Child of Destiny

Lawless was patiently waiting within the bushes a few distances away from Zero who had five members of Earners Mercenary Group chasing after him.

Earlier, Faker drew a plan for them to rescue Seven. And since both Zero and Faker possessed an insane speed that could help them escape from the members of their opponents, Lawless agreed to leave the job to them while he was going to hide in the distance have given them cover if necessary.

Their opponents were a group of Monster Class Players, so they needed to be careful with their moves. But being a part of an elite group could also be a problem since there was a tendency for them to let their guard down due to overconfidence.

That was what exactly happened in the previous event. Since every member of the group was a top-notch player, they ignored the fact that they could be ambushed.

Then Zero created a window for Faker to sneak into their ranks. He attacked their leader, Flouree, and attracted the attention of everyone to himself.

Due to the sudden ambush, each member of the Earners quickly put their guards up and got ready for the battle. But little did they know, Faker already sneaked to their side and took Voltage’s life, who already exhausted himself from his previous fight.

Such a perfect assassination was truly perfect of his godlike title, the Death God Faker.

Not only that, but he also picked up the imprisonment prism containing Seven before escaping with his insane speed.

That was only when the rest of the Earners manage to respond in time. They started bombarding Faker with their attacks to prevent him from getting away while the rest were chasing after Zero.

Given the overall power of the group, it was impossible for the Faker, Zero, and Lawless to fight the Earners with just the three of them.

But it was a different case if they managed to separate the group and divide their fighting force, weakening their overall strength.

Everything was going according to plan and what only was to put enough distance between the two groups that the Earners had separated.

Their original plan was to rescue Seven and immediately retreat, avoiding a direct confrontation with the mercenary group entirely.

They already achieved their goal and even get the bonus of eliminating a member of the opposing group, so the trio could now retreat and regroup with Shin and the rest. But they didn’t expect that the members of the Earners would get too emotional in the process, so they were considering if getting a little greedier was possible.

The trio thought that losing three of their members from the Sweepers of Pandemonium Descendants frustrated the group, so seeing one of their comrades die right under their noses finally snapped the final straw of calmness that they were holding.

With their fuse being lit like that, the group finally lost their cool and started chasing after Faker, not willing to let him get away.

He might be the legendary Death God, but he was still alone. And with Mirage locking his ‘Target’ Skill at Faker as well as Basion, Sabec, and the three thieves chasing after him, escaping was going to be impossible to achieve.

Their captain was also chasing after Zero along with the rest of their group, so they didn’t have to worry about that side.

Unfortunately for them, Faker and the other two already expected this to happen and further lure the group deep into their trap.

Faker purposely controlled his speed and let the three thieves catch up to him a little but not giving them the opportunity to attack.

They were only in a good distance to keep an eye on him if ever he suddenly entered stealth but not in the range where they could launch an attack to harass him.

Fighting them might be impossible but running away and maintaining this pace was not a problem for someone like Faker.

While he was continuing to lure these guys away from their captain the rest, Faker was keeping an eye on the map at the corner of his eye. He was taking note of the distance between him and the spot where Lawless was located.

“This should be enough,” muttered Faker before suddenly leaping forward with a powerful jump.

Such actions confused the guys chasing after him, especially Mirage who was an Elven Archer. Exposing himself in the air would only make him an easy target.

Then they suddenly saw Faker turn around midair before throwing something at them.

Swoosh!

They couldn’t clearly see what kind of object Faker had thrown at them due to its extreme speed. But at the same time, they were not worried about it since they were confident that Mirage would take care of it.

And sure enough, as the marksman of their group, Mirage quickly nocked an arrow on the string of his bow before pulling it back and taking aim.

He only needed an instant to do all of those actions at once before releasing the arrow with great precision.

All of it happened too fast since it was already an instinctive action. Due to that, it was already too late when he noticed that something was wrong with the object that Faker had thrown at them.

“Thayrin, Zurra, Asprey, sprint forward! Don’t let him leave your sight!” shouted Mirage at the three thieves up ahead.

The three were somewhat confused by his words but still complied and used their movement skills to increase their speed. They also locked their gazes on Faker who was about to fall to the ground a few meters away from them.

Bang!

It was also at that moment when Mirage’s arrow hit the object that Faker had thrown. It instantly exploded right after the collision before spreading a thick smoke that blocked the light of sight of Mirage, Basion, and Sabec.

Fortunately, the three thieves listened to what Mirage had said which was why they didn’t get caught by the smoke bomb.

