She Lives without Regret in This Life

”You really should get married,” the Duke of Westminster said with satisfaction. ”The family is eager for you to marry soon.”

Beiate’s enthusiasm seemed doused with a bucket of ice water, and he immediately lost all passion. Known as a famous playboy in all of England, it was impossible for him to consider marriage.

”You should hurry up and acknowledge your nephew!” Beiate scoffed, ”I can’t wait to meet my nephew.”

”It’s not possible to approach!” the Duke of Westminster said calmly. ”Moreover, I don’t want to scare the child, so I can’t use aggressive methods.” As he spoke, his gaze fell on Sheng Ning’s face opposite him, a gentle light appearing in his azure eyes.

The matter had been thoroughly investigated. This woman was very good, very good. The only dissatisfaction he had was that she had arranged a childhood betrothal for the noble future Little Duke.

”By the way! I heard that my nephew has been promised in a childhood betrothal.”

Beiate really knew how to hit the sore spot, mentioning it even though he knew the Duke wasn’t pleased with the outcome, which instantly earned him a glare. Amber, who had been standing behind with her head lowered, quickly looked up to apologize when the childhood betrothal was mentioned.

”I’m sorry, Your Grace.”

”Was it you who said it?”

”Yes, Your Grace, I was just too excited. The thought of the young master having a childhood betrothal, heavens! It’s such a romantic thing.”

It must be said that the English were born with a romantic gene, even the stern and conservative Amber was no exception. This truly was a nation of contradictions: on the one hand, their meticulousness was world-famous, and on the other, their gentlemanly demeanor and pursuit of romantic ambiance were also renowned.

”Not just anyone is fit for my son.”

The Duke’s words immediately sobered Amber from her fantasies, ”Yes! Your Grace.”

Beiate gloated, ”You’re such an incompetent father; shouldn’t you be worried about how to win your son’s heart? If I were the nephew, I wouldn’t bother with you.”

This made the Duke’s expression even more unsightly, his handsome and well-defined face covered in frost.

”Your Grace, Daives is here.”

”Come in.”

”Yes!”

The door to the private room was pushed open, and the tall Daives strode in, kneeling on one knee before the Duke to perform a servant’s etiquette upon meeting his lord.

”Rise.”

”Thank you, Your Grace.” Daives respectfully stood up, keeping his head bowed, not daring to meet the eyes of the person opposite.

”I’ve read all your letters. The Victoria Theater is an elegant legacy of our family and must continue to be promoted.”

The meaning was clear: not only should it remain open, but it should be open regardless of the cost. No matter how much money it took, the theater had to be done well.

”Yes!” Daives shuddered inside, filled with gratitude.

Luckily, it hadn’t been shut down; otherwise, he would have been finished.

”I didn’t call you here to discuss other matters. I have something to ask you.”

”Please, Your Grace, go ahead.” Daives remained respectful. Given his position and responsibilities, there was no need for the Duke to handle matters personally. On his way here, his heart had been filled with apprehension, afraid that a slight misstep would anger the Duke.

”Do you know Lin En?” Amber eagerly asked.

Daives paused, thinking for a long time before remembering who Lin En was. ”Oh, oh... I know this little boy, he is Lin Lisha’s illegitimate child...”
