Reincarnated As a Fox With System

Chapter 652: Empty Promise!

Tang Li Xueʼs stunning face became a bit pale because of the burning pain, but she still persisted to the end without screaming or crying out.

The burnt wounds on the skin of her entire body looked terrible, but it only took one minute or so for her to completely recover back to normal.

After all the dried burnt skin was shed, Tang Li Xueʼs skin restored back to her usual snowy white and silky smooth again.

Little Loki tried to sniff the suspicious scent on Tang Li Xueʼs body.

The good news was the faint suspicious scent had completely disappeared this time.

Tang Li Xue sighed in relief, but to make it more sure, Tang Li Xue canceled her transfiguration and transformed back into her fox form.

Then she repeated the process again by burning her entire fur and skin using [Sun Dragon Claws].

After her fur and skin regenerated back to normal, Tang Li Xue transformed back into her human form and took another bath to clean up the dried burned fur and skin that was still sticking to her.

With one wave of her hand, Tang Li Xue created a new set of clothes using her [Energy Manipulation].

While wearing her newly made white dress, Tang Li Xue frowned with a solemn expression, and she muttered her suspicion: ”Why did they secretly put a tracking scent on me? Have they already found out about me?”

But she quickly shook her head to deny it: ”No way... If they had found out that I was a fox at that time, they would have already surrounded and detained me.”

”I get it... It means those royal guards secretly split the people they check into three groups.”

”The first group would be the most suspected people, and the royal guards would immediately detain them on the spot.”

”The second group would be the citizens of Imperial City. With a clear identity and background, they should be the least suspected people.”

”The third group should be people like me. The royal guards did not suspect me but without any clear identity or background as the citizens of Imperial City, they still decided to use something like tracking scent on me in case I did something detrimental to them later.”

Tang Li Xue concluded her deduction and took a deep breath to calm down her turbulent mood.

From that, it could be seen that those imperial soldiers and royal guards were very careful and wary of any unstable factor, especially all outsiders like her.

But Tang Li Xue immediately understood the root cause of their worry.

They sealed the entire Imperial City to catch the runaway foxes, but that move would surely cause so much dissatisfaction for outsiders like traveling merchants, visiting cultivators, and so on.

There were millions of people in this Imperial City, and outsiders like her might have accounted for more than a tenth of them.

If those outsiders rioted because of it later, the imperial soldiers and royal guards could immediately track all of them down using the tracking scent and catch them all in one fell swoop.

”What a bunch of cunning bast*rds~!” Tang Li Xue exclaimed in amazement.

But to be honest, Tang Li Xue was really glad that Little Loki could find the tracking scent on her before it was too late.

Because this tracking scent clearly could trip her at any time like a ticking bomb.

”Wait a minute... If those two foxes also had tracking scent on them, and they sneaked into the Imperial Palace without knowing it tomorrow... Damn, it sounds quite bad, doesnʼt it?! Their plan would be the same as a rat jumped into a trap by itself.” Tang Li Xue muttered with a worried expression.

Well... Tang Li Xue was worried, but of course, she was not worried about those two foxes since they were her competitors to win this treasure game.

She was worried that they would tell her plan to the royal guards after the two of them got caught later.

After hesitating for a while, Tang Li Xue sighed in resignation.

”Forget it... It is already so late at night. It would be bad if I got really caught by those royal guards for sneaking around suspiciously at night. Moreover, I might not be able to meet them again even if I come to that inn.” Tang Li Xue shook her head.

She grabbed Little Loki and Yaya and then went to sleep with them on the soft bed.

Tang Li Xue moaned in enjoyment and comfort since she felt it had been so long that she did not sleep on such a soft bed.

In this Foxes Hunting Festival, she always either slept in the underground tunnel or inside the tree hole.

.....

The next morning, Yaya was the first to wake up as usual.

”Ya yayaaaa~!” Yaya pulled at Tang Li Xueʼs collar to wake her up.

