Child of Destiny

Thud!

“Hu~!”

Voltage fell on his butt with a soft sound, feeling exhausted from the previous battle that took place.

He then looked at the person a few meters away from him and spoke. “Tsk! It is more troublesome than expected. You sure live up to your reputation.”

Seven, who was fighting fiercely against him earlier, was now kneeling on the ground. He held his head low as his movements were restrained by the lightning spears crisscrossing against each other.

Despite giving everything, Seven still failed to defeat Voltage. Regardless, he still managed to put up a good fight. Even if he lost in the end, his opponent was still forced to use almost all of their cards in that battle.

Swoosh! Swoosh!

Then a series of gusting sounds could be heard from the distance followed by the appearance of silhouettes that were rushing towards their direction.

Getting a glimpse of them from the corner of his eyes, Seven knew that it was already too late. He still failed in the end.

He did everything to lure Voltage away from their previous location as far as possible to create enough distance away from the other members of Earners.

He was also leading his opponent toward the location where Zero and the others were located so that they could arrive there much faster than those guys, but it looked like the latter group arrived much earlier.

Whoosh!

Ta-ta!

“Eh? You are still not done?” asked one of the Earners after discovering Seven.

“You did quite a mess here, huh?” commented another after sweeping their gaze in the area which was now pretty much devastated compared to the snowy forest where they came from.

Voltage turned to them and greeted Flourre. “Oh! You’re here, captain.”

He then leaned back and supported himself with both of his hands pushing the ground behind him, responding to the earlier questions. “That guy is much stronger than what you think. Killing him may be easy but making sure to capture him alive is so much of a challenge.”

Flouree didn’t give her remark as she was also aware of how strong Zero was. And such a powerful person was keeping Seven by his side, then the strength of this guy couldn’t be underestimated.

“You did a good job, now leave the rest to us,” she said while walking over to Seven. And without further ado, she took a purple cube from her inventory and pointed it to the latter.

Whoosh! Whoosh! Whoosh!

Then black chains suddenly shot out from that purple cube before wrapping themselves to Seven. And since the latter was being restrained by the lightning spears stabbed at the ground, he couldn’t resist the chains from capturing him.

Seven closed his eyes and waited for the process to end as the rest of the mercenary group watch everything from behind Flouree.

Swoosh!

But before the imprisonment prism finished its job, the sound of something sharp cutting through the air could be heard.

A wind blade was heading straight to Flouree’s arm, traveling at extreme speed.

Sensing the threat incoming threat, Flouree quickly let go of the imprisonment prism and used Blink to teleport herself away.

Thud!

The imprisonment prism fell on the ground with a soft sound as it continued to suck Seven into it. But despite being pulled forcefully, Seven didn’t panic and let himself get taken away by it. There was even a relaxed smile on his face during the entire process.

In the meantime, Flouree and the rest of her group quickly turned to the direction where that wind blade came from and started getting ready to fight.

But when their attention was attracted towards the assailant, someone suddenly appeared behind Voltage like a ghost and took him down with a series of skills.

Vital Strike, Backstab, Laceration, and Cut Throat – these four skills were executed in quick succession, not giving Voltage any time to retaliate.

Because Voltage was pretty much exhausted from his previous battle, his senses became a little dull which was why he didn’t sense the sudden appearance of the ‘ghost’ behind him.

The appearance of his captain and the rest of their group also created a sense of security which was why he failed to notice the sudden arrival of such a skilled assassin.

On top of that, he was also currently sitting on the ground when everything took place, so he was not in a position to defend himself, much less able to warn his teammates.

Not even the rest of the Earners was able to notice what happened as their attention was attracted to the source of the attack that was sent to their captain. Such a misdirection gave that ‘ghost’ enough window to take down their defenseless teammate.

Moreover, everything happened too quickly and with much silence, so they couldn’t respond even if they wanted to. And when they noticed that something was wrong, it was already too late.

Flouree was the first to notice the death of Voltage and shouted out of instinct. “Voltage!”

But even if she noticed what happened, the person who took down Voltage already disappeared right after he took down his target.

