Child of Destiny

“Capable of completely keeping their killing intent? Even when they are attacking? Interesting.”

Right after Professor Henry finished his lecture, the others immediately went to do their respective business, but Shin swiftly went up to the professor and asked for guidance.

The old professor contemplated this for a moment before asking Shin to continue. “Let’s hear more about the details.”

He might be bound by the oath that he had with the World Gaming Organization when he joined them for a bit while developing the main frame of «Destiny’s Fate» Online.

However, that was limited only to the core secrets of the game and its main structure. So long as he did not disclose anything about these, then giving some advice and insights to his students should still be fine.

Moreover, the question that Shin had just asked him had a broader scope, not only inquiring about the game, so he should still be able to answer them.

Shin narrated his experience against Cecil in the game and described most of it in detail, ensuring the professor had a clear picture of the process.

After a while, Professor Henry smiled and said. “There can be quite a few reasons for this.”

“One of them can be an ability to travel between the physical and spiritual realm,” he started, explaining the first scenario. “There has always been a legend about this. Our world is divided into multiple realms or layers, and the two of them are the physical and spiritual.”

“The physical realm is what we normally perceive on regular occasions. It is something that our five main senses can perceive. So long as it is something that we can see, touch, smell, taste, and hear, they are mostly found in the physical realm.”

He then paused for a moment, conjuring a transparent pair of identical cups alongside a transparent glass. He then placed them on the table before placing the transparent glass between the cups that were positioned identically.

“On the other hand, the spiritual realm is quite mysterious. There are quite a few theories about this, but the most common one that makes it easier to understand is the theory of the mirror world.”

“This theory talks about the spirit realm being the mirror of the physical realm. It mirrors everything within the physical realm.”

“However, perceiving anything from this place is extremely hard, which is why the theory that the ‘sixth’ sense is born from nurturing a close connection with the spiritual realm.”

“This is also where the Spiritual Sense of the Mentalists comes to be. They believe that our spirits reside within our bodies, but our bodies are mirrored by the spiritual realm, so our spirits can also be considered as the manifestation of our physical body into that realm.”

“Which is why nurturing the spirit is the same as strengthening their connection to this mysterious realm, which is also reflected in the evolution of the ‘Spiritual Sense’.”

He then looked at Shin and said. “You should be quite familiar with this.”

Shin nodded when he heard. After all, he was also a Mentalist himself. Even though he was still unable to bring himself to fully believe these so-called theories, he was at least aware of them and acknowledged quite a few himself.

As for the Spiritual Sense, it was said that the stronger his spirit was, the clearer he could perceive changes in his surroundings, a phenomenon also mirrored in the so-called spiritual realm.

“It is also said that there are quite a few gifted people who are blessed to traverse between the physical and spiritual realms,” continued Professor Henry. “Others with high attainments in Mentalism, particularly those extremely talented Ruler’s Realm Mentalists or those at the Venerable Realm, can achieve something similar as well.”

“It is similar to how those with decent attainments in Spatial Skills as Void Manifestation Stage Experts can shuttle through space and void.”

“This can be the reason why you can’t perceive your opponent within the game. They must be shuttling through the physical realm and another mysterious realm to avoid your senses.”

“After all, you said that their strengths should be at the peak of that plane, right? This is highly possible.”

However, he quickly rejected this idea due to the current situation that Shin was facing within the game. “But it also can’t be the case since the so-called trial should mirror your current attainments within the game. Such an ability should not be at your level, so let’s disregard this idea for a moment.”

“The other case that I think of is most likely to be the case,” he added. “The complete master of their emotions.”

“A complete control of emotions?” mumbled Shin while furrowing his brows.

He had heard something like this, particularly from Jeremiah when he asked about how Vincient was able to hide his presence and killing intent.

It was also something that Jeremiah was using whenever he used that unique ability of his to fill the entire atmosphere with his overwhelming bloodlust.

Professor Henry nodded. “You should be quite familiar with this as well, since two of your friends are from the Valentine Family. After all, it is something that they are extremely skilled in.”

“This method is derived from multiple ancient scriptures, particularly those that are concerned with the Six Desires and Seven Emotions.”

“In ancient scriptures, mastering this principle is mainly from some of the Ancient Buddhism Sects, pursuing enlightenment through serenity and complete reign over their emotions and desires.”

“The seven emotions are joy, anger, worry, sorrow, fear, affection, and hatred, while the six desires are desire for long life, desire to avoid death, desire for image, desire for pleasant sound, desire for pleasant smell, and desire for food and drink.”

“In those ancient scriptures, once you harness all these, you will be able to reach the liberation towards wisdom.”

“There are quite a lot of teachings about this, which will take us quite a lot of time to cover. However, to give you a basic understanding of them, the methods of the Valentine Family can be the best example.”

The old professor paused, recalling the most basic methods of the assassin families, and continued. “Let’s take your friends as an example.”

“That kid, Jeremiah – he was using their family’s secret method to fully explode his emotions, particularly his rage and bloodlust to overwhelm the entire surroundings. This is one of the applications of harnessing one’s emotion and desire.”

“That kid, Vincent, on the other hand, is using that method in reverse. He reigns in his emotions well to hide his true intentions. This is why he can keep his killing intent under complete control and only burst or slip once he makes his move.”

He then took another pause before looking at Shin. “If my thoughts are right, then that NPC who is currently training you must have complete control over their emotions.”

“Along with the background that you have just said, they have extremely high attainments in this area as well.”

“If we compare them to our world’s standards, then they must be an extremely powerful assassin, far surpassing Master Assassins, who are at the Void Manifestation Stage. They should be a Domain Realm Assassin at the very least.”

“It is only natural for you to find them once they make their move, since they can thoroughly hide their intention. Coupled with that ability to erase their traces and hide their presence, finding them is indeed quite challenging.”

He shook his head and added. “If that is truly the case, then you will really have an extremely hard time passing this trial given your current abilities.”

Hearing this, Shin could not help but frown deeply. Thinking that the current trial must be impossible to clear.

He then looked at Professor Henry and asked. “What do I have to do then, professor?”

Hearing this, Professor Henry smiled and said. “It is not as hopeless as you thought. It is just that you are a bit lacking in some areas, which is why you are having trouble facing such an opponent.”

“The system will never give you an impossible quest unless it is something that requires some special requirements or certain conditions to be cleared.”

“If my guess is right, then this must be your current limit for this so-called Tower of Inheritance,” he added along with a mystifying smile.

“Regardless of how well they control their emotions and keep their killing intent hidden, there will always be a window for them to release it once they have the intention to kill.”

“They are just too quick for you to perceive,” he then laughed and said. “There is nothing much you can do with this. All you have to do is always be on guard, making sure to ‘feel’ their intention to kill once they make their move.”

“You also have to train your Spiritual Sense to a certain degree, making sure to capture such small windows whenever they appear. I can help you with that.”

“Of course, you also have to know what kind of ability they use to hide their tracks. But that is for you to figure out,” the old professor continued to laugh.

He then turned around and saw that Selena was currently idling on the corner, seemingly waiting for Dayna to finish organizing some paperwork before going out together.

“This is a good opportunity,” he said before calling out for her. “Selena, come here for a moment. Help me train this junior of yours.”

Hearing this, Selena’s eyes suddenly turned bright, and she swiftly stood up. She then happily hopped her way toward them, extremely liking the idea.

Shin, on the other hand, felt like this was not a good idea. “This smells of trouble.”

Unfortunately, he could not do anything about it since the professor himself had instructed it.
