Reborn in the Eighties as a Housewife with a Space

Chapter 860: Chapter 854 Treating People_1

As Qin Xue prepared to take the old woman’s pulse by placing her hand on the woman’s wrist, the old lady’s eyes suddenly opened. Her eyes lit up at the sight of Qin Xue, a beautiful girl she had not seen before in her home. She wondered, “Did Da Lang bring her home?”

“Da Lang,” the old lady called out.

“Mum, I’m here,” Da Lang quickly responded to his mother’s call.

“Did you bring this young lady home?” Da Lang’s mother asked him.

“Yes, Mum, I brought this lady home to treat you,” Da Lang said, understanding his mother’s implication and quickly explaining. He hoped to avoid any embarrassments that might arise.

“Only to treat me? I thought…” Da Lang’s mother’s spirit seemed to dampen upon hearing this. She thought to herself, with their family’s situation, what young lady would even take a second look at Da Lang? She wondered if she would ever live to see him getting married and having children, blaming herself for being a burden to her child.

“Mum, what are you thinking? She is my friend’s wife, a doctor. I haven’t seen them since I got home, but when I saw them this time, I invited my sister-in-law home to take a look at you,” Da Lang said, a bit embarrassed, trying to explain to his mother, looking a bit flustered as he glanced at Qin Xue.

His mother admired strong women, being one herself. His father had passed away when he was young, which meant he had to rely on his mother. After he grew up, his mother sent him to serve in the army.

However, fate had played a cruel joke on them. After his mother fell ill, their life became a daily struggle. He had no choice but to leave the army and take care of his mother. But he was a simple man, incredibly straightforward with no ability to navigate complex situations, which cost him his job after offending someone.

So, he resorted to begging on the streets, but he never really felt comfortable with it. He would ask for money and accept whatever people were willing to give but would never press anyone who didn’t want to give. His modest income reflected this approach, which also explained why nobody troubled them despite their lengthy tenure as beggars. This was the first time they had met anyone like Qin Xue.

However, this encounter might turn out to be a blessing in disguise. Though unexpected, they met a doctor who might be able to cure his mother.

“Oh, I see. That’s good then,” Da Lang’s mother seemed to cheer up upon hearing this. She knew all too well the hardships faced by women.

“Ma’am, may I take your pulse to ascertain your illness?” Qin Xue asked Da Lang’s mother, unaffected by their discussion and keeping her tone steady.

“Alright, thank you. But it’s probably going to be the same diagnosis. I’ve lived long enough. My only worry is leaving Da Lang behind,” she said, her face showing the guilt she felt towards her son.

“Mum, what are you talking about? You need to stay alive to see me get married and have kids. You have to help me raise them,” Da Lang replied, his heart aching at his mother’s words.

“Yes, Ma’am, you need to hold on to hope. You have a grandchild to hold in the future. How can you speak like that? Think about your son. He still needs someone to rely on, someone to speak for him. If you give up on yourself, what does he have to look forward to? What if he strays in the future? Don’t you want to watch over him to make sure he doesn’t go astray?” Qin Xue tried to lift her spirits while taking her pulse.

However, the more she felt the pulse, the tighter her brow furrowed. Seeing this, Da Lang felt his heart sinking. Could she not help either? He had thought that since she had the ability to control people’s health through medicine, there might be hope for his mother. But looking at Qin Xue now, he wasn’t so sure. He wondered if the heavens could be a bit kinder to them. Please, don’t take away his last remaining family member.