The rest of the Earners, on the other hand, simultaneously turned their heads to the direction where Voltage was located earlier after hearing their captain. Then they saw their colleague’s lifeless body which was already in the middle of turning into specks of light.

In the meantime, Faker, who managed to sneak into their ranks and take down Voltage, used that opportunity to take the imprisonment prism that captured Seven on the ground and quickly retreated.

“B*st*rd!” that was only the time when the rest of the group realized what just happened, especially Mirage, the Elven Archer of the team, who felt humiliated.

As the ranger of the team, he was supposedly the one who noticed the opponent first given his senses and the special abilities of his class. But not only he failed to notice the assassin sneaking in their ranks, but he also let that person kill their teammate, steal the imprisonment prism, and most of all, escape unhindered.

He quickly used his ocular skill and locked his gaze on the escaping assassin, not letting him enter stealth. He then started firing a series of skills at the locked target, slowing down his escape.

Despite the high accuracy of each of those skills, none of them found their target as Faker skillfully dodged each one of them without turning his head at them. It looked like he had a pair of eyes at the back of his head, informing him about the incoming barrage of arrows.

But despite successfully dodging them, Faker’s speed noticeably slowed down, making the rest of the Earners shorten the distance between them.

Basion and Sabec were the first ones to act when they noticed the assassin running away, so they quickly gave chase. The three thieves of their group also entered stealth and started making their moves.

In the meantime, the others didn’t forget the other assailant who attacked them first earlier. They turned their attention towards that person and started making their respective preparations.

“Sister Ree, that must be Zero,” said Jia, one of the mages of the group, as she looked cautiously at the person standing in the distance.

Flouree slightly nodded her head and also looked solemnly at Zero. She was expecting them to arrive, but she didn’t know that they were going to be bold enough with their moves, especially Faker who took down Voltage under their noses.

Regardless, she was not going to let them get away without paying any consequences, so she quickly cast a series of buffs to herself as well as a Mana Shield.

“We’re going!” she said, commanding the rest who remained in their positions.

Then they started heading toward Zero who was also retreating in the distance. They maintained an inverted ‘Y’ formation while advancing forward.

A Guardian Knight was at the tip of the formation, leading the charge fiercely. Even if he knew that they were facing the current number one player of the Godlike Ranking List, he was advancing without a hit of fear as he was confident with his strength as well as the rest of their group.

They might have let their guard down earlier, costing them the life of one of their comrades, but that was it. They couldn’t dwell on that matter since it already happened.

Moreover, the assassin was Faker, also known as the Death God. With such a highly skilled player who stood at the peak of the assassin class, it was pretty normal for them to pay the price for letting their guards down.

Behind that Guardian Knight was a Beastman Shaman who was constantly giving him buffs, enhancing all of his physical captivities.

There was also the Bishop behind that Shaman who was also giving additional buffs on top of the ones that he received from the latter.

At both tails of their formation, Flouree and Jia were already making their preparations. They already cast their spells and were waiting for them to reach a desirable distance to throw those spells at Zero.

In the meantime, Zero had no plan of facing them head-on. They already achieved their goal of rescuing Seven and even took the life of a member of the opposing group as a bonus, so there was no reason for them to stay there.

Though, he also had to admit that he was impressed at the actions that Faker had displayed. ‘Nothing less to expect from the Death God.’

Next, they only needed to focus on escaping from the pursuit of the Earners. It might be challenging but it was not impossible.

At the same time, they also didn’t have to worry about their formation. Unlike the other party, they could escape on their own, whereas those guys from the opposing side needed to worry about the well-being of their members.

Zero turned his head slightly to the side, checking the formation that Flouree and the rest had. If those guys dared get careless once again, then he would make sure to make them pay for underestimating them.

There was also Lawless who was hiding in the distance and waiting to ambush their opponents if the opportunity presented itself.

But before anything else, he needed to break the formation of their opponents and make sure that they would not be able to retaliate when that time came.

Having that thought in mind, Zero started formulating a plan inside his head, weighing the possibilities if they could afford to get a little greedier in this situation.
