Our Family Has Fallen

Chapter 408: Chapter 273: Destiny? I Never Believed in Fate_3

”No, I simply want to tell you that what I give you is yours. What I don’t give you is useless, even if you take it.”

The meaning behind Lance’s words was straightforward: he felt that even if he returned the item to her, it wouldn’t affect his ability to kill her.

Amanda, of course, understood the strong threat in his words. When had she ever been threatened like this? After all, the Seekers of Omens were renowned Transcendents on the continent.

”You still have two days left in your sentence. If I don’t return by then, someone will release you. If the situation turns bad, someone will release you as well. Your carriage is in my courtyard, and no one will touch your belongings.”

Lance’s expression was calm, and his tone was casual, but the words that came from his mouth were bone-chilling.

”But it doesn’t matter who it is. Once they’re on my turf, they follow my rules. If they break my rules, I kill them. If I can’t find the person, I’ll obliterate their organization and everyone connected to them. I’ll kill until that person comes out.”

Having said that, Lance didn’t wait for any more reactions and turned to leave, leaving Amanda sitting alone in stunned surprise.

It was only after a moment that she came back to her senses, looked towards the iron door, and murmured softly, ”This man is really domineering...”

The army’s mobilization and logistical arrangements were not that quick. Although Lance didn’t believe Amanda’s divination, caution was a good habit. Before leaving, he still had to make some arrangements, so he turned towards a detached house.

In the front yard, many plants grew, some blooming with beautiful flowers. They emitted a refreshing scent, and one could tell without a doubt whom the place belonged to.

Grendel was the treasure of her entire tribe. Her abilities in medicine, agriculture, and Mysticism made her extraordinarily valuable to Lance.

Whatever she needed, she got. The witch’s cauldron and ladle were directly provided for her use. A group of people was even specially picked to form a department for her to command.

This treatment was much better than that of Paracelsus.

Selective crop breeding wasn’t something to be rushed. However, in terms of medicine, production was constant. With so many resources accumulated, there was now a batch of finished products.

”This is an Antidote; you should know its effects. This is an herbal medication that can clear most abnormal states. These...”

Grendel was introducing some of the medicines she had produced recently to Lance, and he unceremoniously took a portion with him.

However, he also realized this was a bit hasty and figured that later on, he might have to organize medical soldiers to learn how to use these medicines and perform simple emergency surgeries.

”I need to leave here to strike at a...”

Lance quickly explained the situation and also mentioned Amanda’s divination about it.

”I don’t believe her, but I believe you. I know your strength is far beyond this. If the situation turns sour and you need to intervene, don’t be afraid. As long as you are not completely dead, I can save you.”

Lance’s gaze was intense as he issued an ironclad promise.

”No matter the situation, even if I have to enter the Abyss, I will save you!”

”I will protect your territory well.” Grendel understood that this was the foundation of her revenge and would not let anything happen to it.

”It’s our Hamlet,” Lance corrected.

Grendel’s gentle heart was disquieted by these words, and she nodded slowly.

”Our home...”

Lance himself was not afraid of danger, but he feared his painstakingly built Hamlet being attacked.

In this, Reynard, who controlled the army, could handle most situations, but he couldn’t be relied upon for matters involving Mysticism. So Lance had to make some arrangements with Grendel, who was currently the only one capable of protecting Hamlet.

Unfortunately, he still hadn’t found anyone proficient in Mysticism. Grendel was versed in Herbology, witchcraft, and necromancy. She also understood Mysticism to some extent, though she wasn’t an expert. Nevertheless, she was the best choice. Tamara was too unreliable; he’d already stopped placing his hopes on her. Catherine was a dilettante; her expertise lay more in archaeology and appraisal. As for that Amanda, with the backing of a major power, she certainly wouldn’t care about his offers. He could only take things one step at a time. He couldn’t just wait for talent to come to him; he had to stabilize the situation quickly and then open up Hamlet to attract them.

On another distant continent stood a huge city. Almost all its buildings were made of white marble, giving off a sacred and bright feeling under the blazing sun.

Especially the central white tower; merely seeing it could make one bow down to its majesty, hardly believing it was made by human hands.

This was the jewel of the desert, the Holy City of the Levantine people.

In this era, such mega-cities were almost always tied to water. The Holy City was no exception, located not far from the coast, though it was perhaps a bit smaller than Totnes. The people walking within also had an exotic flair.

Elsewhere in the Holy City, within a strangely decorated room imbued with an air of mystery, sat a gaunt, middle-aged man. He was well-dressed, wore a white turban, and sat cross-legged, holding a white skull. The most unsettling detail was a slowly burning candle upon the crown of the skull.

At that moment, a conversation unknown to common folk was taking place.

[We have found it...]

[Where?]

[The Northern Borderlands of the Empire...]

[Go get it back. That sort of thing absolutely cannot fall into other people’s hands.]
