Facing an Ancient God for a Year

Chapter 552: Chapter 552 Beauties (Nine)_1 Chapter 552: Chapter 552 Beauties (Nine)_1 Fu Qian chose a response that quite matched his persona after realizing that the Yasui Group might have a special interest in Darcy.

It wasn’t surprising for Darcy to be indifferent towards the Miracle Elixir, after all.

On one hand, compared to ordinary people, he had already gained a considerable survival advantage and didn’t need to gamble with such dangerous stakes.

At the same time, due to the existence of the Night Watchman, even if Transcendents were a dime a dozen, his own safety was in a delicate balance, which didn’t warrant too much worry.

Of course, the most important factor was his special hobby.

Considering Darcy’s actions, if he really did accidentally transform into a Transcendent, he would’ve played right into Suzune’s hands and would’ve been eliminated long ago.

Therefore, for him, the Miracle Elixir was more harmful than beneficial.

However, such a blunt refusal of the invitation not only surprised the confident Zetian but also left Kagetsu Kana, who had been envious just a moment before, with an indescribable expression.

“Mr. Darcy seems to have his own ideas,” Zetian finally came back to his senses, staring at Fu Qian with a meaningful tone.

“Since that’s the case, we won’t insist, after all, it was only meant as a charitable act.”

“Thanks for the appreciation.”

In the face of this nonsense, Fu Qian casually responded, but his mind was on another matter—why was the Yasui Group interested in Darcy?

What made him different from the rest?

The answer was almost obvious—this guy ate people.

And considering the influence of the Yasui Group on Ye Island, especially since Darcy had business dealings with them, the probability that they held this information was quite high.

So they were actually interested in the Man-Eater Demon’s physique? Was the purpose of inviting him for testing to see if any mutation had occurred due to this condition?

It seemed like a high possibility.

Having reached this conclusion, why not play along with their scheme?

Thinking this, Fu Qian gestured to Kagetsu Kana to leave.

By now she had barely recovered from the initial shock, and with the tests completed, there was no reason to stay. She immediately followed him.

However, perhaps distracted, she aggravated the wound on her leg and with a cry of alarm from Kana, she stumbled and was about to fall to the ground.

In response to this unexpected accident, Zetian, who was beside her, showed the reaction speed of a Transcendent, almost instantly reaching out to help.

Yet, the next moment, Zetian realized someone was even faster, already firmly holding Kana.

If he remembered correctly, that person had already turned his back to them and was walking away, and yet he had reacted faster than Zetian himself…

Zetian narrowed his eyes at Fu Qian, his hands falling short, as if deep in thought.

Thank you!

Kagetsu Kana, clearly not thinking so much, just held her thigh wound and timidly thanked Fu Qian.

But this time, Fu Qian didn’t even bother to speak; after seeing she was standing, he just nodded slightly and continued walking out.

…

“When is the next test?”

As they got into the car one after the other, Fu Qian finally spoke.

“Tomorrow night.”

Kagetsu Kana replied promptly.

“Then I’ll take you back first. Do you want to go to your home or to your sister’s place?”

Fu Qian nodded, expressionless.

“… Aren’t we going to your place?”

Clearly, his response surprised Kagetsu Kana.

“No, I’m quite busy.”

Considering his current persona, Fu Qian couldn’t even be bothered to come up with a reason.

…

It’s because of the Night Watchman!

Without saying much, Kana pondered for a moment and seemed to grasp his concerns.

He was clearly being targeted by Suzune, a Night Watchman who was always looking to bring him to justice, and her role as a test subject for the elixir could be easily exploited…

With this realization, Kagetsu Kana ruled out the possibility of her charm being inadequate and her mood improved significantly.

“I understand, I’m really sorry for the trouble. I’ll just go home then.”

The smiling lady reported an address, then elegantly leaned back in the rear seat.

…

“Wait, isn’t that the wrong way?”

However, this elegance only lasted for a few minutes. Noticing the changing streets outside the car window, Kagetsu Kana couldn’t help but exclaim something was amiss.

“No mistake, I’m taking you to your sister’s place.”

“Why… Didn’t I say I wanted to go home?”

Kagetsu Kana was baffled.

“Your sister’s place is safer.”

Fu Qian casually remarked.

This was the truth. Although the source was unknown, Kagetsu Kana obviously had an abnormal attraction about her, very effective on the opposite sex—just look at what became of his neighbor.

So, having her sister keep an eye on her clearly minimized the chance of accidents.

“…Then if you had already decided, why did you still ask me?”

“I wanted to see your choice.”

Fu Qian didn’t look back. Clearly, Kagetsu Kana was somewhat intimidated by her own sister.

…

When they arrived back at the original Fortune Teller’s Cottage, it was already deep into the night.

Fortunately, fortune-tellers were known for their inscrutable habits, and the little cottage still had its lights on.

“Kana?”

The fortune-teller, sitting there with her eyes half-open, was clearly surprised to see Kagetsu Kana rushed through the door by Fu Qian.

“What happened to your leg?”

“It’s nothing…”

Under the intimidation of Fu Qian behind her, Kagetsu Kana walked in with her head down.

“May I rest here today?”

“Of course, you can.”

The female fortune-teller agreed immediately, turning to look at Fu Qian.

“You are…”

“Miss Kisaragi needs to rest here, and remember to attend the Miracle Elixir test tomorrow.”

Fu Qian didn’t introduce himself; he simply made his statement and then left.

Miracle Elixir?

And from the sound of the intense voices behind him, it seemed that Kagetsu Kana’s sister wasn’t even aware of the Miracle Elixir matter.

…

No matter how one looked at it, this test seemed to be a fairly mature system and was even under the supervision of the Night Watchman. It didn’t seem necessary for such an intense reaction, did it?

Returning to his residence under the identity of Darcy, Fu Qian didn’t rush to enter but stood looking at the night sky thoughtfully.

This was a question he had been pondering since earlier.

Why did the warehouse assign him such a task?

For Yasui Group’s testing projects, Kagetsu Kana clearly wasn’t the first to show a reaction. Why then target her specifically?

If the Transcendent power that had emerged in her was too malevolent and needed elimination, a direct assignment to finish her would suffice. Yet, they insisted on ensuring she completed the test.

Clearly, the essence of the task was to prevent Yasui Group from realizing the efficacy of the elixir.

So, why didn’t they want them to know?

Gathering so little information made it difficult to form any deductions.

Luckily, he now had an opportunity to attempt to access the specifics of the project.

He had shown a bit of his skill at Yasui’s earlier to draw attention.

And now Fu Qian was quite certain that there were two people hiding behind the door.

The next moment, Fu Qian finally pushed the door open.

And almost at the same time, a faint sound of wind came from behind. Without dodging, he allowed a syringe to puncture his neck, and then he fell to the ground as planned.
