After I Fully Prepared for the Apocalypse, the Ungrateful Cried with Regret

During this time, Cordelia and the others had also gathered quite a bit of information.

Lornwood Base was in the process of building a water pipe system that would service the entire base.

This was one of the reasons many people still held out hope for the base.

If the base was building water pipes, then one day, they would surely have a water supply.

But if that was the case, why control the water from the very beginning?

They had even captured all the Water Element Superpower Users.

They must be trying to achieve something through the water.

”You’re right! You’re right!”

Harlan shot to his feet.

He had been plagued by many doubts lately.

Nina Jacobs’s few words seemed to have unraveled them all.

”Even though I think this is absurd...”

”...it makes sense.”

Reinhard Caldwell’s hand trembled slightly as he lifted his cup.

Grim’s expression was also tinged with anger. ”Then we have to kill Anselm Hughes as soon as possible.”

Nina Jacobs, however, disagreed.

”That’s not the best solution. It could very well make things worse.”

”Do you have a plan?”

Harlan asked expectantly.

To his disappointment, Nina Jacobs shook her head.

”I’ve just made some guesses based on what I’ve seen lately. I don’t have a counter-plan. Of course, you’re free to have other suspicions.”

Nina Jacobs’s brow relaxed a little. She looked at the three of them and added, ”I think if you all have the means, you could try collaborating with Tomorrow Base first. After all, they’re short on people over there.”

Grim held a certain amount of prestige among the base guards.

And Reinhard Caldwell had even been a captain of the guards once.

That was something she had never expected.

”Tomorrow Base?”

Reinhard Caldwell exchanged a look with the other two.

’If that’s the case,’ he thought, ’I need to send some people to Tomorrow Base to check out the situation as soon as possible.’

...

That afternoon, Nina Jacobs heard the news of General Hughes’s return.

However, it seemed he didn’t have the energy to look into whether Lexy was a Hydrokinetic Cat.

Because he was severely injured.

Upon hearing this news, Nina Jacobs became very curious about what had happened to General Hughes.

It seemed others had come to the base with the general, but they were all refusing visitors.

So, Nina Jacobs activated her ”Five Senses Enhancement” and focused it on General Hughes’s residence.

”...Who the hell leaked the news that Hughes was seriously injured? If certain people in the base find out and try to make an issue of it, what do we do?”

Arcadia White was reprimanding her subordinates.

”Sis, don’t scare Julia. Your husband and you have a good reputation in the base. What kind of trouble could those people stir up? Besides, with my Healer here, he’ll recover in no time.”

A man in the courtyard spoke while holding the little girl, Julia Hughes, in his arms.

Arcadia White sighed. ”I’m just worried about the ’what ifs.’ The base hasn’t been very peaceful lately, and now this Tomorrow Base has popped up. I’ve heard a lot of people have gone there in the last couple of days.”

”Tomorrow Base...”

The man said through gritted teeth.

”What is it, Ambrose? Did you guys also...” Arcadia White immediately dismissed everyone in the courtyard, then turned and walked over to ask.

’Ambrose White?’

Sitting in her residence, Nina Jacobs listened with great interest.

But what Ambrose White said next stunned her.

”Today, we ran into a group of people who claimed to be from Tomorrow Base. Your husband fought them, and that’s how he got seriously injured,” Ambrose White replied.

”What did you say?”

Arcadia White was astonished. She asked, ”What kind of Superpower did that person have? Your husband is an Intermediate Superpower User. Who in all of Keldorn is stronger than him? Could that person be an Intermediate, too?”

Ambrose White shook his head. ”He’s not an Intermediate, but he is a Dual Element Superpower User. One of his Superpowers is Fire Element, and the other is Spiritual Element.”

The moment Ambrose White spoke, Nina Jacobs understood.

’A Fire and Spiritual Element Superpower User... that’s Felix Finch.’

In her past life, Felix Finch was one of the three great masters of Keldorn. Last time, Felix Finch had easily turned the tables and killed The Aegis Conclave’s Achilles Renner. Even though he wasn’t an Intermediate yet, it wasn’t impossible for him to severely injure General Hughes.

This came as a pleasant surprise to Nina Jacobs.

”That man also had several incredibly cunning accomplices. Utterly despicable!”

Ambrose White gnashed his teeth just thinking about it.

”What about you? Why didn’t you go help your brother-in-law? Even though he isn’t one of us Whites, he met with this disaster because he was picking you up.”

Arcadia White’s tone was reproachful.

”Second Sis, you’re blaming me unfairly. Do you know who my opponent was? It was Valerius Lucas and his gang! I couldn’t spare a hand.”

”Valerius Lucas... you mean that group of ex-soldiers who escaped the base? But didn’t you say they were poisoned by Thane Trevor?” Arcadia White asked in surprise.

’No one should be able to cure Thane Trevor’s poison.’

”Who knows? All I know is they looked perfectly fine to me. I suspect they’re also the ones who took that batch of Crystal Cores we left near the Zombie Lizards,” Ambrose White said.

Nina Jacobs shot to her feet.

Back in the dormitories, when Killian Hayes and Cassian Lynch had returned injured, she had saved them with a ”Healing Potion” and learned that they had encountered Zombie Lizards.

Originally, she had only found the sudden appearance of the Zombie Lizard Swarm to be suspicious and even suspected that some supplies might have been left behind.

That was why on the very day she got out of the correction pod, she had sent Genevieve to Tomorrow Base with a message.

’Could it be that Felix Finch and his group not only went, but also found the Crystal Cores?’

”...Crystal Cores aren’t that rare. But such a large quantity... your brother-in-law hasn’t dared to report it to the old patriarch yet. You’d better not mention this to anyone for now,” Arcadia White said with a frown.

”Don’t worry, Sis. I’m definitely on your and my brother-in-law’s side. It’s just a few truckloads of Crystal Cores, no big deal...”

Ambrose White went back to teasing his niece, and Julia’s repeated calls of ”Uncle” quickly cheered him up.

’A few truckloads of Crystal Cores...’

Nina Jacobs was desperate to know what Felix Finch and his group were up to.

But she also knew she couldn’t get out for the time being.

Right now, the house where she, Cordelia, and the others were staying was surrounded by people.

There were Superpower Users and ordinary people among them, all gathered because they had heard she had a Hydrokinetic Cat.

Cordelia was pacing anxiously in the courtyard.

Silas Crowley sat to one side, cursing angrily about something.

”Don’t worry about what’s happening outside for now. If we want to leave, we’ll go out the back,” Nina Jacobs said to the others in the courtyard.

It was now late afternoon, and the sun was brutally hot.

She had previously used her Earth Element Superpower to create a hidden back door that only she and Tobin, another Earth Element Superpower User, could open.

”I’m just so angry! That Rhonda Rowan is a real piece of work. You saved her life, you know. And she turned around and sold you out just like that,” Cordelia said, indignant on her behalf.

”Who sold out whom... that’s not yet certain.”

Nina Jacobs didn’t seem worried at all.

Seeing this, Silas Crowley’s eyes lit up. ’Could Nina Jacobs still have an ace up her sleeve?’

However, Nina Jacobs and the others stayed inside the house all afternoon.

Lexy even produced three large barrels of water, all of which Cordelia stored in her space.

It wasn’t until evening that the sound of gunshots and explosions suddenly erupted from within the base.

”They’re here.”

Nina Jacobs stood up from her bed.

This was the reason she had been so calm all day.

For the past few days, she had been using her ”Five Senses Enhancement” to listen in on the entire Lornwood Base.

Including what she’d overheard late last night: someone was planning to rescue Evander Langdon.
