Chapter 445: Chapter 290: Sacred Object and Prophecy_2

Tamara was a very conflicted person; her most glorious moments were all in the past, and people always unconsciously reminisce about past glories.

As a result, she poured all the hatred from her experiences onto Amanda, believing it was this bitch who had ruined her life and taken away everything that belonged to her. Her hatred was not directed at the Romani people as a group, nor at the organization.

So subconsciously, she still regarded herself as a member of her organization and harbored feelings for the Romani.

However, Lance’s words also made her realize that the fantasies she cherished were unrealistic.

”The Seeker of Omens is an organization founded by the Romani...”

Previously, she had only mentioned it briefly; now, she was explaining the organization in detail.

Its main business was dealing in information, and it also served as an intermediary, communicating between various parties and selling Extraordinary items.

The Seeker of Omens, backed by the Romani’s solid base, had a very powerful presence that spanned every corner of the world. However, there was also a downside: conservatism and membership limited to Romani people.

Yet, it was precisely because of this structure that the Seeker of Omens remained very stable internally—Tamara’s situation was purely an anomaly.

”Inside the Seeker of Omens, there are departments with different functions; the highest level is made up of several Elders. Amanda’s Extraordinary Talent is actually average. She belongs to a department that specializes in Strengthening combat abilities and is responsible for tackling the most difficult tasks.”

Tamara could concede to Lance, but she absolutely couldn’t admit defeat to Amanda; even then, she didn’t forget to belittle her talent.

But this ”average” was only relative. From the moment their environments diverged, Tamara couldn’t beat Amanda, which showed that the gap in talent between the two wasn’t very large.

At this point, this was all she could say to save face.

Lance was too lazy to expose her, but after a bit of thought, he asked, ”And that Sacred Object, how important is it to them?”

This time, Tamara didn’t pull any stunts but honestly took out the item.

It was a palm-sized metal disc with a unique design, its smooth mirror surface carved with intricate patterns that ordinary people couldn’t understand.

”This is a Star Disk named ’Astrologer.’ This object is said to have been forged by Romani ancestors from a piece of magical meteorite iron discovered where a meteorite fell. It is paired with a Crystal Ball called the ’Crystal Sphere Observer.’ Together, the two are rumored to be able to peer into cosmic truths.”

Speaking of this, Tamara exhaled slowly, recalling the incident from all those years ago.

”My Extraordinary Talent was excellent. Because of this, I was trained by a teacher who specialized in astrology. My studies progressed smoothly; none of the others who started with me could keep up. Even when I completed my education, they were still struggling with theory.

”It was when I borrowed this set of Sacred Objects from my teacher. I wanted to use their power to conduct an official astrology ritual and become a true Astrologer. This would signify my official membership in the Seeker of Omens and put the perfect end to that Chapter of my life.

”The ritual began smoothly, but then...”

As she spoke, Tamara suddenly stopped, a look of fear appearing on her face.

”But then what?” Lance was intrigued and annoyed by the interruption.

”I...” Tamara hesitated slightly but eventually continued, ”I saw a sphere, suspended in a black void, shatter, and from within the sphere emerged an indescribable mass of flesh and blood...”

Upon hearing this description, Lance stiffened as if shocked, a tingling sensation spreading through his limbs.

Luckily, he endured it without showing too obvious a reaction.

Now he understood just how terrifying the talent Tamara always boasted about really was. The sphere she had seen was this very planet, and that mass of flesh and blood was the slumbering Primordial God.

It was what the Ancestor coveted, committing many sins for the sake of supplanting it.

And the shattering of the planet was an inevitable endgame scenario within the game.

It indicated that regardless of whether the Ancestor was killed or his actions thwarted, the return of the stars to their positions meant the Primordial God was destined to awaken.

This planet was ultimately doomed to destruction, destined to sink into the despair of a deep, dark void, no matter how it resisted.

She actually prophesied it.

For some reason, a thought surfaced in Lance’s mind unconsciously: So she came to Hamlet!

And this sentence resounded uncontrollably in his mind.

Yes, because she saw it, she would come to Hamlet.

A certain fatalism appeared in Lance’s mind; he felt that Tamara’s arrival was an arrangement of fate.

Lance suppressed the chaos of his thoughts. The end of the world with the stars returning to their places is still too far away; it could be tomorrow or millions of years later. Likewise, destiny, fate, and mission are too nebulous.

Now Lance understood one thing clearly: Tamara was a talent, and potentially a key to salvation.

Having realized Tamara’s importance, Lance’s intentions shifted. Originally, he had just wanted to take the opportunity to pilfer her collection, but now he resolved to include her in his grand plan.

”...That image was only a flash before I lost consciousness. When I woke up, I learned from them that I had lost control at the time. Fortunately, several Elders were also present and managed to control the situation. But soon, I received news that I had been...”

While Lance was brainstorming, Tamara continued to recount the incident, but she soon noticed his distraction.

”Is there a problem?”

”We can’t return the Sacred Object!” Lance came back to his senses, his eyes resolute as he looked at Tamara and threw out his words.

”Ah?” Tamara was somewhat taken aback. If we don’t return the Sacred Object, without that prerequisite, how can we get the Seeker of Omens to stop hunting me? That’s what he was emphasizing just now. Why is he denying it after such a short time?

Tamara’s abilities must be related to those two Sacred Objects. There would be no chance of getting in touch with them again if they were really returned unless I truly led an army to defeat the Romani and take them back. But that is quite impractical for a people that roams the whole world; with branches everywhere, how could I find the exact location of my adversary? Therefore, I must keep a part in my hand to have a chance of strategizing for the other part. And it’s essential to protect Tamara, as no one knows what role she might play.

Damn it. Lance suddenly realized the words he had just spoken were too overcommitted. He had inadvertently severed the link between them, leaving him momentarily unsure how to explain himself without an excuse to re-engage.

”Hmm... I’ve been thinking about something,” Lance paused slightly before explaining, ”I underestimated the power of the Seeker of Omens. If they really are as formidable as you say, the moment you return the Sacred Object will be your death sentence. Even if they don’t kill you directly, they can curse you from afar. By that time, not even I could save you.

”On the contrary, having the object in your hands will make them wary. They wouldn’t know the exact state of the Sacred Object, and your death would mean losing the clue forever.”

When the relationship between two parties grows distant and there’s no entry point to close the gap, the simplest method is to establish a common enemy.

It was clear that this was what Lance was doing, shifting all the blame to the Seeker of Omens, even though the reality wasn’t that simple.

Tamara already distrusted Amanda, and after hearing this, she agreed.

”That’s right, I think so too. But this way, isn’t there no hope of reconciling with them...”

Tamara was genuinely tired. She had stolen the Sacred Object and defected in a moment of defiance years ago. After so many years of being hunted, she wanted to stop, but that wasn’t for her to decide.

”Have you ever killed anyone from the Seeker of Omens? Or any Romani?” Lance looked at her, reminding her, ”Don’t lie to me.”

”No!” Tamara hurriedly denied. ”No matter what, I’m familiar with their methods. Besides, with the Sacred Object to conceal my presence, only Amanda could keep up with me on external missions.”

”So you’re saying, essentially, you don’t have a serious conflict with the organization,” Lance deduced, now understanding why Amanda’s attitude towards Tamara was so nonchalant.

To the Seeker of Omens, Tamara is probably just a small mouse that ran away. Perhaps not many inside even remember this once-prodigy.
