My Youth Began With Him

”I was scared that you would be worried,” Gao Ran said as he quietly followed Zhu Lingling.

”But I’m still worried, even if you just told me. What kind of logic is this, pig-brain cop…?” Zhu Lingling glared at Gao Ran as she blamed him.

She was wearing a long black cashmere coat, with a knot tied around her waist.

She paired that with mid-length leather boots and looked very sexy as she walked…

Her complexion was fair; she wasn’t staggeringly beautiful, but her looks still turned heads.

Most importantly, in an era where most women underwent plastic surgery, natural beauty like Zhu Lingling was highly impressionable.

The truth was, Gao Ran had a thing for Zhu Lingling ever since high school, but the latter was short-tempered.

Therefore, Gao Ran never admitted her feelings towards her in fear that things would become awkward if she rejected him, and that they wouldn’t even be able to be friends.

Therefore, they just stayed friends…

On the other hand, Zhu Lingling thought that Gao Ran disliked her, so she never even thought about him that way.

Over the past few years, she dated a lot of men, but none of her relationships had a happily-forever-after…

Today, after all that, they were both single. The more they spent time together, the more feelings they developed for each other.

Huo Mian was right; they were super close to dating…

”Hey, how can you be walking so fast with heels as high as yours? I’m speechless,” Gao Ran mumbled behind Zhu Lingling.

”Do you speak human? These aren’t that high, they’re only 5 centimeters. Have you ever seen 7-centimeter heels?” Zhu Lingling retorted.

They soon arrived outside the VIP ICU on the top floor.

Huo Mian and Qin Chu were in separate rooms, away from each other. The Qin Family was standing outside his.

Song Yishi kept wiping off tears with a handkerchief as if she were his wife.

Annoyed, Zhu Lingling asked, ”What does it have anything to do with her?”

”She came with his parents, so I couldn’t just chase her away… she has the right to see him.”

They talked as they walked towards Huo Mian’s room…

As soon as they arrived outside, Zhu Lingling immediately rushed in, but she saw Huo Siqian tucking Huo Mian in, his expression as gentle as ever… leaving her dumbstruck.

If she didn’t see his expression with her own eyes, she would never have believed that Huo Siqian would be one that treated Huo Mian with such tenderness, as if he was really her big brother…

Upon seeing Zhu Lingling come in, Huo Siqian didn’t show a hint of embarrassment or unease; instead, he got up and headed towards the door. ”Since you guys are here, I’ll be going then.”

Gao Ran nodded…

After Huo Siqian left, Zhu Lingling put down her bag and took off her jacket. Then, she walked up to Huo Mian.

She was wearing a hospital gown, lying pale and unconscious on the bed.

”Damn it… What the hell… those godforsaken kidnappers. When you execute them, remember to shoot as many times as you can and aim for their heads, they’re so inhumane…” Zhu Lingling’s heart ached for Huo Mian upon seeing how frail she was.

All these years, neither of them had seen her so fragile.

Gao Ran scratched his nose and didn’t say anything… He didn’t plan on telling her that the kidnappers confessed that they beat Huo Mian up because she wouldn’t talk to Qin Chu over the phone and that they almost drowned her to death by tying her up and dunking her into a giant bucket…

Huo Mian really did suffer inhuman treatment…

”Has she been asleep this entire time?” Zhu Lingling put Huo Mian’s hand in her own and looked at Gao Ran.

”She woke up once but was really emotional and almost broke down the OR door like a crazy person trying to see Qin Chu.”

”She cares too much about him.”

”I didn’t think that Huo Mian loved Qin Chu this much,” Gao Ran smoothed out the back of his head; Huo Mian’s behavior this time truly left surprised him.

”It’s because you’re an idiot. It takes Mian a while to warm up to someone, and you will never be able to tell how much she cares about a person from the surface because she’s a person of her actions. Last time, she went to see a traditional Chinese doctor with me because she was worried about not getting pregnant. The doctor prescribed her with a bunch of foul-smelling Chinese medicine, but she sucked it up and drank it three times a day. She would drink, throw up, drink, and throw up again, all to give Qin Chu a child,” Zhu Lingling said quietly.

Gao Ran was a bit touched as well. ”She sure is determined.”

”What did you think she was? If Huo Mian didn’t love Qin Chu, do you think she would’ve done all that for him?” Zhu Lingling asked.

”But Qin Chu might not even wake up…”

Upon hearing what Gao Ran said, Zhu Lingling’s expression became ghastly… Stunned, she turned around and looked at him. ”What… did you say?”
