I Am Not A Goblin Slayer

Gauss’s flight drew the attention of many humans and Demons.

The Rot-Wing Dragon Bat, which had held the upper hand all night, was under the most pressure. It abandoned its previously aggressive battle posture and became completely constrained. Anyone could see its inner conflict at this moment.

Perhaps it was bitterly cursing Goblin Lord Snaz’s incompetence, or perhaps it was frustrated over why Gauss had chosen it as his next target. Or maybe it was weighing the consequences of sounding the retreat.

Although Snaz had fought poorly, he had fought to the death here. Respect for the dead dictated that they couldn’t pin all the blame on him. If it retreated, the Two-legged Flying Dragon Vexa and the Giant Demon General Morga could use it as an excuse to fall back, and they could openly dump the responsibility of fleeing onto it.

But if it didn’t retreat—knowing that Gauss had chosen it as his next opponent and with Snaz’s tragic fate as a precedent—how long could it last while resisting both Monroe and Gauss simultaneously?

For a time, the Rot-Wing Dragon Bat Aleks was a bundle of nerves. But it didn’t have much time left to make a decision.

Gauss’s flight speed was extremely fast. As he rapidly closed in, Monroe, who was glaring like a tiger watching its prey, intensified his attacks. He continuously unleashed Supreme Holy Slashes in close-quarters combat against the Rot-Wing Dragon Bat, looking as if he would use every ounce of his strength to keep it here.

While unleashing slashes tens of meters long, Monroe also taunted it.

”Are you going to run away again?

”But so many soldiers died in this battle, and so much equipment was lost with nothing to show for it. Even if you escape back, will your Dragon Lord spare you?

”Won’t it skin you alive?”

Monroe’s words pierced to the bone, like arrows striking dead center into the already frustrated Aleks’s heart. But the more he spoke, the stronger Aleks’s resolve to leave became.

Indeed, if it fled, it would inevitably trigger a chain reaction that would lead to this war ending in dismal failure. And it would be an indisputable defeat. Even if the Green Dragon Army wanted to use its own mental gymnastics to spin it as a victory internally, it would be useless.

After all, too many goblins had witnessed the scene of Snaz’s death with their own eyes. These greenskins would spread it by word of mouth, and eventually, Demons of all other races would also learn of this matter.

Although the humans had also paid the price of an Extraordinary Strong Person dying and numerous Master Level Professionals being heavily injured in tonight’s battle, how could that compare to the tragic fall of Snaz, one of the Four Great Generals?

Snaz’s death was equivalent to a large-scale Army Group losing more than half of its combat power.

Therefore, once it became the first to flee, it would inevitably face severe internal reckoning. Even if the wartime punishment was suppressed, it would definitely have to accept post-war penalties to serve as a warning to You all. Whether it meant losing massive amounts of territory and army servants, or having to act as a mercenary on other, more dangerous battlefields to earn profits for the Queen.

But compared to losing its life, these punishments seemed completely acceptable.

As Gauss gradually closed in, it increasingly felt a strong premonition that it would die. This premonition was so intense that it was impossible to ignore.

Twenty kilometers, fifteen kilometers, ten kilometers...

Seeing that dazzling figure radiating a powerful Giant Dragon Energy gradually closing in, the Rot-Wing Dragon Bat Aleks finally crumbled under the pressure.

”Retreat!”

It ignored Monroe’s obstruction. Dozens of poisonous arrows broke through the obstructing Holy Light Hand. Then, it resolutely turned around, gliding away without a trace of hesitation.

It didn’t dare to bet on whether the aggressive Gauss was just bluffing. It also didn’t dare to delay any further. If it waited for Gauss to truly close the distance or intervene in the battle, it would be too late. Even if it wanted to leave then, it wouldn’t be so easy.

After its command was issued, the surrounding Demons were in an uproar.

Only the Commander Level and Extraordinary Demons breathed a sigh of relief. They could more accurately judge that the moment Snaz died, the situation had completely spiraled out of control. This war they had planned for tonight could only end in defeat; it was just a matter of time.

Who could resist the human who killed Lord Snaz?

Once the other party recovered, he would still be able to kill the other Commander Level Demons and Extraordinary Demons one by one, like a dull knife slowly slicing meat.

”BWOOOO!!!”

The sounds of horns signaling retreat soon echoed across the battlefield. However, compared to the offensive horns when they arrived, the sound this time seemed exceptionally mournful.

After the Rot-Wing Dragon Bat Aleks announced the retreat, the other two Great Demon Generals, the Two-legged Flying Dragon Vexa and the Giant Demon Morga, put on a show of fighting for a while longer. Then, unhurriedly, they also led their own forces to slowly fall back toward the forest.

Their battlefields were relatively far from Gauss, so they had more breathing room.

”Kill!”

”Kill!!”

Suddenly, the humans, who now held the upper hand, acted as if they had been injected with stimulants. A fresh surge of strength welled up in their muscles, which had previously been sore and weak from fighting all night.

Squads of highly mobile cavalry surged out from around the city walls, rapidly charging at the routing Demon troops. The hastily fleeing Demons had already lost all will to fight, and soon, the front ranks of Demons fell one after another into pools of blood.

Not to mention those Demons that were originally fighting the human defenders on the city walls, or those that had breached the walls and charged into the rear camps. They had penetrated too deeply, to the point that they couldn’t even find their way when trying to flee. They quickly became isolated and helpless, only to be swiftly slaughtered by the coordinating humans around them.

Gauss flew to Monroe’s side. His gaze followed the distant, fleeing figure of the Rot-Wing Dragon Bat, but his face did not show much regret.
