Chapter 1387: Chapter 1387: Chaos Region Fish City

”Quick, set up defenses, you two, keep an eye on them. Temporarily escort them to the city walls, if there’s any unusual movement, show no mercy!”

Originally, they were prepared to imprison Ye Luo and Yun Liancheng, but the sudden enemy attack had made them completely disregard the two of them.

Moreover, those left to guard Ye Luo and Yun Liancheng were unexpectedly just two young lads.

The two youths held longswords, looking nervously at Ye Luo and company.

”Hurry, move. You’d better not try any tricks, or else, don’t blame us for being ruthless.”

...

Ye Luo was full of doubts, so he could not resist asking directly, ”Young man, may I inquire who is attacking the city? Why are you all so tense?”

”It’s those savages! You, you really come from the Great Tang Empire?”

The two youths were clearly more concerned about whether Ye Luo and Yun Liancheng were really from the Great Tang Empire.

Ye Luo nodded and said with a smile, ”Yes, indeed we are from the Great Tang Empire. Why do you ask? It seems you admire the Great Tang Empire a lot, why is that?”

”Wow, you really are from the Great Tang Empire! I’ve heard that the Great Tang Empire has built sturdy walls, completely sealing off the entire realm, and their technological strength is so advanced that the savages never attack them! I’ve heard that the people there can calmly cultivate without ever worrying about external threats! Is that true?”

Ye Luo thought about it; indeed, since he arrived in the Martial Realm, he had been staying in the Great Tang Empire and truly had not encountered attacks from other ethnicities or nations!

”Yes, it is indeed so. Could it be... do you often suffer attacks here?”

”Isn’t that the case! At first, we were supposed to be a vassal state of the Great Tang Empire, but a thousand years ago, our great king sought independence, and to our surprise, the Great Tang Empire agreed without hesitation and then immediately withdrew their troops. Since then, our days of suffering have begun, alas...”

The youth sighed, and Ye Luo found it odd, thinking that even though this youth seemed quite young, why did he speak like an old man?

”What exactly happened? If you sought independence and obtained it, shouldn’t that be a good thing?”

Yun Liancheng interjected.

Who would have thought, as soon as he finished speaking, the other youth expressed discontent.

”What’s good about that? I’ve heard from the elders, originally with the Great Tang Empire around, our days were stable. But now, hmph, it’s war every day, people die daily. Our Fish City originally had over three hundred thousand people, but now there are less than fifty thousand left. Today we fight the savages, tomorrow the Saints, and occasionally, we also face plundering by demon creatures. It’s likely not long before our nation perishes!”

What is all this about?

The more Ye Luo heard, the more perplexed he became. Luckily, the two youths were quite forthcoming, and after some questioning by Ye Luo and Yun Liancheng, they finally understood what kind of place they were in.

Perhaps they shouldn’t be called a nation, calling them a tribal society would be more fitting.

As it turns out, the Great Tang Empire is geographically unique, bordered on one side by a vast mountain range, filled with countless demon beasts and spirit beasts, and no unified organization. A single wall was enough to keep them at bay.

On another side was the vast, boundless sea!

Although the boundless sea contained many sea beasts, they rarely came ashore to attack humans, so it was considered safe.

As for the other two sides, one faced another great empire, and the two countries had long been friends, so naturally, there was no danger there.

Only this region, known as the Chaos Region, is seen as a lawless zone by the Great Tang Empire.

The Chaos Region is actually vast, with over a thousand large and small nations scattered throughout. Each nation carves out its own domain, yet the region is also rampant with Demon Beasts and primitive natives!

The so-called primitive natives are the indigenous people of this land, low in intelligence, and with the appearance of half-beast half-human, extremely ferocious, and mostly living by looting!

As for Saints, it’s just a general term, referring to some powerful beings from unknown origins. These beings only care about the resources within the Chaos Region, but never treat the inhabitants of the Chaos Region as humans, killing or beating them at will, and even, many Alchemists directly use these people as test subjects for their Elixirs!

And whenever a talented individual emerges from the Chaos Region, they will inevitably be found by these beings, either to be swayed to their side or to be swiftly executed!

The Chaos Region is just like its name suggests, utterly chaotic!

Even the various nations could be extinguished at any time!

Take Fish City for example, who knows how many kings or emperors have been changed!

Kings or emperors no longer hold much deterrence in the Chaos Region; strength is the measure that balances one’s status in the Chaos Region.

Ye Luo and Yun Liancheng did not participate in the war; of course, this was because they were simply not allowed to participate.

Right now, the two stood atop the broken walls and personally witnessed the so-called primitive natives’ attack.

The so-called primitive natives indeed have an odd appearance, with the simplest characteristic being their green skin.

These people are covered in various bizarre patterns and have an insatiable bloodlust. Ye Luo even personally saw several natives drag out the intestines of a person from Fish City after killing them and devour them alive!

Ye Luo was somewhat perplexed; he couldn’t fathom why these natives were so frenzied, as from his experience on Earth and what he knew of the Great Tang Empire, this was difficult to comprehend.

But this scene was being acted out right in front of his eyes.

The walls of Fish City were not very high, so they could not possibly stop the natives’ attack, allowing these natives to quickly scale the walls and engage in close combat with the people of Fish City!

...

”Even though they’re not far from the Great Tang Empire, why don’t they have firearms?” Ye Luo asked somewhat puzzled.

Yun Liancheng just smiled and said, ”Brother Ye, don’t you know that our Great Tang Empire’s technology is seen as an anomaly in other countries? Apart from a few countries that also use technological power, most nations simply refuse to accept the existence of technological power!”

”Oh, why is that?”

In Ye Luo’s eyes, technologically enhanced cultivation, which could quickly improve one’s strength, should be a good choice, but why is it regarded as an anomaly?

”Haha, Brother Ye, you really are more ignorant than I am. Technologically enhanced cultivation? In the eyes of many, it’s just a shortcut.”

A shortcut?

In Ye Luo’s mind, if technologically enhanced cultivation really was a shortcut that could rapidly increase one’s strength and save some time, then it would definitely be worth using.
