My Goblin System : Levelling up with my SSS Class Devouring skill

Chapter 403: Chapter 403

Lyra broadcast through the network to all named settlement defenders:

”All named commanders and elite fighters—deploy to frontline combat. The humans have sent their senior officers to hunt our leadership. We meet them directly. Show them what happens when they underestimate us.”

From positions throughout the settlement, the settlement’s veteran fighters and named leaders moved toward combat.

Commander Vex’ahlia with her eighteen elite demon warriors, purple-tinted skin and centuries of combat experience.

Kelvin who’d survived three days of siege warfare, wounded shoulder and all.

Skar, the serpentfolk chief whose natural predator instincts made him deadly in close combat.

Urgak and his son Gruk, leading the remaining orc shock troops—sixty-four orcs who’d become the settlement’s primary heavy infantry.

Jessica remained at the medical stations, but her brother Kelvin carried her blessing into battle.

Thrak the demon engineer, normally non-combat, armed himself with tools that could kill as easily as build.

And from positions throughout the settlement came others:

Tarak, the veteran goblin who’d survived eight battles and become an informal leader among goblin defenders.

Viss, the serpentfolk warrior known for having killed seventeen humans in personal combat over three days.

Krix and Grix, goblin warriors who’d fought through every major battle of the siege.

Thomas, the human builder who’d joined the settlement after being rescued from bandits, now fighting to defend his adopted home.

Grumash, the orc who’d dug post-holes for eighteen hours straight and then picked up an axe to fight.

And others—named fighters who’d earned their reputations through three days of brutal combat.

They moved toward the frontline, ready to meet the human commanders in direct combat.

The battle was about to evolve from mass warfare into a series of champion duels.

Eastern Sector: Major Aldrich vs. Commander Vex’ahlia

Major Aldrich was forty-seven years old, a twenty-nine-year veteran of the Church’s military. He’d fought in the Demon Wars, survived three sieges, commanded in forty campaigns.

He wore heavy plate armor blessed by battlefield priests, carried a bastard sword with holy water coating the blade, and moved with the confident precision of someone who’d killed hundreds of enemies in personal combat.

He pushed through the eastern sector’s rubble with twenty elite soldiers following him, searching for the demon commander he’d observed coordinating the eastern defense.

He found her near a collapsed building, directing fifteen demon warriors and twenty goblin defenders in fighting withdrawal from advancing human infantry.

Commander Vex’ahlia.

Purple-tinted skin marking her as demon-born. Dual short swords moving with supernatural speed. Centuries of combat experience evident in every economical motion.

”Demon commander!” Aldrich called out, his voice carrying military authority. ”Face me directly, or I’ll kill your soldiers one by one until you do!”

Commander Vex’ahlia turned, her black eyes assessing the human officer with professional recognition.

”A challenge. How... honorable.” Her voice carried ironic amusement. ”Very well, human commander. You want single combat? You’ll have it.”

She raised her voice to her demon warriors: ”Pull back! Form defensive perimeter! This one is mine!”

The demon warriors withdrew, creating a cleared space between Vex’ahlia and Aldrich.

Aldrich’s soldiers similarly pulled back, forming a ring.

This would be a duel.

Commander vs. commander. Human experience vs. demon supernatural ability. Holy blessed weapons vs. demonic combat skills.

They circled each other, weapons ready.

Aldrich struck first—a testing blow, a horizontal slash designed to gauge his opponent’s speed and reaction time.

Commander Vex’ahlia’s dual swords intercepted the strike, deflecting it with minimal effort. Her counter-attack came instantly—both blades striking from different angles simultaneously.

Aldrich barely got his shield up in time. Both swords struck the shield with force that drove him back a step.

Fast. Inhumanly fast.

They engaged properly.

Aldrich’s bastard sword moved in practiced patterns—cuts, thrusts, defensive positions learned over three decades of training. His holy blessed blade burned with divine energy every time it struck demonic flesh.

Commander Vex’ahlia fought with dual-weapon technique refined over two centuries—blades moving in synchronized patterns that attacked high and low simultaneously, creating constant threat from multiple angles.

Aldrich scored first blood—a cut across Vex’ahlia’s thigh where his holy blade sliced through her guard. The wound sizzled with divine energy, burning deeper than a normal cut would.

Commander Vex’ahlia grunted with pain but didn’t slow. Her counter-attack was immediate—both swords striking at Aldrich’s head from left and right simultaneously.

Aldrich ducked, feeling the blades whistle over his helmet. His own counter caught Vex’ahlia’s side, opening a shallow cut that burned with holy fire.

They separated, both wounded, both bleeding.

”You’re skilled,” Aldrich acknowledged. ”But holy weapons burn demon flesh. Every cut weakens you. Eventually, divine energy will overcome supernatural vitality.”

”Perhaps,” Commander Vex’ahlia replied, her breathing controlled despite pain. ”But I’ve been fighting for years. How long have you been fighting, human? Thirty years? Forty?”

”Thirty-seven campaigns. One hundred seventeen personal combat duels. I’ve killed eighty-three opponents in single combat.”

”I’ve killed two hundred forty-seven over countless years.” Vex’ahlia smiled without humor. ”Experience doesn’t always favor the old, human. Sometimes it favors the ancient.”

They engaged again.

This time, both fought with full commitment—no testing, no hesitation. Life-or-death combat between matched opponents.

Aldrich’s sword work was textbook perfect—military doctrine applied with precision and power. Every strike threatened vital areas. Every defensive position was optimal.

Commander Vex’ahlia’s dual-blade technique was fluid, creative, unpredictable. She attacked from angles Aldrich’s training hadn’t prepared him for, used demon flexibility to contort her body in ways humans couldn’t replicate.

Aldrich scored a second hit—his sword catching Vex’ahlia’s shoulder, cutting deep. Divine fire poured into the wound.

Vex’ahlia screamed—not surrender, but rage—and her counter-attack was devastating. Both swords struck simultaneously at different targets: one blade caught Aldrich’s sword arm, cutting through armor at the elbow joint; the second blade stabbed through a gap in his chest armor, punching into his side.

Aldrich felt his right arm go weak from the elbow wound. Felt the stabbing pain in his side where Vex’ahlia’s blade had penetrated armor.

He wasn’t defeated yet, but he was hurt badly.

They separated again, both seriously wounded now.
