Madame is Pretending to be an Academic Slacker Again!

Chapter 97: Chapter 97: The Bewitching Mr. Nalan

The mistress of the Nalan Family.

Those few words, which made one’s face flush and ears burn, pulled Qin Xin completely back to reality from her chaotic thoughts.

She came to break off the engagement; she couldn’t let the pace go astray!

She needed to handle today’s visit to Mr. Nalan properly.

”Mr. Nalan, there’s something I must explain to you. I had a little accident before and hadn’t been home for a long time. My family took the liberty of arranging this marriage for me; it was a bit of a joke...”

Nalan Ye Jue listened to her words seriously and politely interjected: ”Allow me to explain, too. Our engagement was not arranged hastily. The Nalan Family and the Qin Family made this agreement many years ago.”

The implication was that this was a very serious engagement, not child’s play.

Qin Xin took a deep breath, unable to believe it.

With such a disparity in family backgrounds, how could the Qin Family have had an engagement with the Nalan Family years ago?

After her father died when she was very young, the Qin Family fell into decline. Even though she had made efforts to revive it over the years, she could never reach as high as the Nalan Family, which had amassed wealth over generations and stood firmly at the top of society.

But she felt embarrassed to ask the man now, why would you want to marry me so many years ago? Why make this engagement?

Otherwise, it would seem like she was overly enthusiastic about marriage.

She pressed her lips together and bowed slightly: ”The engagement was arranged by our elders, but Mr. Nalan, you need not be bound by it. If breaking off the engagement is damaging to your reputation, then let it be initiated by me. I am willing to compensate you for any loss incurred.”

Her tone was firm, her eyes bright and free of any impurity.

Nalan Ye Jue’s gaze, however, gradually became somber.

He said plainly: ”You’ve seen my physical condition, I understand your concerns.”

Qin Xin was taken aback.

She purely wanted to resolve this unexpected engagement without implicating her mother and brother.

She really didn’t mean to look down on him because of his leg disability.

This was a major misunderstanding.

”No, your health is good, really good. As such a young, handsome, and gentlemanly Young Master, you would be the ideal partner for many girls. It’s not because of that...” she hurried to amend.

She truly wasn’t refusing to marry him because he was lame.

Besides, judging by the part she had just touched... he was as healthy as any man could be.

As soon as she finished speaking, a light seemed to flicker like stars in the man’s eyes, with a hint of a smile: ”So, you don’t mind that I’m a cripple?”

Qin Xin was startled by the man’s direct phrasing.

Who refers to themselves as a cripple?

This man has such an open mind.

She instinctively blurted out: ”I don’t mind.”

The man nodded slightly: ”Alright. See you on the 7th.”

Qin Xin: ”Huh?”

Did she hear something wrong? How did this enchantingly attractive man’s topic switch so quickly?

Nalan Ye Jue’s tone was indifferent, yet left no room for refusal: ”See you on the 7th. During this time, you can think about it. If you want to go back on your decision and insist on breaking the engagement, you must tell me personally. No one else can speak for you.”

Qin Xin: ”...”

She hadn’t even agreed yet, how could there be any talk of going back on it?

However, although the man was strong-willed, he wasn’t unreasonable.

Since he had given her the chance to back out, it meant that the engagement could indeed be broken.

This visit was quite productive after all.

She took a deep breath and nodded: ”Alright... fine.”

Nalan Ye Jue shook his wheelchair and personally sent her to the elevator.

Before getting on the elevator,

She couldn’t help but muster the courage to tell him—
