The Frail Guide Who Devoured an Entire Pollution Zone

Chapter 6: Chapter 6: Rules Are Not Made for the Strong

”AWOOOO~”

The Orca Whale’s roars grew increasingly shrill, and the blue door became more and more blinding. It was a classic case of being caught between a rock and a hard place.

”I’ll hold it off! You all protect the guide and get out of here!”

With no way to retreat, Lu Jingyu’s eyes instantly filled with resolve.

As he spoke, he pushed Xu Qingsui toward the other team members with one hand while pulling out his gun and aiming it at the Orca Whale with the other.

”Go regroup at the palace from before. If you don’t see me in an hour, find a way to clear this instance as fast as you can! CRACK!”

Lu Jingyu pulled the trigger. The bullet seemed to move in slow motion through the water, eventually striking the Orca Whale’s head.

Due to the water resistance and the Orca Whale’s thick hide, the bullet failed to pierce its skin, but it did slow the creature’s movements slightly.

”Go, now!”

Lu Jingyu knew the bullet’s effect wouldn’t last long. He turned and roared at the others.

His gaze fell involuntarily upon Xu Qingsui, and a thought quietly surfaced.

’She absolutely cannot be harmed!’

”You must protect the guide! That’s an order!”

”Yes, sir! We’ll carry out the order to the death!”

As an SSS level sentinel, Lu Jingyu was already a supreme existence in the hearts of his team members.

No one dared to hesitate now, preparing to protect Xu Qingsui’s retreat with their lives.

”It’s too late!”

But just as they were about to leave with Xu Qingsui, she stared straight ahead and uttered three words.

Following her gaze, the team saw a colossal, ink-black wave rising up, bringing with it an overwhelming pressure that crashed down on them.

As they struggled against the pressure, they noticed something churning within the massive wave.

Although they couldn’t see clearly what was happening, their instincts screamed that danger was approaching.

The team members, including Lu Jingyu, were bewildered, but Xu Qingsui understood perfectly.

The Orca Whale was hidden in the giant wave, and it had already begun to mutate.

The already enormous Orca Whale swelled up in an instant, like an overinflated balloon, growing several times its original size.

It barred their path like a wall of bronze and iron.

A mere flick of its massive fin stirred up a monstrous wave.

It opened its massive maw, revealing fangs as thick as an adult’s thigh. A single one of those fangs could impale a grown man.

Its huge body arched slightly, coiling to strike.

”If you break the instance rules, will you definitely be eradicated?” Despite having killed the blue-ringed octopus earlier, Xu Qingsui didn’t dare to be overconfident.

Her attention turned to the blue door, and she began to question the Golden Octopus.

[’Theoretically, yes. Unless you’re so powerful that rules don’t apply to you.’]

’How can it be in the mood to joke at a time like this!’

That path was a dead end. Xu Qingsui decided to ignore the Golden Octopus.

She stared at the mutated Orca Whale. The surrounding seawater had begun to churn—a prelude to the whale’s attack.

’I was just reborn into this world. It’s not a great world, sure, but to die again so soon... I have to at least put up a fight.’

She recalled the scene of killing the blue-ringed octopus and began to wonder if she could pull off the same trick again.

[’The rules of the instance apply to the people who enter it, but they also apply to the creatures within it.’]

Xu Qingsui had stopped paying attention to the Golden Octopus, but it hadn’t stopped talking.

Its words made Xu Qingsui’s eyes light up again.

”AWOO~”

With a deafening roar, the coiled Orca Whale finally launched its attack.

Seeing the enormous body bearing down on them, Xu Qingsui grabbed Lu Jingyu with one hand and the team member closest to her with the other, retreating toward the blue door.

”No! We’ll be eradicated!”

Lu Jingyu’s pupils dilated as he tried to stop her.

”Trust me!”

Xu Qingsui looked into his bloodshot eyes and said softly.

Lu Jingyu didn’t know what came over him, but those two simple words instantly soothed his agitated heart.

”Everyone, fall back! Back to the door!” Xu Qingsui shouted to the others.

The other team members were clearly more worried about the rules and refused to move.

The team member Xu Qingsui was holding tried to pull free, only to find that this guide, famous for her Spiritual Power, possessed a surprisingly strong grip.

”Fall back to the door!” Lu Jingyu had chosen to trust Xu Qingsui after all.

The team members didn’t dare disobey Lu Jingyu’s command and had no choice but to retreat.

In the span of a breath, they were all pressed against the blue door. One more step and they would be doomed beyond redemption.

The giant wave crashed down, and the team finally got a clear look at the mutated Orca Whale.

’It’s over! We’re dead either way!’

”Scatter to the sides! Get as far away as you can!”

Just as some were preparing to fight the Orca Whale to the death, Xu Qingsui spoke again.

As she ran, she used all her strength to shove Lu Jingyu and the other team members to the opposite side.

By this point, the Orca Whale had reached the blue door. Even though it realized its targets had scattered, it couldn’t stop its momentum.

BANG!

With a tremendous crash, the Orca Whale slammed straight into the blue door.

To avoid being caught in the aftermath, Xu Qingsui dove to the ground and used the force to slide away.

When she steadied herself, she saw the Orca Whale’s body slowly disappearing into the blue door.

Phew~

A wave of post-disaster relief washed over her, and Xu Qingsui’s entire body went limp, collapsing to the ground.

[’What a pity. For you, in your current state, devouring the Spiritual Power of a Mutant would have greatly increased your own spiritual power, helping you take another step on the path to defying the rules.’]

The Golden Octopus piped up again. Hearing its words, Xu Qingsui watched the gradually vanishing Orca Whale, and her heart was moved.

Having lived through the Apocalypse in her previous life, she knew full well that only by becoming powerful enough could she survive in a world like this.

She couldn’t miss any opportunity to improve herself.

”So, can I still do something now?” Xu Qingsui asked, eager to try.

[’You can, but the eradication process has already begun on this Mutant. You have to enter its Sea of Consciousness and find its spirit body before it’s completely wiped out.’]

[’Otherwise, you’ll be eradicated along with it.’]

Xu Qingsui stared at the Orca Whale and, after a moment, slowly reached out and touched its skin.

With a sensation of being pulled away, she found herself in a vast, misty sea.

Racing against time, she quickly released her spiritual power and sensed the location of the Orca Whale’s power.

She looked at the giant heart before her, which had stopped beating and was now leaking power. She greedily breathed it in.

Perhaps because the Orca Whale was being eradicated, Xu Qingsui felt that the power she was absorbing was much weaker than that from the blue-ringed octopus.

Just as she was about to leave in disappointment, a stream of blue fluorescent light shot toward her from afar.

An immense power came with it. Faced with this sudden force, Xu Qingsui couldn’t tell if it was friend or foe, and she had no desire to stay here and be buried with this Orca Whale.

Xu Qingsui immediately prepared to give up and leave the Orca Whale’s Sea of Consciousness.

But the moment she tried to move, her eyes widened.

She couldn’t move, as if she were bound by something.

In her moment of shock, the blue light was already upon her.

With no way to dodge, she was instantly enveloped by the blue light.