Tang Li Xue actually wanted to sleep for a little bit longer, but she heard a commotion in front of her room, so she could only lazily stand up to see what happened.

After tidying up her messy clothes and appearance, then covering up her silver furry ears and tails with a white hooded cloak, Tang Li Xue opened the door and walked out of her room.

Meanwhile, Little Loki and Yaya had already jumped onto Tang Li Xue and sat on her right and left shoulders.

In front of her room, Tang Li Xue saw that Wang Shan actually had a quarrel with the several maids guarding in front of her door.

”You mere maids, how dare you obstruct me?! Guards~! Drag these rebels out and give them one hundred whips as punishment~!” Wang Shan shouted in anger.

Tang Li Xue slapped her forehead as she suddenly remembered that she forgot to cancel the [Mystic Whisper]ʼs order on the several maids to guard in front of her roomʼs door and never let anyone enter her room.

While on the other hand, Wang Shan should have intended to wake her up early this morning and take her to get out of this Imperial City.

”I am sorry, Brother Wang. They did it because I ordered them to do so yesterday. This is my fault.” Tang Li Xue apologized politely to Wang Shan.

She still needs Wang Shanʼs help, so she clearly did not want to offend him yet.

Wang Shanʼs extreme anger instantly melted like the snow in the summer.

He completely forgot about the several maidsʼ offenses and passionately approached Tang Li Xue with an excited smile on his rough face.

”No, it should be me who should apologize instead. Miss Tang should have been very exhausted yesterday. I should let Miss Tang sleep for a bit longer.” Wang Shan caringly said to Tang Li Xue.

Tang Li Xue shook her head and replied with a sad expression: ”How could I sleep peacefully when my parents were dying out there... Actually, I am very worried about them until I cannot sleep at all.”

Little Loki and Yaya secretly rolled their eyes.

Their expression said: ʼYou clearly slept very soundly yesterday until your drool was dripping on us like rain~!ʼ

Wang Shan did not notice Little Loki and Yayaʼs strange expressions, and he felt even more sorry for Tang Li Xue.

”Miss Tang do not need to worry. I will do my best today to bring Miss Tang out of this city to meet with your parents soon~!” Wang Shan muttered to Tang Li Xue with a reassuring tone.

Tang Li Xue nodded at Wang Shan with a relieved smile on her stunningly beautiful face and said: ”If Brother Wang can really bring me out of this city to meet my parents for the last time today. I, Tang Xue, will be willing to do anything to repay Brother Wang in the future.”

Wang Shan was completely dazzled by Tang Li Xueʼs extremely beautiful smile, and he became even more excited after hearing Tang Li Xueʼs promise.

Tang Li Xue blushed slightly in embarrassment, and it made Wang Shan think that Tang Li Xue might already have a feeling for him.

Well, Tang Li Xue clearly blushed because she gave an empty promise so blatantly to Wang Shan.

ʼUhh... Wait a minute... I am not lying, okay?! I am really willing to do anything to repay you, but unfortunately, we will never meet again after you bring me out of this Imperial City...ʼ Tang Li Xue thought shamelessly in her mind.

Wang Shan offered Tang Li Xue to eat breakfast in his courtyard first before he took her to meet his father.

At first, Tang Li Xue planned to reject Wang Shanʼs offer, but seeing the eager expression of Little Loki and Yaya, Tang Li Xue finally decided to accept it.

Wang Shanʼs service was not half-hearted at all, and he had already prepared a lot of delicacies for Tang Li Xue to taste.

Tang Li Xue, Yaya, and Little Loki cleaned all of them without any embarrassment.

Fortunately, Wang Shan was already completely blinded by his infatuation with Tang Li Xue, so he did not mind it at all.

After that, Wang Shan brought Tang Li Xue to ride in his luxurious carriage, and they headed toward Wang Shanʼs fatherʼs mansion.

As Minister of Justice, both Wang Shan and Tang Li Xue were quite sure that Wang Shanʼs father would definitely have a way to sneak her out of this city.
