The Golden Eagle was so frustrated; naturally, Chen Wen wouldn’t let it busy itself anymore.

He let the Golden Eagle rest on horseback while he remained vigilant, leading the animals forward.

Initially, Chen Wen didn’t notice anything unusual.

But as he and Vikram left the valley and walked two or three minutes towards the core area with the wind.

At the end of the view.

Chen Wen vaguely saw a small black dot rapidly approaching.

He was instantly alert: ”Something seems off up ahead.”

”What?”

Vikram also looked forward but saw nothing.

”Did you see it wrong?”

Vikram glanced back at Chen Wen, his eyes filled with doubt.

Chen Wen shook his head.

He was sure there was a black dot over there, but just now, the dot seemed to have taken a detour and turned into the hillside over there.

”I can’t be mistaken; my eyesight is much better than average,”

Chen Wen said without boasting.

But since the black dot changed direction, Chen Wen didn’t think much of it: ”But now that thing has disappeared, it might be a solitary wild yak.”

Wild yak?

This piqued Vikram’s interest, and he began asking Chen Wen about the details of his previous wild yak hunts.

After all, he had one shot at hunting a wild yak, and since his food was scarce now, hunting a wild yak would be a lifesaver.

After Chen Wen glanced ahead once more to ensure the black dot hadn’t reappeared.

Only then did he start chatting with Vikram.

...

The two walked and chatted, roughly ten minutes later.

Just as Chen Wen was talking about processing yak leather, suddenly, the usually quiet stallion seemed to sense something.

It neighed, its demeanor a bit tense.

Seeing this, Chen Wen quickly approached the stallion, patting its stiff neck to calm it.

”Don’t be afraid~ Don’t be afraid~ What’s happening?”

Chen Wen softly soothed.

The stallion’s eyes were fixed dead ahead, softly saying to Chen Wen, ”I can’t quite put it into words, but it feels like there’s danger ahead!”

Hearing this, Chen Wen furrowed his brow.

He slowly pulled out a spear, and seeing this, Vikram also quickly drew his weapon, dismounted, and moved to the center of the horse herd.

”Is there a situation?”

”Yes!”

Chen Wen said, glancing ahead towards the hillside.

The slope was not high, with a gentle gradient, and at the top, a robust Tibetan Horse Bear had just climbed up.

It hung its head, eyes fierce, staring directly at Chen Wen.

”Bear!”

Vikram could now clearly see, his body involuntarily stiffened.

Tibetan Horse Bear, a type of brown bear.

As one of Earth’s top predators, it’s common for humans to feel fear and tension when facing a brown bear.

Very normal.

Chen Wen’s first encounter with a brown bear subspecies, the North American grizzly bear, was similar.

But now Chen Wen has come across brown bears many times, so he no longer fears them exceedingly.

”Don’t panic, this guy is assessing us. It hasn’t yet regarded us as food,”

Chen Wen softly reminded Vikram to prevent an overreaction.

After a brief panic, Vikram slowly regained calm: ”Okay, what should we do?”

Chen Wen pondered, then said, ”Don’t move yet, hold out a bit longer, see if it retreats. If it does, we’ll continue but slightly avoid it.”

”And if it doesn’t retreat?”

Vikram asked one more question.

Chen Wen glanced at Vikram: ”If it doesn’t retreat, it means it’s targeting us, we’ll figure it out then.”

”Alright.”

Chen Wen said no more, instead holding the spear and positioning himself at the front of the group.

He stood before the herd, unwaveringly staring at the Tibetan Horse Bear.

The wind was slightly strong now, alerting Chen Wen to potential issues.

They were walking with the wind; the Tibetan Horse Bear likely smelled the scent of blood from the valley and followed it here, considering them as prey.

If they continue, they must pay attention to the wind direction.

Chen Wen thought.

At the moment, the Tibetan Horse Bear had also fixed its gaze on Chen Wen.

Unlike black bears, Tibetan Horse Bears have very good vision.

Within three to five hundred meters, they can clearly see moving objects.

So Chen Wen wasn’t worried that it couldn’t see him.

After a few minutes of standoff, the Tibetan Horse Bear seemed impatient.

It raised its head, letting out a low growl.

Hearing the roar, Vikram beside Chen Wen swallowed difficultly.

”Don’t panic, it’s cunning, testing us. If we scatter in fear of the roar, then it’ll start hunting,”

Chen Wen reassured Vikram while checking the herd’s status.

Since there were no young in the herd, now led by the stallion, they were gathered together, not fearing the Tibetan Horse Bear.

”Hold steady, it won’t dare come too close!”

Chen Wen declared.

However, as soon as Chen Wen spoke, the Tibetan Horse Bear on the slope suddenly moved.

It eyed them while stepping down the slope, beginning to approach.

Seeing this, Vikram couldn’t help but say, ”It’s this...”

”Yes, just as you thought.”

Chen Wen reluctantly said, ”It’s targeting us.”

Tibetan Horse Bears actively attack humans.

Due to cautionary, defensive, or food necessities, incidents of Tibetan Horse Bears attacking humans are not rare.

Especially in recent years with booming tourism in Zang Province, many travel bloggers attempt to draw attention by feeding Tibetan Horse Bears.

Such behavior leads many travelers to mistakenly think Tibetan Horse Bears aren’t hazardous, resulting in tragedies.

But Chen Wen knows very well how dangerous Tibetan Horse Bears are!

Defense measures need to be taken now!

As Chen Wen was about to speak, Vikram pulled out a spear—a weapon he seized, not favored by Chen Wen due to its long shaft.

Vikram raised the spear, suggesting, ”Why don’t we throw them together, see if we can wound and repel it?”

This round’s rules don’t permit lethal measures against Tibetan Horse Bears, so Vikram devised this method.

However, Chen Wen stopped Vikram: ”No, that’ll only infuriate the Tibetan Horse Bear; even severely injured, it won’t retreat in rage.”

Upon hearing this, Vikram’s head was a mess.

What to do then?

You can’t just watch it approach and attack you, right?

But as Vikram was about to speak, Chen Wen quickly interjected: ”Listen to me, I have two methods to scare it away; if neither works, we’ll have to fight.”

Upon hearing this, Vikram promptly asked: ”What methods?”

Chen Wen explained briefly: ”Sound and smell; intimidating the Tibetan Horse Bear in these ways, if either proves effective, it’ll turn and flee!”

After speaking, Chen Wen instructed Vikram to find chili powder while he grabbed an iron pot and a trench shovel they had seized earlier.

As the Tibetan Horse Bear approached to within roughly twenty meters.

Chen Wen lifted the pot and hit its bottom with the shovel.

Clang!

A loud sound echoed from the pot; even Vikram, close to Chen Wen, flinched from the shock.

The nearby Tibetan Horse Bear was also startled, its fur bristling, frozen in place.

It worked!

Seeing this, Vikram, who had harbored doubts about Chen Wen’s methods, immediately displayed a delighted expression.
