Reborn Divine Doctor: The Abandoned Girl's Legend

Chapter 831: Chapter 698: The World of Demons

”””

The area surrounding Sifang City was barren, not even a blade of grass to be seen, and it was plagued by fierce beasts all around. Life here was indeed extremely dull.

That was the first reaction many people had upon seeing Sifang City.

Long Sixuan was no exception.

If it weren’t for the Evil Spirit Cauldron’s insistent demand, he wouldn’t fancy being the closed-door disciple of the Sifang City Lord.

”How foolish, do you realize why the Sifang City Lord is considered on par with the Nine Sects Leader solely with a city lord’s identity? His status in the mainland is only slightly inferior to those big bosses of the Three Sects,” the Evil Cauldron Spirit said irritably.

”Could it be that Sifang City hides some secret?” Long Sixuan was not entirely dense; he picked up the implication that there might be an unknown aspect of Sifang City that people were unaware of.

”Of course, Sifang City is merely an eye-blocking technique. The true role of the Sifang City Lord is that of the gatekeeper of Qing Province Continent. Somewhere in Sifang City, there lies a hidden Demon Awakening Gate which, legend has it, leads to the Endless World, where countless demons and many unknown beings reside.” It took the Evil Spirit Cauldron countless years to evolve from a mere Evil Cauldron into the Evil Cauldron Spirit.

It had lived on the mainland much longer than Long Sixuan, changing owners several times over; Long Sixuan was neither its first servant nor would he be the last.

It knew many secrets of the mainland that were unknown to most, including the origin of Sifang City and that Demon Awakening Gate, inconspicuous to the vast majority, which had existed for who knows how many years.

Both the Sifang City Lord and Sifang City itself held extraordinarily special significance.

Even the fierce beasts that roamed freely outside Sifang City in the Rift Valley Sand River region had a reason for their prolonged safe existence.

The specific reasons for this, the Evil Cauldron Spirit had no time to explain in detail to Long Sixuan.

Long Sixuan listened, thunderstruck.

He had occasionally heard from the Evil Cauldron Spirit about the Qing Province Continent, merely one of the countless mainlands, with many other mainlands beyond it.

But this was his first time hearing about the Demon Awakening Gate.

Demons were entities that were paired with demons in notoriety.

Even the fierce beasts that rampaged around the Sand River were said to be lower-level demons.

As for the Evil Method Demon Sect in the Central Plains of the mainland, it was rumored to be associated with the Demon Clan.

”Lord Cauldron Spirit... does your plan involve the Demon Awakening Gate?” Long Sixuan swallowed hard; though he was a wicked man by all accounts, he was at least human.

If this involved demons, it would be a different story altogether.

He had read ancient texts, and those involving the Demon Clan described them mostly as inherently brutal, feasting on human flesh, and devouring human cultivation.

”What a spineless thing you are, just a Demon Awakening Gate. As long as you don’t come across a real Sky Demon, no one can harm you. My cultivation can advance further through Demon Refining. If I can merge with a hundred devil souls, I can become a Demon Refining Cauldron. By then, even the likes of the Three Sects can do nothing to me. The premise, however, must be that the Demon Awakening Gate can be opened. Thus, you must become the disciple of the Sifang City Lord,” the Evil Cauldron Spirit’s words startled Long Sixuan, and he was unsure of its exact intentions.

But now, as everything depended on the Evil Cauldron Spirit, Long Sixuan dared not go west when it said east. Since it required him to secure the first place on the Sifang Ranking, he had to take that top position no matter what.

”Lord Cauldron Spirit, what do you think I should do next?”

”You are only two points behind Hei Yue; she is your biggest obstacle to winning the championship. If I’m not mistaken, she will do everything she can to hunt fierce beasts in the remaining day and a half. What you need to do is to obstruct her and hunt the high-ranking fierce beasts near the Middle region before she does. As for Long Baobao, once in Sifang City, there will be plenty of opportunities to dispose of him,” the Evil Cauldron Spirit said with a sinister tone.

The Evil Spirit Bat was exposed and couldn’t continue to monitor Hei Yue and Long Baobao, but the Evil Spirit Bat could still locate the fierce beasts in the Sand River River Basin, especially those Beast Kings with high Hunting Points or some of the highly-ranked competitors.

”””

With this advantage, Long Sixuan was like having Thousand-mile Eye, allowing him to move one step ahead and plunder points.

After hearing the suggestion from Evil Cauldron Spirit, Long Sixuan was overjoyed. He immediately started to frantically kill Fierce Beasts around the Rift Valley Sand River area.

Such actions quickly bore fruit.

In the half day that followed, Ye Lingyue and Long Baobao looked through the Middle reaches and even parts of the Upper reaches for half a day. Surprisingly, they did not encounter a single Fierce Beast.

The Fierce Beasts that had been ravaging around the Rift Valley Sand River seemed to have vanished into thin air, all at once disappearing without a trace.

”Looking at these marks, someone got ahead of us and has killed this batch of Red Flame Ear Foxes.” Ye Lingyue and Long Baobao were now standing on a sand island piled up more than a mile up the Upper reaches.

On the ground, there were clear human footprints and traces of Red Flame Ear Foxes’ fur.

More than a hundred Red Flame Ear Foxes, including the Fox King, had been slaughtered, and the blood spilled on the sand had not yet congealed.

The other party’s methods were very swift and efficient, and judging by the freshness of the blood on the ground, the person had left no more than a quarter of an hour ago.

”It has already happened three times, always one step ahead of us. This can’t be mere coincidence.”

The speaker was Feng Xun, standing by the sand river, still able to smell that suffocating scent of fresh blood in the wind.

After the Sifang City Lord made a last-minute change to the competition, shortening the period by half, the air above the sand river became murky, and the competitors started to become frenzied.

”It’s not just that, we’ve been ambushed several times along the way. It looks like the person who got ahead of us not only seized the prey, but also leaked our whereabouts to the other competitors.”

Ye Lingyue spoke gravely.

She was ranked first on the Sifang Ranking and being relatively unknown, naturally, there were many who wanted to snatch her Four Directions Token.

On this journey, she had encountered ambushes from at least six or seven groups of participants.

Those people were unscrupulous in their efforts to seize the Four Directions Token, including those pretending to ask for help, and those who actively tried to form alliances.

But if Ye Lingyue refused, they would immediately turn hostile and attack.

Ye Lingyue did not hesitate with such people, invariably killing them on the spot.

Along the way, even Long Baobao had killed a few people with her own hands.

”It must be Long Sixuan again.” Long Baobao clenched her teeth tightly.

Only Long Sixuan would be so treacherous.

”Whether it’s him or not isn’t the most important thing right now, we must break this deadlock and find a way to take back the initiative.” Ye Lingyue gazed upstream of the sand river.

Upstream was the most complex section of the Rift Valley Sand River, but it was also the shortest.

That also meant that there were very few areas left where Fierce Beasts remained.

What should she do?

Ye Lingyue was pondering this when suddenly, she saw several butterflies flying towards them from up ahead.
