Chapter 493: Chapter 209: Zhao Feng’s Day-and-Night Gallop, Charging into the Qin Palace! (Part 2)

However.

The reorganization naturally brought about negligible results; the surrendered soldiers remained too numerous.

”Kindly report to the Great King.”

”The Penal Battalion should not be reorganized, I propose that we handle the surrendered soldiers according to the original method, demote them to slaves, and deport them to the Northern Frontier, Shu Region, and other labor locations.” Wang Wan stepped forward and spoke loudly.

”I second the proposal.”

”If such a large labor force is utilized appropriately, our Qin can strengthen national power and reduce consumption.” Huai Zhuang immediately echoed.

”We ministers concur.”

Many ministers also echoed in agreement.

The captured soldiers of the past were all slaves, and they were robust slaves. Besides being deported to the Northern Frontier, many would also flow into the civilian market for sale, generating huge profits.

In the court, the old nobility naturally favored the slave trade.

After all, the profit was too substantial.

Therefore, when Zhao Feng proposed the Penal Battalion, the entire court opposed it.

This was because Zhao Feng had infringed upon their interests.

But ultimately, Ying Zheng decided on it.

This forced many of the influential figures involved in the slave trade to abandon the activity.

And now with such a good opportunity, they were naturally unwilling to let it pass.

”Yu Qing.”

”What is your view on the handling of these surrendered soldiers?” Ying Zheng turned his gaze to Yu Liao.

”Responding to the Great King.”

”General Zhao Feng has experience in handling surrendered soldiers.”

”I think we should wait for the General’s return to settle the issue of dealing with the surrendered soldiers.” Yu Liao replied neither humbly nor arrogantly.

Upon hearing this.

Wang Wan immediately stood up: ”Great King, this matter can be easily handled by using our original Qin methods, which can strengthen national power and reduce the loss of resources. It is a superior method of handling in any case, so I humbly request the Great King to make an immediate decision.”

”We also request the Great King to decide.”

Many ministers stood up again in agreement.

Apparently.

Wang Wan was truly afraid of Zhao Feng, fearing that Zhao Feng would come up with another method of dealing upon his return, leaving the slave trade empty-handed once again.

”This matter.”

”Wait for Zhao Feng’s return to decide.” Ying Zheng slowly spoke.

”Great King, this...” Wang Wan’s face changed.

”Great King.”

”Now that the Yan envoy is already waiting in the side hall, would the Great King like to see him?”

With respect, Meng Yi stepped forward to inquire.

”Since the Yan state has sent an envoy, it would be improper if I do not meet him.”

”Announce him.” Ying Zheng waved his hand.

Concerning the Yan state.

Ying Zheng was somewhat troubled at this moment.

On the surface.

The Yan state and his Qin do not engage in any conflict, and even express submission and friendship towards our Qin’s authority.

This gives Ying Zheng no reason to launch a campaign against the Yan state.

Because if military actions were taken against the Yan state, the Qi and Chu states would certainly not stand by idly.

They would undoubtedly send troops to aid the Yan.

In the past, during the attack on Han.

Qin used border friction as a pretext, and Han’s alliance with Zhao in warfare against Qin as a reason to launch an attack.

Back then, when various countries co-existed, Qin launched its campaign against Han with lightning speed, not giving any other countries a chance to react and quickly destroyed Han.

Subsequently, Zhao state was annihilated.

It was in response to the Yan state’s call for aid, which was a righteous cause.

The destruction proceeded without any obstruction.

As for the elimination of the Wei state, it needs no further explanation; they were the first to wage war against Qin, giving Qin a justifiable reason to retaliate.

But now.

With only three countries remaining.

Without a justifiable reason to attack the Yan state, the other two nations would not remain idle.

”The Great King has issued an edict.”

”Announce the Yan envoy into the hall for an audience.”

Zhao Gao shouted this aloud.

The voice echoed throughout the court and reached outside the hall.

While in the side hall.

”The Great King has ordered, summoning the two envoys into the hall for an audience.” An Imperial Guard approached the location of the hall, addressing Qin Wuyang and Jing Ke inside.

At this moment.

Qin Wuyang already had a look of panic.

Jing Ke, however, was very calm.

”Let’s go.”

”Do not delay the audience with the King of Qin.” Jing Ke said in a deep voice.

”Yes.” Qin Wuyang composed himself with difficulty, then holding the National Book, walked towards the outside of the main hall.

Jing Ke, carrying a box, closely followed behind Qin Wuyang.

The main and deputy envoys of the Yan state walked tensely towards the Qin’s Morning Discussion Hall.

