Facing an Ancient God for a Year

Chapter 1024: Chapter 1022: Cass, a Man of His Word Chapter 1024: Chapter 1022: Cass, a Man of His Word Professor Lisa was very likely not human.

From the beginning, Fu Qian had a faint suspicion.

It was mainly about the motives of her appearance here.

Cass wouldn’t lie about such matters, the desire to obtain his opinion was undoubted.

Under such circumstances, his special request for Lisa to join him was quite puzzling.

The minor task of escorting him to the lab could have easily been done after the event.

It certainly wasn’t because the academic expedition was short of a waiter.

Moreover, there was the obviously contradictory attire of Professor Lisa.

Setting aside the matter of her aura, the thorough scrutiny Fu Qian had given her was mostly focused on Professor Lisa’s neck.

Amidst an academic-styled appearance, there was a glaringly bright black metal ring, which really didn’t match the style.

Additionally, although attempts had been made to disguise it, Fu Qian was very sure it was an Extraordinary Item.

An Extraordinary Item that one would insist on wearing despite ruining the overall aesthetic must be of considerable importance, it even irresistibly reminded one of suppression, transformation, and the like.

Perhaps it was with the aid of this item that Professor Lisa could maintain her current state.

After realizing this, Fu Qian decisively took on the role of an expert, showing concern for the female mentor’s learning experiences, which served both to verify and to cooperate.

And judging by Cass’s reaction, it was not just overthinking on his part.

Professor Lisa seemed especially sensitive to some topics concerning species.

To the point where she was still standing there stunned, looking as if she had been severely impacted.

Not being human herself, with likely a somewhat extreme self-positioning, this was Fu Qian’s judgment.

Cass bringing her in this time must be an attempt to use the contrast of this “noble and graceful” creature fallen into a giant maggot, to do some ideological work and help her establish the correct view of life.

And with his own guidance added, Professor Lisa obviously had an epiphany.

Now the only question was, if she wasn’t human, what exactly was she?

“Thank you, Professor Fu, for your guidance. I think I’ve gained a lot from this experience.”

Just as Fu Qian was curious, Lisa finally spoke up, with an air of enlightenment.

However, although she was thanking Fu Qian, her eyes were on Cass, clearly understanding the leader’s good intentions.

“So how old is Professor Fu really?”

In the next moment, Lisa turned her head toward him.

“The wisdom and experience in your words just now seem indispensable to me.”

Brilliant!

Truly an intellectual, flattering the boss, and reclaiming her position on the basis of age, killing two birds with one stone without leaving a trace.

Fu Qian couldn’t help but want to applaud.

Of course, that was not the most admirable part—the direction Lisa turned her head this time was the same as before.

That meant her neck had rotated far beyond four hundred degrees and had even leaned forward silently, less than twenty centimeters from his face.

I think I might know what species she is now… President Cass really trusts people!

Similar scenes, I had encountered them when I bravely explored the underground tunnels of the Rotten Forest in my youth.

Fu Qian’s first reaction was to dodge the face in front of him and look behind Lisa.

True to the form of a Water Snake, there was, without a doubt, nothing there that shouldn’t be.

“Really no tail, huh?”

The next moment, he looked at Cass with a face full of surprise.

The rumors of the Giant Serpent girl from Heaven’s Commencement Institute, it seems weren’t just bluffing after all.

…

The question emerged, and the two before me could be described as having both turned black-faced.

“Tail?”

Instinctively reaching a hand behind to cover herself, Lisa’s neck contorted further as she looked at Cass, her tone barely veiling her killing intent.

Not only did scaring people prove fruitless, but the first reaction from this guy upon seeing her appearance was this?

The conversation that must have happened behind her back was indeed leading to wild speculation.

“Uh, this, last time…”

It was apparent that Lisa’s status within the Heaven’s Commencement Institute was still high. Even the usually commanding and domineering President Cass was stammering caught in the act.

“Be careful!”

Luckily, the trio was already near the edge of the huge pit. In the midst of their conversation, a giant bat with light wings and covered in Bone Armor noticed them and lunged.

Thankfully, alerted by Fu Qian’s warning, Cass instantly became vigilant, as a black fire whip wrapped around the creature.

The methods of a Demigod were indeed magical. Despite almost having no physical form, the bat’s body was still ensnared, and the fiery whip continued to tighten.

The bat’s ferocity didn’t diminish, though. The Bone Armor on its face opened, and after snapping at nothing but air with all its might, its body began to tremble with a deep blue luminescence.

“It’s trying to call for others.”

Lisa realized something and immediately alerted the others.

“Don’t worry.”

Cass snorted, and without hesitation, his other hand reached out, clutching the fierce and hideous facial armor with a black flame, and yanked it fiercely.

The originally ferocious and frightening giant bat didn’t even whimper as its luminosity shattered and dissipated into nothingness.

“It seems not very noble or elegant, and this Bone Armor is not a shackle either!”

Cass hummed, summarizing the results of the recent test while playing with the clean bone in his hand and then passing the mask-like trophy to Lisa the next moment.

“I hadn’t planned to hunt this time, but it came knocking on my door. Let’s take it back and run some preliminary tests.”

…

Seeing the President use the spoils to pivot the conversation, Lisa hesitated for a moment, finally reaching out to take it, and even took out a peculiarly patterned pouch to store it.

It wouldn’t be its shed skin, would it?

Fu Qian had a hunch but didn’t rush to draw aggro.

The giant bat’s aggression was real, but it hadn’t actually come at them on its own; it had been dragged over.

Seeing the situation grow a bit stiff, he casually used the Thread of Concern to relieve his leader’s worries.

Now, to rile Lisa again, President Cass might not cope.

“So, what’s really going on with the tail?”

Unexpectedly, Professor Lisa, with the persistence of a researcher, after securing the item at her waist, did not let Cass off the hook.

“It was just a minor curiosity I had asked the President before.”

Cass’s eyes pleaded for help, and Fu Qian cleared his throat, beginning to explain slowly.

“I asked him if the Heaven’s Commencement Institute had the legendary Giant Dragon girl, and the President told me there was no Giant Dragon girl, but there was a Giant Serpent girl without a tail.”

“So that’s it…”

Unexpectedly honest, Cass frowned amidst his troubles but heard Lisa make a soft ‘oh.’

“No wonder you weren’t afraid at all. I even thought of scaring you a bit.”

The tone of the speech sounded surprisingly devoid of anger.

Girl, must mention that keyword.

Watching the baffled President, Fu Qian sighed inwardly.

This was the crux of the matter extracted from Professor Lisa’s earlier question.
