Reborn Divine Doctor: The Abandoned Girl's Legend

Chapter 418: Chapter 288: Better a Short Pain Than a Long One

When Ye Lingyue was escorted down by Emperor Xia’s order, her heart was as cold as water, yet she harbored no fear.

She had thought that leveraging the strength of Marquis and Marquis Qinghai would be sufficient to sway Emperor Xia’s decision.

However, she hadn’t expected that halfway through, Hong Mingyue would interfere and even found the son of the Valley Master of Three-Life Valley.

”Get in, you really have the audacity, even daring to offend the Hong Residence, you and your mother should just sit tight and serve out your sentence.” The prison guard roughly pushed Ye Lingyue into the cell.

”Ling Yue, how did you end up here? Let her go!” In the Heavenly Prison, Ye Huangyu, hearing the noise and seeing her daughter being pushed in, rushed to the prison gate.

The mother and daughter were separated just by an aisle.

”Mother, I missed you a bit, so I came to see you,” Ye Lingyue said, raising the corners of her lips and smiling.

”You, you silly child, didn’t I tell you not to return to Xia Capital? Did you spill everything? You’re so foolish, you had such a promising future, why must you get entangled with mother again?” Ye Huangyu, when faced with accusations from thousands at the Golden Throne Hall, did not cry.

Nor was she moved by the insults and scolding of the prison guards in the Heavenly Prison.

But upon seeing her daughter imprisoned because of her, she finally couldn’t hold back her tears.

”Mother, a child does not shun his mother for her appearance. Besides, my mother is a stunning beauty. How could I not want you? Rest assured, within three days, Emperor Xia will pay for what he has done today,” Ye Lingyue said with a cold laugh.

She had originally thought that Emperor Xia was a wise ruler.

Now it seems, crows are black everywhere; Emperor Xia is also a king who fears the power of sects.

If that’s the case, then don’t blame her, Ye Lingyue, for turning ruthless.

”Ling Yue, don’t be rash,” Ye Huangyu said worriedly, looking at her daughter. Ye Huangyu knew her daughter’s temper very well; she was afraid that in her impulsiveness, her daughter might do something drastic.

”What is this noise, this is the Heavenly Prison, not the noisy streets.”

A prison guard came over, carrying a wooden bucket and swished it towards Ye Huangyu’s cell.

A foul stench hit their faces.

”What are you doing!”

It was the smell of urine. Ye Lingyue looked at her mother Ye Huangyu’s cell—filthy and disordered.

In a broken bowl nearby, there were a few hard, moldy steamed buns.

If it were not for the fear of Ye Huangyu’s Reincarnation Second Realm’s power, those prison guards would have already tortured her severely.

”What are we doing? Teaching you a lesson. Letting you know, once you enter this Heavenly Prison, even princes and princesses must obediently accept their lot.” The prison guard sneered, about to spit into Ye Lingyue’s cell.

That prison guard screamed as his body suddenly flew backwards and crashed onto the ground.

”You dog servant, I want to see in this Heavenly Prison, whether you are in charge, or I am.”

With a long stride, he stepped on the hand of that prison guard.

”Sixth Prince... spare my life. This servant deserves to die!”

The prison guard looked up, scared out of his wits, as the Sixth Prince Xiahou Qi approached with a darkened, handsome face.

”Speak, who told you to do this!”

Ever since finding out about Ye Huangyu’s imprisonment, Xiahou Qi had been thinking of ways to rescue her.

However, this time, both his great-grandma and the Empress were elusive in their responses, consistently refusing his requests.

What made things worse was the rumor that Ye Lingyue had also been imprisoned in the Heavenly Prison for angering Emperor Xia, prompting Xiahou Qi to rush there only to witness the prison guard’s despicable demeanor.

Thinking that had he been a step late, Ye Lingyue would have been dishonored, Xiahou Qi put more force into his steps.

”It was... the wife of the Great General, Mrs. Zhuge and her daughter Lady Hong who ordered me to do this. They even secretly gave me a thousand Gold, instructing me to give Ye Family’s Mother and Daughter a harsh lesson.” The prison guard did not expect the usually mild-mannered Sixth Prince to be so terrifying when angered.

Everyone in the palace knew that after the Fourth Prince’s death, the Sixth Prince was the designated heir to the throne.

Had he known earlier that the prisoners were the ones the Sixth Prince had been protecting, not even ten guts would have been enough for him to accept the bribe from the Hong Residence.

With a sudden noise like firecrackers exploding, the prison guard’s head burst open like a ripe watermelon right in front of Ye Family’s Mother and Daughter.

Ye Huangyu was secretly startled by the sight, while Ye Lingyue showed no emotion.

It seems that besides Ye Ling Yue’s breakthrough to the Seven Rank, Xiahou Qi’s cultivation had also improved significantly.

Most were not aware that due to his past deviation, Xiahou Qi’s temperament had grown even more cruel than Xiahou Hong’s. He seemed mild only because nothing had crossed his bottom line.

And unquestionably, Ye Lingyue was his bottom line.

Xiahou Qi’s cultivation technique, although initially led to deviation due to careless practice, became a unique spiritual technique after being revised by Master Long Yu.

According to Master Long Yu, Xiahou Qi’s spiritual power had made significant strides after practicing the revised technique. He had now reached the Seven Rank Peak, slightly surpassing Ye Lingyue.

”Ling Yue, I am so sorry. I never expected Father Emperor to...” Xiahou Qi ordered the corpse of the prison guard to be taken away, walking to the cell side with an apologetic face.

”Sixth Prince, you should call me Senior Sister. Thank you for intervening earlier, Junior Brother. A place like the Heavenly Prison isn’t suited for someone of your status to stay long.” Ye Lingyue’s distant tone turned Xiahou Qi’s face even paler.

Clearly, he was hurt by Ye Lingyue’s indifference.

”Ling Yue, don’t worry, I will find a way to get you out.” Xiahou Qi managed a sorrowful smile, leaving the Heavenly Prison disheartened.

However, Xiahou Qi’s visit had quite an impact on the other prison guards.

Those opportunistic guards hastily moved Ye Lingyue and Ye Huangyu to a more comfortable cell, confining the two women together and even replacing their meals with fresh fruits and vegetables.

”Ling Yue, the Sixth Prince... your coldness towards him has hurt his feelings.” Ye Huangyu saw clearly, she had also heard before that the Sixth Prince had proposed to Ye Lingyue, only to be outright rejected by her daughter.

Ye Huangyu worried that because of her and Hong Fang’s affair, Ye Lingyue had grown distrustful of romantic relationships, possibly missing out on a good marriage.

”Mother, it’s better to endure a short pain than a long one. I’m also doing this for his own good. I will never join the Royal family, and the Sixth Prince is not my destined partner. Besides, I originally planned to seek revenge and then retire with you. Now that you have Uncle Nie, once this storm settles and you marry Uncle Nie, I plan to leave Daxia and travel around the mainland.” Ye Lingyue knew her lack of feelings saddened Xiahou Qi terribly.

But she harbored no romantic feelings towards Xiahou Qi, and some things simply could not be forced.

With Xiahou Qi gone without a trace, it was not until Empress Liu and others noticed his absence did they realize that Xiahou Qi, with a newly refined Alchemy Beast from the Alchemist Tower, had gone to the Xixia Plain.
