Raising Yanderes to save the world

”Is this...the burden Selene was bearing alone? I have to admit that it is hot and bothersome. My chest is burning with the thought of wanting to take revenge.”

Kana had never felt a rage like this before in her life. She even knew that she was angry at the wrong person. After all, Kael had nothing to do with the attack on the elf village, and he was just a bystander.

But when she recalled the look on the Saintess’ face and the Hero’s tone, it made her feel as if Kael was the reason behind everything that happened.

”Ah, no wonder my sister was ready to throw her life away for the sake of her revenge. This feeling is all-consuming, and it won’t leave me alone. Now, where should I begin?”

The key difference between Kana and her sister was the fact that her sister was not able to handle the pressure due to being continuously subjected to it. Hate and love were different sides of the same coin, and her sister mistook one for the other.

But Kana was rational, and she was mature. She might be suffering and finding it hard to separate her feelings for Kael, but her feelings about this matter were clear—the elves were about to fall into danger, and as the next elder, it was her duty to help them out.

And if it meant subjecting the other races to their power and staging a rebellion, then so be it.

Kana would see to it that her people did not suffer any further.

And just for the record, the thought of breaking free from the corruption never even crossed her mind, and it never would. The corruption had sunk into their bones and become a part of them. Now, it was no longer possible to separate the two.

...

”Lady Kana, you are back so soon? What about the alliance...? And Lady Selene...?”

Kana’s blank eyes looked at her caretaker before emotion filled them. She tried her hardest not to cry as her nanny looked for her other charge, only to find that she was nowhere to be seen.

”Nanny, please be calm and listen to me. Selene has...she has passed away, trying to ensure that the elves remain safe.”

”No! That cannot be!”

The nanny gasped, bringing her hand over her mouth to stop her sobs from escaping. She could not believe what she was hearing from the younger elf.

Kana quickly grabbed her nanny’s shoulders before she could break down and deny reality. Her determined eyes met the nanny’s, and Kana helped steady her.

”Please don’t look so gloomy, Nanny. Selene has not left us without hope. She has shown the elves the way out of our predicament. So please, hold your head high. We have to act now.”

Kana reassured her grieving nanny, and the nanny looked startled but soon pulled herself together and nodded.

”Y-You are right! There is a lot we need to do for Lady Selene. Please, tell me what you need me to do.”

The nanny looked determined, which was good. Kana could really use her help for now.

”Nanny, we will soon receive a letter from the temple asking if they can visit us. Please decline that letter on our behalf and tell them that we are grieving Selene’s death. Buy as much time as you can and...please announce the elves’ gathering. It is time we act for our species’ survival.”

Kana had a hard time saying all this, and she watched as her nanny’s eyes widened in shock.

”My lady, this is...”

”I know. That meeting is only used in emergencies and at times when nothing else is more important than survival. But that is what I am trying to tell you. This time, there is nothing more important than the survival of the elves. Don’t you agree as well, Nanny?”

Kana asked, and her nanny hesitated. She still harbored doubts in her mind...

But if her lady was telling her this, then there had to be merit in it, right?

”I understand, my lady. I will gather everyone and spread your message. But the temple...? What if they take it as a provocation and come to attack us?”

Nanny asked in a worried voice, but Kana was quick to reassure her.

”There is no need to worry about such a thing. The temple would be against us no matter what. And I will reveal the reason during that fateful meeting. Now go and spread my words.”

Kana assured her, and the nanny had no choice but to nod and leave. Now, it was only a matter of time before the true clash happened. And only one side would come out on top afterward.

...

”Tsk, the elves declined our invitation, stating that they want to mourn Lady Selene’s death. To think that they would use such a tactic...I apologize for not being able to help you out.”

Seraphina made an ugly face as she looked back at Kael, but her eyes instantly turned tender and she let out a sigh.

She had not meant to show her ugly side to Kael, but she had not been able to control herself this time either.

’I need to be more careful next time and keep my emotions in check. There is no need for Kael to see me acting out.’

She reminded herself and took a deep breath. Once she felt more composed, she dared to look at Kael, but he did not look disappointed in her.

”I see. I expected Lady Kana to pull something off like this. What about you, Brother? Did you get a reply?”

Kael asked, looking at Adrian, and it felt weird for Seraphina to hear him address anyone else as such.

Adrian shook his head to show that he had no news.

”I did not get a reply.”

His words were disappointing, but Kael did not seem to think so. In fact, he could not help but feel like this was an opportunity he needed to seize.

”I see. Then, we should take advantage of this occasion and join their mourning. They won’t welcome the temple, but surely an ex-fiancé whose engagement ended without either party talking things through should be fine?”

It likely wouldn’t. But who would tell the young Duke no without risking their lives?
