The Female Lead Decides to Act Wickedly

Chapter 1729: Chapter 627: The Reverse Female Lead (Part 16)

And as for Granny Li, her days weren’t exactly easy either, yet she still helped her younger sister out.

Besides feeling sorry for her sister, Granny Li had a little thought of her own—she wanted to outshine her sister!

It’s just that, a few years later, Granny Li gave birth to three sons one after another, and then her parents-in-law passed away from illness one after another. Life for the He Family suddenly became difficult.

Meanwhile, on her sister’s side, when Brother-in-law Xu went into the mountains to dig pit traps, he accidentally dug up a root of Wild Ginseng, which was bought by a Noble from the County for one hundred taels of Silver.

The Xu Family built a house, bought land, and even bought a little shopfront in town. They didn’t run any business themselves, just collected rent.

The situation of the two families was instantly reversed.

It went from the older sister supporting the younger sister to the younger sister helping the older sister.

Granny Li was the most strong-willed, and as the eldest sister, she was unwilling to keep holding out her hand to her younger sister.

But reality forced her to accept her sister’s gifts, and she couldn’t even begin to say how awful she felt about it.

Only after Fubao came along did the He Family’s days slowly start to improve, and the ”contest” between Granny Li and her sister finally came to an end.

It’s not that the two sisters didn’t get along, it’s just that people, more or less, all have that little bit of competitive streak.

And this kind of back-and-forth comparison didn’t affect their sisterly affection in the least.

At most, it counted as a little bit of fun between two sisters!

Sure enough, the moment Granny Li arrived at Xujiaping in a luxurious big carriage, she was immediately surrounded by the villagers.

”Oh my, whose honored guest is this?”

”Maybe just passing through? Who in our Xujiaping would have such relatives?”

”Eh? The carriage is heading toward Xu Laosan’s house, could it be here for Xu Laosan?”

”...Oh my goodness, I—I swear that rich old lady looks awfully familiar, seems like she’s the eldest sister from Xu Laosan’s house!”

The villagers followed along on both sides of the carriage, gawking as they walked and whispering among themselves.

Sitting inside the carriage, Granny Li heard all this and felt ridiculously pleased.

She pretended to be reserved as she lifted the window curtain and stuck half her head out.

The crowd of onlookers trailing behind first had their eyes dazzled by the gold-sparkling jewelry on her head.

Only then did someone sharp-eyed recognize her, ”Well if it isn’t a relative of Xu Laosan’s. I heard her son opened a shop in the County, business is booming!”

”Yes, yes! It’s called, called ’Doulailao’. Tsk, the name sounds kinda weird, but the business is really good!”

”No wonder, so it’s her son who’s made it big, and he’s brought his old mother up into wealth with him!”

”...If you ask me, it’s still Xu Laosan’s family who’s blessed, to have such a rich older sister. She can just sit tight and wait to enjoy the good life!”

The villagers of Xujiaping were both envious and jealous; all sorts of comments floated around, every word going straight into Granny Li’s ears.

At first Granny Li was a bit displeased: ”What do you mean relying on my son? This old lady relies on our Fubao!”

However, that line ”Xu Laosan’s family is blessed” sounded very sweet to Granny Li’s ears.

That’s right, now that she was well-off, of course she’d take care of her own younger sister.

Second Sister Li: ...

She was in the backyard feeding the chickens when she heard a sudden burst of commotion from far away.

She thought it was Scabies Xu’s family next door making a fuss again, and felt a bit sorry for that child Changsheng.

Originally, she didn’t want to get involved in these matters.

But once she thought of Changsheng, she just couldn’t help herself.

In the end, Second Sister Li gritted her teeth and carried the feed basin out to the front yard.

Only, she didn’t see anyone making trouble in the courtyard next door. Instead, she noticed a crowd of people on the road not far away, all flocking toward her house.

”Eh? What’s going on?”

Second Sister Li was curious; if her hands weren’t full, she’d want to raise a hand like a sunshade and take a good look.

Just as Second Sister Li was standing on tiptoe craning her neck, some sharp-eyed villager spotted her at the gate and shouted loudly, ”Hey, Xu Laosan’s wife, you’ve got an honored guest at your house!”

”That’s right, Xu Laosan’s wife, your family is going to really make it this time!”

Second Sister Li: ...

Honored guest?

Her maiden family and her husband’s family were poor farmers going back generations; how could they possibly have any honored guests?

And ’make it’?

Heh. Second Sister Li had daydreamed about living a rich life too, but she knew perfectly well that their situation now was already very good.

They had fields, a house, and a shop; their son had taken a wife, and their grandson was about to get married as well.

The whole family didn’t have to worry about food and clothing; maybe they weren’t outrageously rich, but they were already doing far better than most of the villagers in Xujiaping.

Second Sister Li was very content!

As for really making it big and being truly wealthy, Second Sister Li didn’t even dare to dream that far.

”Oh, hey, Xu Laosan’s wife, what are you standing there dazed for? Hurry up and come out to welcome your honored guest!”

Seeing Second Sister Li standing still more than ten paces away, the onlooking villagers started calling out to her.
