Reborn into the 70: Turning Adversity into Her Dazzling Path

”Why? I’m your mother, can’t I come back?” Old Mrs. Gu got upset as soon as she heard Gu Chunhai’s words, ”This is my home, why can’t I come back?”

When someone is shameless, they are truly invincible.

Gu Lingling, carrying the meat she had just received, smiled slightly.

Old Mrs. Gu chose to come back today for sure because it was the day when the meat was distributed.

You have to understand, it’s not easy to buy meat in the city, especially since Old Mrs. Gu and their household registration are still in Nanshui Village.

”So much meat was distributed this year.” Sure enough, Old Mrs. Gu’s eyes lit up when she saw the meat in Gu Lingling’s hands, eager to grab it right away.

As she spoke, her hand reached over.

Gu Lingling glanced lightly at the greedy Old Mrs. Gu and skillfully dodged her grasping claws, ”Grandpa, Dad, I’ll head inside first.”

”What’s with your attitude? No manners at all, I’m your grandma. You brat, can’t even greet someone.” Old Mrs. Gu said angrily.

”Mom, Lingling just greeted you, it’s you who didn’t respond.” Gu Chunhai said.

”Push Grandpa inside.” Old Sir Gu said, ”Chunhai, once you’re done talking, close the door carefully so a dog doesn’t run in and steal the meat.”

Old Mrs. Gu, ”...”

Who was that ’dog’ referring to?

”Old man, how can you be like this...” Old Mrs. Gu said tearfully, ”Don’t you know what kind of life we’re living now? We haven’t had a bite of meat for months.”

”Chunhai, I’m not just crying poor, but only when you get to the city do you realize it’s not even as good as our countryside, you need a ticket for everything you want to buy.” Wang Meili is a temporary worker, and their household registration is all in Nanshui Village, so they aren’t included when the city distributes ration tickets.

And in the city, buying meat or anything requires a meat ticket, if you don’t have a ticket, who would sell you meat? Isn’t that asking for trouble?

If Wang Meili hadn’t asked someone to think of a way (as Wang Meili herself said), they might not have seen meat for months.

”When we split the family, we agreed on this.” Gu Chunhai’s expression didn’t change at all, he waved his hand to signal Gu Lingling to help Old Sir Gu indoors, ”It’s only been a few months, have you already forgotten?”

”You... do you really have the heart to not care for your own mother?” Old Mrs. Gu said.

”Back when we split the family, it was you who didn’t want me as a son.” Taking Wang Meili and Gu Juan, you left without looking back, almost emptied the house.

Did you not think about your son at all?

”This meat isn’t even enough for the three of us, you should go back.” Gu Chunhai was truly tired.

”Grandma,” Gu Lingling came out and said with a smile, ”why did only you come back? Aunt never cares about such matters and always sends you, she really doesn’t take you seriously.”

”Stop sowing discord.” Old Mrs. Gu glared at Gu Lingling.

Don’t think she doesn’t know, this girl is definitely trying to stir things up.

”Does it even need stirring? Anyone with a clear mind can see it.” Gu Lingling snorted, ”By the way, Grandma, don’t you know how to make hawthorn cakes?”

Clearly, they were just talking about meat, and suddenly it switched to hawthorn cakes, leaving Old Mrs. Gu unresponsive for a moment. Instinctively, she replied, ”Why would I know how to make those troublesome things? It’s too much effort.”

She had seen Wang Meili make them before, and it was too tedious.

And Old Mrs. Gu always believed filling the stomach was enough, the complicated method of making hawthorn cakes made her reluctant even to think about it.

Just why did this girl suddenly think to ask about that?

”There’s still some hawthorn at home, if you don’t know how, I’ll dry them and let Grandpa and Dad have them with water.”

Gu Lingling explained.
