After I Fully Prepared for the Apocalypse, the Ungrateful Cried with Regret

Chalrton Hawthorne was a Thunder and Water Dual Element Superpower User.

These two superpowers combined were like a winning hand, yet he still couldn’t defeat the experienced Caleb Carter.

Fortunately, Nina Jacobs didn’t give him a low score, and her evaluation was quite positive.

It was currently the break period after a match. Walsh brought over some homemade pastries and freshly brewed hot tea, offering them to Nina and the other judges for afternoon tea.

Standing in the corridor, Nina looked at the regret-filled Chalrton Hawthorne before her. He seemed to have come specifically to thank her.

”Actually, I also wanted to ask what you meant by ’creating a domain of your own’...” Chalrton hesitated for a moment before asking.

That was a phrase from Nina’s critique of him, and he didn’t quite understand it.

”Do you know which element is the best partner for the Thunder and Water Elements?” Nina asked.

Chalrton froze for a second. The best partner element?

”It’s the Earth Element, which has the strongest defense,” Nina said straightforwardly. ”But as a user of the Thunder and Water Dual System, you actually have a way to perfectly substitute the Earth Element. The Ice Element Superpower can also possess the high defensive properties of the Earth Element. Although combining thunder and water amplifies your power, it also has quite a few shortcomings. You worry too much about avoiding the backlash.”

Listening to Nina’s words, Chalrton nodded repeatedly in shock. ”That’s exactly it. Using both thunder and water simultaneously requires extremely high Control Power. The slightest deviation will result in a backlash against myself or my allies.”

This was an unavoidable physical trait, but to make the two elements combine more effectively, he had no choice but to do his best to overcome it.

To think that Nina, a Superpower User of a completely different element, could see right through it.

”Take this. I believe you’ll perform even better in the future.” A Mystic Stone appeared in Nina’s palm.

Chalrton had heard of the Mystic Ice Core. ”Is... is this...” He stared at Nina with wide, shocked eyes.

”A Mystic Ice Core. It’s very suitable for you right now. It’s a gift.”

After Nina spoke, Chalrton was too stunned to speak.

”A Mystic... Ice Core? Are you really giving this to me?” A Mystic Ice Core was incredibly hard to come by in the base, yet Nina was just giving him one like it was nothing? ”This... it wouldn’t be appropriate for me to accept it, would it?”

Chalrton definitely wanted it, but he still retained some sense of reason. He couldn’t afford to accept something so valuable.

”Don’t worry, I won’t use this as leverage to make you do anything for me,” Nina said calmly.

Although Mystic Ice Cores were precious, the thousands of them left in her inventory were practically useless to her.

”I didn’t mean it like that, it’s just too valuable.” After a moment of thought, Chalrton carefully accepted it. ”Since you think so highly of me, I will definitely repay this favor in the future.”

No one saw them talking, and he had already tucked the Mystic Ice Core away.

After Chalrton accepted the item, Nina unexpectedly received a notification from the system.

It seemed this Mystic Ice Core would end up saving his life?

Watching Nina walk away, Chalrton still felt as if he were dreaming. The captain of the Stellarys Team had just given him a Mystic Ice Core for no apparent reason...

Nina returned to her seat, her expression as calm as usual.

She hadn’t given the Mystic Ice Core away without a reason; it was just that she had heard Wayne Abbott mention this man yesterday. As it turned out, back when Wayne’s team was ostracized by Hugo Crawford’s people, Chalrton was the only one who had genuinely helped them.

If Chalrton hadn’t led his people to fend off trouble for them, they might not have even made it back to the base that one time...

At the judges’ seats, the crowd, whose nerves had been highly strung all day, relaxed quite a bit thanks to the afternoon tea Walsh had brought.

”There’s only the last match left. Who does Captain Jacobs think will win between these two?” Philip Morgan asked.

”We won’t know until they fight,” Nina answered.

The final match was between the Fire Element user Michael Miller and the Water and Wood Element user Alister Keller.

Although Alister was a Dual Element Superpower User, he wasn’t at the Intermediate level yet. Michael, on the other hand, was already an Intermediate Fire Ability User. It looked like Michael had a higher chance of winning.

”I heard that something unpleasant happened between Captain Jacobs and Michael yesterday?” Philip asked with a smile.

”Unpleasant? Nothing of the sort. We had a very pleasant interaction,” Nina replied after taking a sip of tea.

”Hahaha, that’s good then. However, Michael suffered some external injuries. I wonder if it will affect his performance in today’s match,” Philip added.

”It’s just a minor injury. If it affects his Superpower’s performance, then he’s truly unfit,” Adrian Paige said as the match was about to begin.

Looking at Michael, who was being pushed into the arena, Philip’s mouth twitched. That was considered a minor injury?

As soon as Michael, who had suffered ”a minor injury,” entered the arena, the crowd in the surrounding spectator seats began to whisper among themselves. Among them were quite a few voices gloating over his misfortune.

”That guy is up to no good all day long. It’s pure karma, hahahaha.”

”I heard he was crushed by an old stone slab. Truly, heaven is watching what mortals do.”

”Serves him right! Forcing people out of the base in such freezing weather before was practically murder!”

”...”

The tournament arena was inherently quiet. Hearing the discussions coming from all directions, Michael’s face turned incredibly ugly.

”Apologies, Mr. Miller, for making you compete with me while listening to everyone’s insults. But you probably don’t mind, right? After all, it seems like everything they’re saying is true,” Alister said, leaning in from behind after pushing Michael into his starting position.

”Do you have a death wish?” Michael felt that something was off about Alister today.

”Of course not. I won’t die before I defeat you,” Alister replied after standing up straight.

”You?” Michael sneered. There was no way he would lose to a Superpower User who was a tier lower than him.

”This Alister Keller specifically came to find me yesterday,” Myra Lawson said, sitting next to Nina.

Only then did Nina realize that Alister had personally requested this match against Michael. It seemed there was bad blood between these two?

”You don’t need to worry about what happened yesterday. The base won’t just let someone like that do whatever they want,” Myra added, having already learned about the previous day’s events.

”Yeah.”

With the sound signaling the start of the match, the two sides began to fight.

The difference in their levels was obvious at a glance. Michael’s Fire Element attacks were extremely overbearing and packed immense explosive power. Although Alister managed to block every attack, he was forced entirely onto the defensive.

Everyone thought Alister would remain on the defensive forever, but after just a few minutes, the Fire Element attacks unexpectedly weakened significantly.

Several vines glistening with dew merged into a giant vine fan. As the fan swept at high speeds, it scattered the opponent’s aggressive streams of fire. The moisture content in the arena surged, causing massive clouds of mist to billow up from time to time.

Michael sneered, conjuring several Flame Lock Chains that tightly bound the vine fan.

Just as the vine fan shot out Water Arrows that tangled with the Flame Lock Chains, a massive Water Tornado formed in the center of the arena. Within the Water Tornado, intricately coiling vines served as its structural framework.

The dried vines attracted the Fire Element Superpower, subsequently dragging all of the fire elements straight into the Water Tornado! Before long, four walls of water also appeared around the perimeter of the arena.

”What powerful Water Element Control Power,” Chester Pearson praised.

The fact that Alister could suppress a Fire Element Superpower that was a level higher than his own proved that his strength was truly extraordinary.

Nina was also beginning to understand why Alister had wanted Michael as his opponent.