They continued to run forward and finally caught up to Faker. Unfortunately, they still let him escape from their grasp as he skillfully avoided their combined attacks with a series of insane dodging maneuvers.

Regardless, they still didn’t let him get in stealth freely. Whenever Faker tried to shake them off and enter stealth, one of the three thieves would accurately hit and interrupt his skill.

Those slight hits couldn’t deal serious damage to Faker, but it was forcing him out of his stealth whenever he got hit by them.

Swoosh! Swoosh!

Swoosh!

Then the trio of Mirage, Basion, and Sabec finally got out of the smoke. Mirage quickly locked his gaze on Faker and re-activated his ‘Target’ Skill once again to prevent Faker from escaping his sight even in stealth mode.

Not having a choice, Faker quickly increased his speed and continued to run away.

In the meantime, Flouree couldn’t help but wear a deep frown as she felt that someone was wrong.

It was impossible for the opposing side to only have Zero and Faker rescuing the guy that they had captured. She was confident that they should have brought more people with them to deal with her group.

But she also has some doubts. They had already been chasing after Zero for quite some time already yet not a single ambush was launched against them.

Moreover, given her understanding of a certain person in the opposing group, that guy would not be able to wait this long when there were a lot of good opportunities to show off his strength just now.

“Did they not bring that guy along with them?” muttered Flouree to herself.

It was at that moment that she sensed an immense threat coming from above. She quickly raised her head at saw a Tigerkin falling from the trees over their heads.

“GoodyShoe, use Bulwark!”

Hearing the shout of his captain, the Guardian Knight running at the forefront of the group quickly stopped and slammed the bottom of his shield on the ground, activating one of his group protection skills.

‘Guardian Knight Skill (Tier 2): Bulwark of the Glorious’

Then the golden dome of light suddenly protected the entire group as Lawless fell from above them and slammed both of his arms like a pair of hammers.

Boom!

The protective barrier shook violently when Lawless slammed on it. But aside from that and small cracks that appeared at the point of collision, nothing special happened.

Seeing that his ambush failed, Lawless quickly leaped away from the top of the golden dome of light as he could see Flouree and Jia firing their spells at him.

Zero was also turning around at that time and swung his swords in the air, sending a cross-shaped wind blade at their opponents.

‘Extra Skill: (Modified) Wind Blades’

Swoosh!

Bang!

The crossed blade made of wind instantly shattered the golden barrier protecting the opposing group, making them vulnerable once again.

But Flouree and her group were already making their preparations at that time as well as keeping an eye on their surroundings, expecting more enemies in hiding.

But to their surprise, none of the opponents that they were expecting appeared. Instead, a familiar figure manifested right in the middle of their formation.

Faker suddenly appeared beside their priest like a ghost, swinging his daggers at the defenseless opponent.

– “What is this guy doing here? Isn’t he being chased by Mirage and the others?” – these were the thoughts that were running inside the heads of the others at Faker’s sudden appearance.

Fortunately, Flouree was able to quickly recover herself and immediately cast an ice barrier at their priest, making Faker’s unexpected ambush fail.

Cling!

“Tsk!” Faker clicked his tongue a little when he saw his target get enfolded with a frozen pyramid before disappearing once again.

When he reappeared, he was already standing a few meters away from Flouree and her group, forming a triangular encirclement alongside Lawless and Zero.

Seeing that, Flouree couldn’t help but furrowed her brow, realizing their situation.

It was the same for the other four members of her group. They might have the advantage in terms of numbers but it didn’t matter to the three gods surrounding them.

Flouree tried to contact Mirage and the others and wanted to ask them what happened but she realized that she couldn’t send any message.

She further frowned when she discovered that. ‘The space is most likely isolated!’

A lot of thoughts flashed through her head as she was trying to assess their situation. If Faker was here, then she could only think that the rest of their opponents were currently engaging in a fight with Mirage and the rest of the team.

Unfortunately, she didn’t have the time to confirm her suspicion as they already fell into a trap and entered an isolated space.

All she could do was throw all of the useless thoughts at the back of her and focus on the opponents that they had on this side.

“Formation Delta, we will focus on protecting each other and escape from here,” she commanded in a whispering tone before adding. “I’ve got a bad feeling about this, so we need to leave as soon as possible.”

Hearing the heavy tone behind their captain’s words, the rest of the group nodded solemnly and got in their positions.

They also knew that this was going to be one of the hardest battles since joining the Earners Mercenary Group.
