Naruto: The Medical Ninja

Chapter 156: Chapter 155: Planning Something Big

Ryu gave his semester exam for Apprentice and was 1st among the students.

”Congratulations, Ryu,” Nono Yakushi said, ”you ranked 1st in the exam.”

”Thank you, Nono-sensei,” Ryu replied.

Nono said, ”You really mastered [Healing Hand Jutsu] in a few months. I am really proud to have a student like you.”

Ryu smiled and said, ”It’s all thanks to your teaching.”

Nono replied, ”Oh, don’t downplay your efforts. I have one more piece of good news for you.”

Ryu curiously asked, ”What?”

Nono replied, ”You know, last time I and Dr. Yuki tried to talk about your early promotion, the medical council outright refused us without even listening to our explanation.”

Ryu asked, ”Did they have any reason as to why they would refuse it? I am giving the same exam as others, just early.”.

Nono replied, ”They were not ready to give early promotion to medical professionals, citing that it would decrease the quality of the medical professionals.”

Ryu thought and said, ”Well, if I think broadly, they are not wrong. Just to save a year or two for someone, they were not going to risk the medical profession. I know I wouldn’t.”

Nono replied, ”Yes. I understand your sentiment. But we need to try. You already are better than an actual apprentice.”

Ryu replied, ”Even so, I do not require early promotion. I will be an apprentice next year.”

Nono said, ”Even so, we have to try. Not for you but for ourselves. If you are promoted sooner, we can work alongside you sooner.”

Nono continued, ”Anyway, the good news is that they agreed with many conditions.”

”Conditions? What conditions?” Ryu asked.

Nono explained, ”The first condition was that you achieved 1st rank with full marks in the semester exam, which you did. I waited for the results before informing you of this. If you hadn’t scored full marks, this news would have been irrelevant, and I wouldn’t have mentioned it.”

”Are there other conditions?” Ryu asked.

Nono replied, ”The second condition, however, is the research paper. Apprentices are not supposed to give research papers, but you are to submit two research papers in different subjects. They want to make sure that you are as talented as we present. Maybe they also share your sentiment regarding early promotion of medical professionals.”

She continued, ”From what I have heard, the Hokage personally recommended you. He guaranteed your talent to the medical council and convinced them to allow you to give an early promotion exam. They couldn’t say no to the hokage, so they set the bar really high so that no one in the future may ask for an early promotion.”

Ryu replied, ”Just two research papers? That’s a piece of cake for me.”

Nono was dumbfounded. She said, ”Easy!! One needs years of research for just one. How will you come up with two?”

Ryu smiled and said, ”I wasn’t planning to graduate early as I have so much going on, but now that you have presented it as a challenge, my reputation is also at stake in front of this so-called medical council. I am going to do it, and I am going to make it legendary.”

”Just watch me, nono-sensei. I will have my first research paper ready by the end of the month,” Ryu said.

Nono smiled and said, ”Well, I expected as much. I was there for your final exam. I know you like to make it grand.”

She then asked, ”So, in what subject are you planning to present the research papers?”

Ryu thought for a few seconds, ”Well, how about microbiology and oncology?”

Dr. Nono Yakushi replied, ”Are you out of your mind? There hasn’t been a significant discovery in those fields for the past two decades, except for Yukimira. You’ve chosen the most challenging subjects for a research paper.”

Ryu replied, May be worse or the best. That depends on how you look at it. If it’s that difficult, then I would be able to impress them with just a minor research paper.

Nono Yakushi asked, ”But you are not planning minor, are you?”

Ryu replied, ”No, I am not, but I will need your help.”

Nono said, ”Anything you want. What do you need?”

Ryu replied, ”I will need mice infected with scarlet fever, throat infection caused by bacteria, and, most importantly, tuberculosis. Can you arrange for these lab animals and set up a lab within a week?”

Nono asked, ”What have you discovered about effective treatment?”

