Facing an Ancient God for a Year

Chapter 537: Chapter 537: Since I’m Here Already – Part 1 Chapter 537: Chapter 537: Since I’m Here Already – Part 1 Decrees, Decree Residue, in Fu Qian’s view, were all similar to a form of power akin to an aura.

The feeling was that in such a confrontation, one’s level determined everything.

Considering that he was a legit Demigod, a bona fide Third Phase Transcendent.

So, what level did this moon above his head belong to?

Feeling his body becoming increasingly heavy, Fu Qian let out a sincere sigh.

That’s right, in Fu Qian’s judgement, the source of these spots on his body and the resulting discomfort was not the ubiquitous shadows, but the moon in the sky.

The reason was simple, there wasn’t a strong feeling of abnormality when moving from upstairs to downstairs just now.

If there really was something hidden in the shadows, it should have started from that moment on.

Instead, in the span of a few moments, as he wandered a few times at the edge of light and shadow, various shapes had appeared on his body, to the point where even lifting his arms became difficult.

Therefore, Fu Qian preferred to believe that it was the dazzling moonlight that contained something similar to Decree Residue, indiscriminately affecting everything around it.

Would he be fine if he stayed in the shadows then?

This was obviously a logical thought, but sadly it was not that simple.

Fu Qian had already tried it; even when he retreated into the shadows, that oppressive, sluggish sensation didn’t subside at all.

That meant, even if he were to hide in the shadows from now on, he couldn’t eliminate this negative effect.

How cruel, was this welcome ceremony not a bit too grandiose?

However, it was hard to imagine that Tyler, having lost the Nightmare Notes, could come up with something so vicious.

Could it be that someone else set this trap?

The mighty Bloodline Clan, has it been only a few days and they already confessed to the family? Do they give up that easily?

Regardless, it was clear that he was now trapped in this place.

And as one could imagine, it wouldn’t be long before someone came to collect their prey.

So the situation was pressing.

Of course, the other party definitely did not know that he had the ultimate escape spell, Return to City, but that would undoubtedly expose his trump card too easily.

If the prey that had fallen into the trap suddenly disappeared, even a fool would guess that he had some sort of teleportation skill to escape.

Next time, there might be preparations made specifically against it.

And by that time, he himself wouldn’t have a clear understanding of the situation yet.

It was not a good deal making a loss like that.

As for simply never coming back?

What a joke, taking over a bookstore for less than a month and slacking halfway through the venture was not his style.

Or maybe next time he has a mission close by, take a detour to annihilate The Gulad Family, saving the country through an indirect strategy?

Indeed, that was a thought.

It just felt a bit too roundabout.

…

Weighing the pros and cons, Fu Qian now found himself yawning in slow motion.

Even though he could confirm that his abilities were still intact, this resistance from a higher level made it hard to adapt.

If he were to engage in a fight later, he would obviously be an easy target.

After a moment of contemplation, Fu Qian ultimately reached up to his face and took off the Emissary’s Mask.

As it turned out, the grand spell to return to the city was not prohibited, and in the blink of an eye, the familiar warehouse appeared before him.

As he escaped, Fu Qian felt lighter; the peculiar sluggish sensation vanished instantly.

Yet in less than a second, he put the mask right back on, not even taking out a new prop.

…

Under the bright moonlight, the shadows at the street corner stretched long.

Suddenly, that shadow writhed, and a far denser darkness congealed into a humanoid form, with two enormous bat wings faintly visible on its back.

However, before even its facial features had formed, the mass of shadow burst apart.

At the same time, about a dozen meters away, the shadow in the corner of the street across started writhing, and the same figure appeared.

Making use of these short leaps, it perfectly avoided the moonlight above.

And after several such moves, the humanoid shadow had already gotten close to the small bookstore on the street.

This time it didn’t jump again; even the outline of the shadow shook slightly and became a bit clearer, as a pair of bloody red eyes emerged on the face.

Just as this figure attempted to observe the inside of the bookstore, it froze on the spot the next moment.

The door of the bookstore was wide open, and in front of the store, a lounge chair was placed out in the open.

The young bookstore owner was lying on it in a supremely relaxed pose, looking up at the starry sky.

On his body, one could see crisscrossing black patterns spreading, even covering more than half of his face.

“Truly foolish.”

After a brief moment of distraction, the shadow muttered disdainfully.

“Matches well with that idiot Tyler.”

…

Having finished its judgment, the figure seemed to have made some kind of decision.

The next moment, the shadow at its side surged with all the previous speed.

Silently, a black ray took shape and then lunged from in front of it, striking directly at the seated Fu Qian.

Facing this sudden attack, the young bookstore owner was not slow to react.

Instead of attempting to dodge, Fu Qian’s fingers moved, and a Scarlet Whip tore through the air, meeting the ray head-on.

The moment they touched, the black ray was instantly dispersed, and a silent thunderous noise erupted.

However, it was as though it were a tangible matter; even after the ray exploded, it didn’t vanish but scattered around, creating a dilute cloud of blackness.

The next moment, a gigantic claw emerged from this mass of darkness, enveloping Fu Qian’s entire upper body within its attack.

Facing this ferocious strike, the lounge chair underneath Fu Qian shattered with a bang, and he tumbled down.

Amidst the spray of blood, the change in height enabled Fu Qian to narrowly avoid a fatal blow.

Yet this was far from over; another claw followed almost like a shadow.

Compared to the previous strike, this one was clearly more solid.

Sharp as daggers, the nails were almost transparent in the moonlight, their downward force menacing, intent on pinning Fu Qian to the ground.

“Here it comes?”

Then, at this critical moment, Fu Qian on the ground suddenly spoke.

Simultaneously, a massive Heavy Fist directly confronted the claw.

Crack!

The sound of bone snapping could almost be heard.

The deformed claw retracted as soon as it touched, retreating faster than when it had struck, and its body rapidly became insubstantial.

“Why the rush to leave?”

Unfortunately for the shadow, Fu Qian’s movements were even swifter; stepping forward, dozens of entangling tendrils burst from his right hand.

Amidst groans of pain, torrents of flesh and blood finally sprayed out.

The semi-ethereal body, which did nothing to reduce damage as anticipated, could no longer maintain itself and tumbled heavily to the ground.

“How may I address you?”

Dozens of tendrils intertwined into a cage, hoisting the wounded enemy into the air, as Fu Qian asked with curiosity.
