Chapter 471: Chapter 202: Triumphant Return to Xianyang! The King of Qin’s Thoughts!

Yan Kingdom, Ji City!

”Report to the Great King.”

”Wei has fallen.”

”The Wu’an Military Camp of Qin flooded Daliang, Wei Wuji died in battle, and the King of Wei surrendered.”

”Wei is no more.”

”Now the Wu’an Military Camp of Qin has withdrawn from Wei and returned to Yunzhong City.”

”The Land of the Three Jins now fully belongs to Qin.”

A minister responsible for intelligence from the Yan Kingdom stood in the grand hall, reporting gravely.

On high.

The face of King Xi of Yan looked very unpleasant.

Most of the ministers of Yan in the court looked equally grim.

”Great King.”

”Now with Wei destroyed by Qin, and the Wu’an Military Camp of Qin stationed at Yunzhong, will Qin make a move against our Yan?”

”If Qin moves against our Yan, I’m afraid we cannot match Qin.”

”Please make a decision, Great King.”

The minister of Yan in the court immediately spoke.

”Our Yan’s national power is weak, even inferior to Wei. If Qin attacks us, we cannot withstand it.”

”This matter requires immediate decision.”

...

One after another, the ministers started to speak up.

For them.

At this moment, there was a sense of impending national ruin.

Facing the Zhao state, even though Yan’s troops were constantly retreating, they still had hope. But if Qin really attacked, they would have no hope at all.

”Has the turmoil in Chu resolved by now?” King Xi of Yan asked somberly.

”Responding to the Great King.”

”The new Minister Li Yuan has already taken control of Chu’s military and political power and established a new king.”

”Chu has now settled down.” A minister replied.

”Send someone to Chu, present national gifts.”

”Convey our Yan’s intention to ally with Chu.”

”Furthermore.”

”Send envoys to Qi, conveying our Yan’s intention to form an alliance.” King Xi of Yan said solemnly.

”The great king’s wisdom.”

”With alliances between Yan and Qi-Chu, Qin wouldn’t dare attack us.”

”The great king’s wisdom...”

The ministers in the hall shouted in agreement.

”Besides forming alliances with the two countries.”

”There’s another important matter.”

”Issue my decree.”

”The generals guarding the border must restrain their soldiers and avoid any friction with Qin.”

”If we want to preserve our kingdom of Yan, we must not give Qin justifiable reasons to act.”

”Once Qin has an excuse, even with Qi and Chu’s support, they would have no reason to send troops.” King Xi instructed seriously.

”The great king’s wisdom.” The ministers again shouted in unison.

Justifiable reasons!

Were extremely important in this era.

Especially for King Xi, as he witnessed the complete destruction of the Three Jins.

This made King Xi feel uneasy.

When Han was destroyed.

Qin’s reason for sending troops was Han’s provocation, assisting Zhao against Qin.

This was true.

And when attacking the Zhao state.

King Xi was clearer about this reason, as he personally decreed to give Qin justifiable reasons.

Seeking Qin’s help as an ally, requesting Qin to send troops to save his kingdom of Yan, Qin first sent several national mandates to Zhao, ordering them to withdraw troops from Yan, using reason and emotion.

Ultimately.

After continuous pleas from Yan, Qin sent troops.

As for the destruction of Wei.

This was a calamity sown by Wei itself.

In the past, Qin moved troops to attack Zhao, and Wei responded to Zhao by sending troops against Qin.

This point.

Wei couldn’t avoid.

This allowed Qin justifiable reasons to attack and destroy Wei.

Other countries didn’t have reasons to send troops to assist Wei, because once they did, they might become the next Wei.

Therefore, King Xi was very cautious now, as long as he didn’t give Qin an excuse to act against Yan, then Qi and Chu would definitely not stand by and watch Qin destroy his kingdom of Yan.

The court meeting concluded!

Inside the Yan King’s Palace.

”What has the Crown Prince been doing lately?”

King Xi asked Qing Qin before him.

”Responding to the Great King.”

”The Crown Prince has been staying at his residence lately but went out a few times for hunting in the mountains.” Qing Qin immediately replied.

”As long as he can stay out of trouble, everything will be fine.” King Xi nodded reassuringly.

After the past incident of sending troops to seize the Zhao state city, and clashing with Qin troops.

Regarding this son.

King Xi was naturally very disappointed.

Of course.

Even though his agreement played a part in the cause, as a king, how could he admit it was his mistake?

”Please rest assured, Great King.”

”I will closely monitor the Crown Prince’s actions.” Qing Qin said.

”After so much time has passed, the Crown Prince should’ve matured, no need to pay too much attention.”

”Today I summoned the general.”

”Still because of Qin.”

”Now that Qin has completely annexed the Land of the Three Jins, its national power is soaring.”

”Although our Yan is weak, its military must not decline.”

”I hope the Senior General can recruit at least two hundred thousand more troops.” King Xi spoke seriously.

”Great King.”

”Our Yan currently fields a national army of four hundred thousand, which is nearly the limit our Yan can bear. Recruiting another two hundred thousand would not only affect agricultural land cultivation but also increase the depletion of our national power.”

”I believe it’s not possible.” Qing Qin immediately said.

Raising an army!

It’s not so simple.

And King Xi straightforwardly asked for an army of two hundred thousand, which would require an enormous national power expenditure.

”Qin must be guarded against.”

”If Qin recklessly ignores other countries and attacks our Yan, at least we can resist.”

”With four hundred thousand troops, it’s impossible to stop them.”

”As for national power...” King Xi firmly said: ”Starting today, our Yan will increase taxes by ten percent.”

”Great King.”

”Our Yan’s current tax rate is already seventy percent.” Qing Qin’s face changed.