Ryu replied, ”Yes, I was studying the chemical structure of the bacteria and came up with a solution while working on some other project in the company’s lab. I am pretty sure it will work wonders.

”I will assist you,” Nono said excitedly.

Other drugs, including newly discovered Yukimira, were not effective against tuberculosis, so Nono was very excited.

”Do not worry; I will refrain from including my name in your research paper. Dr. Yuki has already helped me enough. I just want to be a part of it.” No, no, assured.

”If you are going to assist me, you can have your name on the papers.” Ryu said.

”Then I will list my name as an assistant only.” Nono Yakushi replied.

Ryu thanked her and went home; on the way, he was thinking about the research papers. He had many saved in his [Mind Palace] from his past life. But he was thinking about his expansion plans for the company.

”I need to set up a big plant near the shore. But it would come at a great cost. Land alone will cost more than anything I have right now.” Ryu thought.

He asked himself, ”How do I arrange funds for it? [Passive Barrier] and [ReflexGard] are generating big profits, but that won’t be enough.”

He kept thinking about it along the way home. He thought, ’I think [Healing Seal] will do. I was not planning to make any fuinjutsu seal this soon so as to not raise suspicion and ire of the other grandmasters.’

He reached home and was greeted by Dan. He saw Ryu’s thoughtful expression and asked, ”Ohh, Ryu, what is the matter?”

Ryu said, ”I am planning an industrial expansion. I need to set up a manufacturing unit for the solar paint I last talked to you about and the sodium battery.”

”The shops I have, you used some for your workshop, but there are still many left that I have rented out. Wouldn’t that be enough?” Dan asked.

Ryu replied, ”No. It’s not big enough because I regularly need a huge amount of salt for it to work. It needs to be near shores. Otherwise, transport costs will increase.”

Suddenly, he had a brilliant idea. ”Transport!” he exclaimed, struck by a moment of inspiration related to transportation.

He smiled like the God of Mischief when Dan asked, ”You are again planning something big, aren’t you?” Dan asked, acknowledging Ryu’s tendency for grand ideas.

Ryu, ”Yes. I just thought of something new. It will require some time also, but in the long run, it will be a very successful venture for our company.”

Dan smiled and said, ”Go ahead and do what you think is best. I have complete faith in every decision you make,” showing his unwavering support.

”Thanks, Grandpa,” Ryu replied.

Ryu then said, ”Grandpa, let’s make a new seal. I know we agreed on no seal for a year. but I think it’s enough time. We need money. the seal I have in mind It will also establish to you an alibi that the seals are definitely your creations.”

”What seal are you planning?” Dan asked.

”[Healing Seal] co-created by Dan Hamura, the most talented Fuinjutsu Grandmaster in Leaf Village, and Dr. Yuki Sarutobi, the most talented researcher who even taught the Legendary Slug Princess... How does it sound?” Ryu said

Dan’s eyes twitch with the grandiose advertisement of the product, which for him had hints of sarcasm.

”Healing seal? That’s a good idea. I can guess functionality just from the name. Like always, you are straightforward with the names.” Dan replied.

”Yes, it aligns with my dream of saving lives.” Ryu said.

Dan replied, ”Right. If Yuki and I are going to share the creation of this seal, it will be more believable. I have no expertise in healing, and Yuki has no expertise in fuinjutsu.”

Dan continued, ”It will be a record, earning a name for fuinjutsu creation without even being a sealmaster. It will also be a lifesaver for the ninjas without a medical ninja in the team.”

”With this seal on missions, accidents related to medical emergencies will decrease significantly,” Ryu said.

”You are right. It will sell like hot cakes. But wouldn’t it affect the earnings of medical ninjas? In the long run, medical ninjas will decrease in number due to this seal.” Dan stressed.

”Well, not exactly. This seal will always need a medical ninja,” Ryu said. ”I will explain later. The demand for medical ninjas may increase slightly due to the safe environment this seal provides.”
