The Frail Guide Who Devoured an Entire Pollution Zone

Chapter 36: Chapter 36: Do Me a Favor

Seeing Xu Qingsui still staring at him without blinking, Lu Jingyu couldn’t help but feel his cheeks burn.

He fanned his cheeks to cool himself down and asked again, ”Is there something on my face?”

Xu Qingsui snapped back to her senses, a playful feeling suddenly bubbling up. She said deliberately, ”No, it’s just that I suddenly feel you’re more than just Captain Lu of the Heiyu Alliance! You must have some other, more famous title.”

Faced with Xu Qingsui’s probing, Lu Jingyu was slightly stunned, but he returned to normal in an instant.

His fleeting change didn’t escape Xu Qingsui’s eyes. She confirmed her suspicions. ’Just what is this identity Lu Jingyu is hiding?’

”Here, I am just Lu Jingyu, the captain of the Heiyu Alliance.” Lu Jingyu didn’t refute her, because he knew no lie could deceive Xu Qingsui.

But he didn’t reveal his identity either. He knew Xu Qingsui wouldn’t press the matter.

Sure enough, after hearing Lu Jingyu’s reply, Xu Qingsui just smiled faintly.

”If there’s nothing else, I’ll be heading back now.”

”Wait, this is for you!” Lu Jingyu called out to Xu Qingsui, opening his hand to reveal an exquisite-looking brocade box.

Xu Qingsui took the box suspiciously. Instead of opening it, she gave Lu Jingyu a questioning look.

”It’s an elixir that nourishes spiritual power. It will be good for increasing your spiritual power.”

Hearing Lu Jingyu’s words, Xu Qingsui was startled and immediately tried to shove the box back at him.

Medical supplies were already extremely scarce, and this kind of elixir that could raise attribute values was a true treasure.

’I can’t accept a reward I haven’t earned,’ especially not for a priceless treasure like this.

Lu Jingyu seemed to have guessed she would try to return it and immediately dodged away.

”If I’m giving it to you, just take it. You’ve saved my life so many times. One elixir in exchange for my life... I’m the one who’s getting the better deal.”

”Besides, you’ve already joined the Heiyu Alliance. I’ll probably have to trouble you again in the future. You deserve it.”

”If you really feel bad about it...”

Lu Jingyu trailed off, just like he had when facing Xu Qingsui the other day.

”Hm?” Xu Qingsui made a questioning sound. ’If it’s not about Xu Ruming, what is it that he finds so hard to say?’

”If you still feel bad, then I hope you can do me a favor next time!”

”What favor?” Seeing Lu Jingyu’s fidgety appearance, Xu Qingsui grew even more curious.

Lu Jingyu opened his mouth, and Xu Qingsui could even see his tongue twisting around inside.

But in the end, all he said was, ”It’s nothing difficult, really. When I need you next time, I’ll tell you then!”

”But you don’t need to feel pressured. Even if you’re not willing to help when the time comes, I’ll understand. I won’t say anything.”

’It seems Lu Jingyu isn’t going to say it plainly.’

Xu Qingsui sighed helplessly and finally tucked the brocade box away.

She couldn’t resist the allure of the elixir either, telling herself that she would do her best to help Lu Jingyu with his troubles and assist him with that favor he couldn’t bring himself to name.

Seeing that she wasn’t needed for the moment, Xu Qingsui returned to her quarters.

Once inside her room, she couldn’t wait to take out the brocade box.

She opened the box with great excitement, and an unusual fragrance immediately wafted out.

[Good stuff. Congratulations, Host, on obtaining one Treasure Spirit Pill.]

Even the Golden Octopus was lured out.

”You recognize this elixir?” Xu Qingsui, who had just been worrying that there was no one to explain it to her, instantly widened her eyes.

[This is a treasure-grade Yunling Pill. It can significantly increase the user’s spiritual power. The exact degree depends on the user’s absorption of the Yunling Pill.]

Xu Qingsui’s eyes lit up. ’Isn’t this exactly what I needed?’

She had previously been thinking about absorbing the spirit bodies of Mutants to increase her spiritual power when the other members weren’t looking.

But she never found the opportunity in the end, which she found quite regrettable.

’Isn’t this a timely gift?’

However, Xu Qingsui also had some reservations.

’Things like elixirs aren’t always completely beneficial and harmless!’

After all, from ancient times to the present, regardless of the world, many people have pursued all sorts of elixirs.

And facts have proven that elixirs can lead to success, but they can also bring life to an end.

If she couldn’t withstand this elixir, wouldn’t it be a case of extreme joy turning into sorrow?

Xu Qingsui didn’t dare to act rashly and hurriedly asked, ”Does this elixir have any side effects? Can I take it?”

[Although this item is called a Yunling Pill, it’s actually a cage that has imprisoned the spirit body of a high-level Mutant.]

[For the Host, it can be considered an excellent tonic. The Host can consume it without worry.]

Xu Qingsui was overjoyed and could hardly wait to take it.

[And there is a chance to gain attribute values.]

The Golden Octopus had completely stoked Xu Qingsui’s anticipation.

Without further thought, she immediately swallowed the elixir in one gulp.

As the elixir went down her throat, Xu Qingsui felt a warm current flow down her gullet.

Immediately after, her mind felt as if it had been struck, and a vast expanse of chaos appeared.

Unlike the mist in her mind from before, she felt something within the chaos calling to her.

The call grew clearer, like a spell that made her disregard all safety, wanting only to investigate.

Ignoring the chaos before her, she groped her way toward its depths.

Following the summons’s guidance, the sound of rumbling thunder gradually became clear.

Unlike the sound of a startling thunderclap, she could actually hear a note of sorrow in this rumbling.

Realizing there was something more to this thunder, Xu Qingsui quickened her pace, wanting to get to the bottom of it faster.

As the sound of thunder grew louder, a blurry figure finally appeared within the chaos.

Xu Qingsui squinted, studying it for a long time, and vaguely made out that it was a figure with two giant wings.

It was prostrated on the ground, unable to struggle to its feet, like a large, injured bird.

The intermittent thunder was already deafening, but it couldn’t suppress her curiosity.

She felt a warm, wet sensation in her ears but paid it no mind.

She waved her hands in front of her as if trying to dispel the chaos.

It was unclear whether her actions were truly having an effect, but the figure grew clearer and clearer.

Finally rushing forward, Xu Qingsui at last got a clear view of the massive figure.

She slowly raised her head, tilting it back, to see the great bird’s full form.

It was a great bird, crimson all over, but with a pair of ink-black wings upon which arcs of lightning faintly flickered.

Even with the great bird lying prostrate on the ground, its massive body was still as tall as a house.

Its two legs were crushed beneath its body, with only a few segments of its claws visible, yet even they were as thick as a person’s forearm.

The great bird’s neck was slumped, its head resting on the ground. Its fist-sized eyes also flashed with lightning.

It had a large, sharp beak, the tip of which was slightly hooked. Two spheres the size of ping-pong balls protruded from its surface.

The great beak twitched, and the spheres vibrated constantly, emitting the rumbling thunder.

Seeing Xu Qingsui, the great bird struggled to get up, but before it could lift itself even half an inch off the ground, it fell heavily back down.