”Yan envoy enters the hall.”

Zhao Gao shouted hoarsely.

Led by Qin Wuyang.

Jing Ke followed, walking into the main hall.

Meanwhile.

Within Xianyang City.

”The General has returned to the capital, with urgent business for an audience.”

”Everyone clear the way.”

Han Chenyan shouted loudly in front.

The Imperial Guards manning the city gate were at first stunned upon seeing Han Chenyan.

But upon seeing Zhao Feng behind him.

They did not hesitate for a moment.

”Make way.”

”Clear the path quickly.”

The Army Marquis of the Imperial Guard immediately shouted.

Moving barriers like chevaux de frise out of the way.

Han Chenyan led the way.

Zhao Feng followed closely.

Five hundred trusted aides charged towards the city like a tidal wave.

This scene left the Imperial Guard Army on duty somewhat surprised.

”What’s happening? Why is General Zhao Feng in such a hurry?”

”No idea.”

”In such a rush, it must be an urgent military affair. Could it be another country invading Qin?”

”Impossible.”

”Qin’s national power is so strong, who in the world would dare to oppose Qin?”

”This has nothing to do with us small folk; anyway, we have the Great King and all the Senior Generals to guard us.”

The Imperial Guards, in general, were not worried at all.

Meanwhile, the citizens in the city who saw Zhao Feng galloping by with his trusted aides were all shocked.

They discussed amongst themselves, not understanding the situation.

Along the way.

Zhao Feng was unimpeded.

He arrived directly in front of the Royal Palace gate.

”Halt.”

At the palace gate, the Imperial Guards immediately reached out to block the way.

”It’s me.”

Zhao Feng said to the Imperial Guards.

”Salute to the General.”

Seeing Zhao Feng.

The Imperial Guards bowed and saluted one after another.

”Has the Yan Envoy entered the palace yet?” Zhao Feng asked sternly.

”He has been in the palace for a while now; he should be in audience by now.” The Army Marquis of the Imperial Guards replied respectfully.

”It’s too late.”

”You wait outside.”

”Open the palace gate and let me in.”

”Quick.”

Zhao Feng commanded with a serious expression.

Seeing Zhao Feng like this.

The Imperial Guards at the palace gate dared not delay even a second.

They immediately opened the gate.

The trusted aides, however, had to scatter outside and could not enter the palace.

The moment the gate opened.

”Hyah!”

Zhao Feng suddenly urged his horse on.

The warhorse shot forward like an arrow through the clouds.

Charging directly into the Royal Palace.

”May I boldly ask, did something happen with the Yan Envoy?”

”I’ve never seen General Zhao Feng so anxious before?”

The guard on duty looked at Han Chenyan in confusion.

”The General suspects the Yan Envoy is trying to assassinate the Great King.” Han Chenyan said in a grave tone.

At this moment.

Han Chenyan naturally did not hide anything.

As soon as he finished speaking.

All the nearby Imperial Guards changed their expressions drastically: ”What?”

”The Yan Envoy attempting assassinate?”

”Is this a joke?”

”How dare they attempt to assassinate the Great King?”

”Are they not afraid that Qin will wipe out Yan?”

”That’s impossible.”

While shocked, the Imperial Guards found it hard to believe.

”The General wouldn’t be wrong.”

”We rushed over here non-stop for five days and nights from Shaqiu.”

”If it were false, why would the General be in such urgency?” Han Chenyan said solemnly.

”What should we do then?”

”The Yan Envoy has been there for quite some time now.”

”If he really attempts to assassinate the Great King, wouldn’t it be too late?”

”No, it won’t.”

”The palace has strict security; they can’t bring weapons inside, and there are Imperial Guards on duty outside the hall. The assassin won’t have a chance.”

The Imperial Guards assured one another.

Meanwhile.

Inside the great hall of the palace.

Qin Wuyang held up the national document and proclaimed loudly: ”I, Qin Wuyang, servant of King of Yan, have come to present a national gift.”

”This is the national document gift ledger.”

Qin Wuyang presented it respectfully.

”Just announce the items to be presented.” Ying Zheng gestured, his expression calm.

Compared to Yan’s so-called gifts, Ying Zheng was more interested in the Yan state.

”The gifts presented by the Yan state.”

”Ten thousand gold pieces.”

”One hundred thousand coins.”

”One hundred thousand bolts of fine cloth.”

”A thousand jade artifacts.”

”And the map of the Duchang Territory that King of Qin desires the most.”

”This is my Yan state’s way of showing respect to Qin, offering the Duchang Territory map.”
