She Lives without Regret in This Life

Capítulo 929: Chapter 975: Helping to Keep It Secret

“Hahaha…”

“Hehehe…” The old couple felt a bit awkward, having a capable son and a filial daughter-in-law willing to spend money on them. Such a good daughter-in-law is hard to find even with a lantern.

They actually aren’t greedy for this bit of wealth, nor are they blinded by money; the most important thing is that the daughter-in-law has the heart for it, which means more than anything.

They don’t have much expenses in the countryside. Zhao Lanzi’s ancestors were big landlords, and even though the family was confiscated and liberated later, a skinny camel is still bigger than a horse. The inherited belongings still hold some value.

Even though both the old couple seem to have poor farming skills, can’t cook, and appear to have poor relations with neighbors, their life isn’t bad. Plus, they have an only child who is a comrade. Being relatives brings better government subsidies than others.

“Mom, in the next few days, you all hang out around the city with An’an and have a good time.” Sheng Ning had already decided to stay with Xu Qigang.

Though it sounds like she’d ignore him, it was just a fit of anger; she’s really just tough-talking but soft-hearted and weak. Since she’s unavailable, she could ask Su Huai’an for help and arrange something, especially for some major attractions where comrade permits could ease access.

“How’s that possible! Qigang is still lying in bed, we wouldn’t have peace of mind going out to have fun.”

Sheng Ning hurriedly reassured them to avoid worrying the cheerful elderly, “Qigang is fine, don’t worry.” The real danger period has passed; the doctor said this morning that he just needs to recover slowly from now on.

Moreover, the Living Yama’s physical condition is good, recovering faster than usual.

“Really? Then why is he still in such a tightly guarded ward, not letting us in?”

Talking about this, Sheng Ning was quite speechless. As far as she knew, the reason Living Yama was confined in a special care ward was entirely due to the doctor’s punishment for him sneaking out of the hospital.

She was initially quite supportive of this punishment, considering how angry she was when he secretly smoked, and now sneaking out of the hospital—it’s really getting out of hand.

If he’s not punished, he might do something even scarier. But now the parents are worried, it’s important to consider the feelings of the elderly and things should be different.

“Alright then! Mom, you all go back with An’an this afternoon and have some rest. Anyway, Qigang is inside; he can’t come out and we can’t go in, having so many people here isn’t much use. I’ll stay here, and communicate with the doctor to see what’s really going on.”

Sheng Ning planned to first keep the son’s sneaky outing a secret for the Living Yama.

To prevent him from getting a beating from the father before his wounds heal, who knows, the doctor might be driven mad.

“You’ve worked hard these days, let us stay while you go back and rest for a while.”

“That’s right, sis. I can help keep watch too.”

“No way!” Sheng Ning firmly rejected, “I have a separate bed in Qigang’s ward, I can rest anytime I get tired. Dad and mom are getting older, can’t compare to young folks, and should certainly rest well.”

“What about me? I’m younger than you.”

“That’s even worse, you suffered just yesterday, if you don’t rest properly now, you’re bound to have nightmares tonight.”

An’an nervously stuck out her tongue, “Sis, you know about it?”

“What do I not know?” Sheng Ning retorted. Her serious demeanor was like a school’s teacher, leaving An’an unable to find a reason to argue back, thus obediently agreeing.
