After I Fully Prepared for the Apocalypse, the Ungrateful Cried with Regret

The woman stared at Nina Jacobs in shock.

The glaring flames rising in the distance happened to block everyone’s view.

She glanced around and asked, ”Can we still escape now?”

”I can cover you, but someone has to stay here to hold them off,” Nina Jacobs replied.

The woman’s face turned deathly pale at Nina Jacobs’s words, but she knew a sacrifice was inevitable.

About ten minutes later, a dense mist suddenly filled the air.

The mist obscured everyone’s vision. Even Anselm Hughes, standing on high ground, frowned. ”Cecily Wells!”

”Yes!”

Cecily Wells immediately activated her Wind Element Superpower. As the mist was gradually blown away, someone shouted:

”They’re making a run for it!”

”Trying to run?

I’ll find out who sent you today if it’s the last thing I do!”

Through the mist, Anselm Hughes led his men in pursuit.

”There are more of them running that way!”

The scent of blood in the night had already started to attract zombies.

”You all stay here and protect the supplies. I’ll go after the rest.”

Nina Jacobs said, then gave chase with Wayne Warner under the cover of night.

Cecily Wells had wanted to follow, but seeing all the supply vehicles still there and the zombies that had been drawn in, she had no choice but to stay with the remaining people and kill the zombies first.

In a distant grove of withered trees, Nina Jacobs and Wayne Warner walked in.

”All right, you can come out now.”

Nina Jacobs said, facing the spot where the scent of blood was thickest.

A group of people emerged, supporting one another.

In the darkness, their expressions were grim as they all watched Nina Jacobs with wary eyes.

”Who in the world are you?

Why did you let us go?”

Dylan Dixon asked.

”Because I want to know what you’ve found. If you’re willing to share information, not only will I let you go, but I can also heal him.”

Nina Jacobs pointed to a man being carried on someone’s back.

The man had been struck by several Gold Spikes and looked like he was on the verge of death.

”What do you want to know?”

At that, another man beside Dylan Dixon stepped forward.

”Who is the person behind Anselm Hughes? Where is he? Or rather, who are these supplies ultimately for?”

Nina Jacobs asked.

”Are you from Crestfall, too?”

Dylan Dixon couldn’t help but ask.

Nina Jacobs shook her head. ”I’m not, but I have a friend from there who’s helping me now.”

After hearing Nina Jacobs, the man hesitated for a moment before speaking:

”The person behind Anselm Hughes isn’t at Lornwood Base. According to our investigation, they originally came from a place called White Village. There was a powerful clan in the village where everyone shared the surname White. Anselm Hughes was originally a son-in-law of this White Family. The entire White Family is behind him, but they later moved, and no one knows where they went. We’ve been to White Village—it’s completely in ruins now.”

’White Village is already gone?’

Nina Jacobs felt a pang of regret. She had originally planned to investigate White Village herself.

”We tracked their supply convoy, but they just loaded the supplies onto a train and left. There was no one on that train, yet it was able to leave on its own. It had to go through mountains and tunnels, so our people couldn’t follow it,” Dylan Dixon added.

’So mysterious?’

”Even if you kill Anselm Hughes, it will be useless. It will just alert the enemy,” Nina Jacobs said.

”Anselm Hughes nearly wiped out our people from Crestfall. How could we possibly let him go!” one of the men burst out.

”You said it yourselves; he’s just a son-in-law of the White Family. The true culprits are undoubtedly connected to the White Family. If Anselm Hughes dies now, you might never catch the masterminds.”

The men found her words hard to believe.

”Why? As long as they’re still in Lornwood Base, we’ll expose their conspiracy sooner or later.”

”Because you can’t afford to wait,” Nina Jacobs said.

”They’ve already stripped Lornwood Base bare, leaving behind an empty shell. Why are they shipping out supplies? Don’t you understand their true objective?”

Nina Jacobs looked at them, her tone calm.

”They will eventually abandon Lornwood Base entirely, take all the supplies, and hide somewhere you’ll never find. These people are extremely cautious. If an Intermediate Superpower User like Anselm Hughes dies, they might abandon Lornwood Base and simply disappear.”

”Of course, this is just my speculation.”

Nina Jacobs was basing her speculation on events from her past life.

The reason Lornwood Base’s survivors were ultimately poisoned to death was, in all likelihood, connected to the White Family. As long as everyone was dead, no one could trace any clues back to them.

Evander Langdon was just a scapegoat.

The whole world knew that Evander Langdon had taken the supplies; no one ever mentioned the Whites.

Hearing Nina Jacobs’s words, the men’s faces turned ashen.

Zombies, drawn by the scent, approached from the distance. Wayne Warner silently went to intercept them.

”Then what should we do? Is there really no other way?”

Looking at his dying comrade, Dylan Dixon was suddenly filled with despair.

’No matter how hard we try, will it all be for nothing?’

Nina Jacobs took out a vial and fed its contents to the man on the back who was bleeding nonstop. He seemed to have been watching her the whole time, but was unable to speak.

”Find a way to contact me. And remember, for now, don’t tell your inside source about meeting me tonight.”

Nina Jacobs put away the vial and left quickly with Wayne Warner.

”How did she know we have an inside source?”

Brandon Driscoll looked at Dylan Dixon.

”It wasn’t me! I didn’t tell her anything,” Dylan Dixon quickly explained.

”COUGH... COUGH...”

Nearby, Redmayne Spencer spoke weakly, fighting through the pain:

”She’s very smart. She knew that the only way we could have tracked them here... was with help from an inside source.”

Meanwhile, Nina Jacobs had already used her Speed Element Superpower to rush back alone to where they had been resting.

Eighteen minutes had passed since she had given chase.

The return trip had taken her less than two minutes.

She first observed from a distance, seeing that Cecily Wells and the others were still outside the low wall, killing zombies.

General Hughes, however, did not seem to be back yet.

’The perfect opportunity.’

Nina Jacobs glanced in a certain direction, and her figure moved so fast that she vanished in an instant.

When she reappeared inside the low wall, she had already taken on the appearance of Claire Warner.

The zombies inside the low wall seemed to have been cleared out, but a few members of the escort team were still guarding the supply vehicles.

”Who are you!”

One of them spotted ’Claire Warner’.

A Gold Spike shot through his temple an instant later.

Immediately after, Nina Jacobs used her Gold Element Superpower to instantly kill the rest.

Looking at the supply trucks that had been reinforced with the Gold Element Superpower, Nina Jacobs just waved her hand, and all the doors swung open.

The first few trucks were packed with bags of supplies. Nina Jacobs felt one—it was clearly grain!

The four trucks behind them were filled with ammunition.

Without a second thought, Nina Jacobs took it all.

The sounds of fighting continued from outside the low wall, and Nina Jacobs heard General Hughes’s voice in the distance.

She didn’t hesitate, vaulting over the low wall and sprinting back in the direction she came from...

By the time Nina Jacobs and Wayne Warner returned again, the atmosphere was incredibly tense.

Although she had anticipated this, she still acted as if she had just gotten back.

”What took you so long!”

General Hughes was still fuming as he demanded an answer.
