I Am Not A Goblin Slayer

Chapter 1020: Chapter 490: Struggling to Hold On, Signs of Defeat Revealed

There were many reasons. His body was currently bearing an extremely high load as he flew backward, though his brain and thoughts remained clear thanks to Future Sight. However, the Magic Power within his body was still rapidly oscillating and in a highly unstable state. Under these conditions, not to mention a Level 2 proficiency skill, even Level 3 or higher skills ran the risk of failure.

Another reason lay with his opponent. The Spiritual Power Talent of Demons was indeed relatively poor, and goblins were not a race known for excelling in this area. But it had to be understood that mental states were not set in stone. The exact same Spell involving the spiritual Domain would have drastically different effects when cast on a drowsy person who had been working exhaustively for days without rest, compared to someone energetic and in a state of extreme excitement.

Right now, this Goblin Lord was in a state of extreme excitement. Moving at high speeds, its massive nostrils continuously snorted white steam, and the gaze it fixed on Gauss was filled with undisguised, primal greed.

“I still have to dodge!” Gauss quickly made his judgment. Now was not the time to counterattack. He still needed to lie low and avoid meeting its attacks head-on for the time being.

From the corner of his eye, he glanced at the wings wrapped around his front. One of them had taken the brunt of the last strike and was already broken. Fortunately, these wings were not made of ordinary flesh and blood, but were Solidification products formed by condensing Magic Power through his [Top-Tier Mana Body]. There was enough time to replenish and reshape them.

Even in the worst-case scenario, if his wings’ defenses were completely pierced and the attack landed directly on his body, he could adjust his posture to trigger Elementalization in the area covered by the Goblin Lord’s kick, ultimately achieving damage immunity.

Through the powerful deductions of Future Sight, Gauss obtained the outcome he wanted. Immediately after, he manipulated the Magic Power within his body to flow “slowly” toward the wings on his back. This slowness was merely an effect within Future Sight; in reality, the speed of this flow took less than a tenth of a blink of an eye.

Upon receiving the Magic Power replenishment, the broken bones of his kicked wing rapidly reshaped and knitted back together, and Platinum wings slowly grew over the wound.

In the true flow of time, Snaz was still closing in on Gauss at breakneck speed like a wild beast. Just as it arrived in front of him, its black thigh—thicker than an elephant’s leg—kicked up fiercely, preparing to deliver an even heavier blow to the wound it had just inflicted.

In its vision, which had become incredibly blurry due to its extreme speed, Snaz faintly caught sight of a fully intact golden barrier.

THUD!

However, it all happened too fast. Before it could think any further, its black light energy, laced with tens of tons of force, slammed into that seemingly frail body.

This time, Gauss was kicked flying even further. A Platinum beam of light dragged across the ground for hundreds of meters, and countless monsters blocking the path were smashed to pieces.

Having completed two consecutive supersonic, fatal kicks, Snaz stopped in place and took a couple of heavy breaths. Though the duration was short, the power it had mobilized was utterly terrifying. If it launched three in a row in its current physical state, there would be a very high risk of tearing its muscles.

Countless pores on its skin released plumes of scorching white steam, making its entire body look like a steam locomotive that had just braked to a halt. Its mind was still replaying the scene of the second kick as it gazed toward the end of the rift on the ground.

Amidst the dust and smoke, the wings shielding the human had broken once again. They drooped in front of him, blood dripping down, making him look rather miserable.

But… according to its expectations, that charged kick should have been enough to completely shatter the opponent’s defenses and land heavily on the human’s frail body. At the very least, it should have taken half his life.

Snaz wondered, “Did he react and use some special method to resist? But how is that possible? There was so little time!”

It smacked its lips, its eyes darkening as an inexplicable, intense irritation swelled in its heart. The human seemed to be shrouded in a mysterious cloud, making fighting him extremely frustrating. Its past combat experiences seemed completely inapplicable to him.

The more it wanted to exert its strength and beat him to death with a single strike, the more difficult he became to deal with. It felt as if it had fallen into a seemingly ordinary pool of mud; the surrounding resistance prevented it from fully unleashing its earth-shattering power.

In the distance, the Goblin Commander and the three Extraordinary Goblins, who were currently directing the goblin legion to press forward in full force, let out waves of cheers upon witnessing their boss “severely wounding” the enemy. They were oblivious to Snaz’s actual feelings in this moment. They only knew that, from the looks of it, their leader clearly held the upper hand, and the human was being beaten so badly he couldn’t fight back!
