My Youth Began With Him

Huo Mian nodded. “Let me be straight with you, Mom… you should go out and walk around the city when you have time. Tell Auntie Wu and the others to keep an eye out for quality men around your age, I don’t want you to spend the rest of your life alone… Living by yourself is really lonely, and you’re not used to living with Qin Chu and I. I know you also don’t want to live with Zhixin, so after a while… you’ll feel lonely. No matter how well we treat you, you still need a man who can take care of you… So I really hope you can find one who can love you, protect you, and spend the rest of his life with you…”

Upon hearing what Huo Mian said, Yang Meirong looked dumbstruck. “What crazy talk is this?”

“Mom… this isn’t crazy talk, and you shouldn’t be embarrassed. I understand what you’re going through… Zhixin and I love you for opening a grocery store and taking care of us after Uncle Jing died… I want you to find yourself someone to be with not because I don’t want to spend time with you… I just want you to be happier.”

“I’m too old for relationships… it’ll be embarrassing if word got out… It might hurt you and Qin Chu’s reputations…” Yang Meirong sighed heavily. Truth be told, she thought about finding herself a boyfriend. Back then, when her neighbors suggested that she put herself out there and date, she refused because her children were still young and she didn’t want them to feel neglected.

Now that Huo Mian and Zhixin were all grown up, she really didn’t have to worry about them anymore. However, for some reason, she was too embarrassed to date. She felt like she would be ruining her daughter’s reputation and dating was just something a woman of her age couldn’t do.

Moreover, her son-in-law was such a successful young entrepreneur, she shouldn’t be a burden on him…

All in all, she worried so much that she decided to just not date at all. She never thought that Huo Mian would bring this up…

“Mom… it’s the 21st century, you’re not going to ruin our reputations… Isn’t it normal to care for elders? Plus… those who hire prostitutes and ruin others’ marriages are the ones who are morally wrong and ruining their reputations… Your husband died when you were young, so why can’t you find yourself a compatible man? Don’t listen to others… Anyways, Zhixin and I support you… if Auntie Wu and Auntie Liu want to set you up again, just go and meet him. Don’t refuse right away.”

“I can’t, I…”

Before Yang Meirong could finish her sentence, Huo Mian immediately changed the subject, “Mom… I’m a little hungry.”

“I’ll go make dinner, what do you want you to eat?”

“Your radish meatball soup…” Huo Mian looked at her mother with puppy dog eyes.

“Okay, I’ll make you some pancakes and radish meatball soup…”

As soon as Huo Mian said she was hungry, Yang Meirong immediately ran into the kitchen.

Huo Mian felt like her attempt at brainwashing her mother was decently successful; she really wanted her mother to put aside public opinion and place her own happiness before others’.

But her mother was so traditional… Huo Mian probably had to talk to her again, since it was unlikely that Yang Meirong would immediately agree to dating.

Huo Mian played with her phone as she munched on fruit.

Suddenly, a piece of news caught her attention…

‘Breaking news – a well-known GK artist, Mr. Wang, is being detained at the police station for getting into a fight… According to our sources, his movie, which is scheduled to be released tomorrow, has been banned by the State Administration of Radio, Film, and Television.’

After reading this, Huo Mian’s heart sank.

Then, she read the netizens’ comments, “I heard Imperial Star’s the Drawing of the Country and Beauty is being released tomorrow as well. I wonder if GK’s scandal is real or if they’re being framed… Maybe Imperial Star did this.”

Some other netizens cursed at Su Yu, “Su Yu, you’re so despicable, stop ruining Qin Chu’s reputation!”

While Huo Mian read through the comments, she received a message from WeChat…

“Mian, did a celebrity from your company really get into a fight?” The message was from Xiaowei; she wasn’t someone who paid attention to entertainment news, but Huo Mian felt like things were more complicated than they seemed since Xiaowei was asking her about it.

“Xiaowei… did you hear something?” Huo Mian reacted fast and replied to Xiaowei’s question with a question of her own…
