Naruto: Kage of Kages

After that incident shortly after the high intensity training in preparation for Shiki’s new life as a shinobi began, things went quite normally.

The low level elemental jutsu were easy to learn but it was taking work to get them up to a usable level where the boy did not as if he was simply wasting chakra for nothing.

He found a low level medical jutsu to serve as his Yang Release example but even the most basic one was C rank, speaking to the complexity of medical jutsu.

For Yin Release, to Shiki’s surprise, chakra sensory techniques tended to be categorized as such. Then again, considering the Yamanaka were fully specialized in Yin Release while also being all sensors even if actual capability differed, it made quite a bit of sense.

Shiki discovered this while researching sensory jutsu to try and reproduce the Mind’s Eye of The Kagura.

Sensor Ninjas require a subset of Yin Affinity that allows them to mold chakra in special Sensor Chakra which they can use to sense and track chakra signatures.

In Shiki’s case, the heightened awareness his Enlightened Trait, Trikaya gave him made sensory jutsu quite compatible with the boy so he was very confident he could cook up something truly impressive.

He was right . . . To an extent.

The end of the training period was approaching.

There was less than a week left and all his other tasks were just about completed, he was just giving finishing touches to everything, he was quite proud of his achievements at fuinjutsu in particular.

But then came the second and final incident of the training.

*

Shiki’s effort in developing his Enlightened Mind’s Eye, the name he gave to his reproduction of the Mind’s Eye of The Kagura used by the Uzumaki were on the verge of bearing fruit.

After learning various fundamentals about chakra sensing and grasping basic sensory jutsu, Shiki entered deep meditation assisted by Kukyo who had successfully been mastered on a basic level and soon enough, he could feel himself reaching a higher state of awareness.

‘This is what I was looking for!’ He thought.

The cosmic awareness tied to his True Body among the Trikaya’s three, was resonating with the jutsu he was seeking to create and allowing for a smooth development process.

It was the sign that told Shiki, he was cooking.

And so, he let his thoughts wander, not restraining them and letting the enlightenment take over to push the jutsu to the highest level possible.

Shiki lost track of time in this special state and only in the dead of night, did the boy finally exited his miraculous state.

Only to find out . . .

He had, in fact, overcooked it.

“Fuck.”

The rare profanity escaped the boy’s lips.

Shiki was not usually one to curse, even when insulting others he preferred to only use polite words, it cut deeper that way.

But this time he was indeed quite disappointed.

“I made something great. A truly created a powerful sensory jutsu that would arouse the envy and fear of countless people . . .” He continued muttering to himself.

“But it is utterly useless for the purpose I intended for it . . .” If not for the outrageous ability of the jutsu, Shiki would be crying but he would feel ungrateful if he did so now.

It was like he had two huge debts to pay and someone paid one of them completely, just not the one he wanted to settle first.

No matter what, the point remained that one of the debts was cleared so Shiki would really be ungrateful if he still complained.

In fact, the specs of the jutsu he developed would serve him far better long term but they would not solve his immediate problem.

‘No matter. I shouldn’t need sensory jutsu of that level so soon anyway. This is a win.’ The boy told himself but also felt he was raising a flag with his words.

As for the jutsu he had just created, its effectiveness was undeniable.

In pure sensory ability, Shiki firmly believed it surpassed Mind’s Eye of The Kagura. Clearly, the power of his True Body that remained inaccessible to him and seeped through into the jutsu.

It worked quite mysteriously as rather than acting as a separate sixth sense like regular chakra sensing jutsu, it instead massively amplified and spread out all of the user’s senses, both their normal five senses as well as their sixth sense that could detect chakra.

The result was Shiki being able to see, hear, smell, taste and feel across several kilometers while also being able to read the chakra and intent of others with perfect accuracy.

Even the most minute of changes that occur without conscious control, changes even dojutsu like the Byakugan cannot detect will be flawlessly captured.

Best of all, the sensing was undetectable and could slip through most barriers.

Privacy barriers were common in critical areas of the village and of most high level shinobi clans but beyond that, powerful shinobi were sensitive to this kind of observation with sensory ninja being even more aware of any attempt to spy on them through such jutsu.

Enlightened Mind’s Eye however, had no such flaws.

So why then, was there a problem?

Well, Shiki wanted to develop a sensory jutsu to watch out for ambushes and read others to see if they are being truthful as well as to predict enemy action in combat, much like the Mind’s Eye of The Kagura allowed.

However, Enlightened Mind’s Eye required a deep state of meditation to activate.

Even with Kukyo, Shiki would still need between 5 to 10 minutes depending on his state to deepen his meditation to a sufficient degree. Only then would he be able to activate the Enlightened Mind’s Eye.

In this state, forget about using jutsu, Shiki was completely immobile. Worse, the boy would require another 5 to 10 minutes to wake himself up from that state or risk a powerful spiritual backlash that would in all likelihood knock him out.

Forget about seeing through ambushes. Trying to use the jutsu would be giving any would-be ambusher the perfect chance to kill him.

‘Still . . . This is the most overpowered spy-tool there is. In a range of around 5 kilometers based on my current mental power, no secrets can be kept from me.’ Shiki thought to himself.

The boy immediately thought about mapping out the village with his Enlightened Mind’s Eye and if he happened to see any clan or village secrets in the process, well . . .

They should have probably taken privacy more seriously.

As for why Shiki was so confident his jutsu could slip through any barrier and evade detection by other sensory ninja, it was obvious.

When he first activated the jutsu, he had inadvertently spied on Mito in her private study.

Shiki could tell all her privacy barriers were up and if he could see through the barriers of an Uzumaki Sealing Master of the highest order, while remaining undetected by said Uzumaki who was also a sensory ninja of the highest order . . .

Then it was safe to say Shiki would be able to infringe upon anyone’s privacy without worries.

But that was a thought that came to him later, because at the moment he saw through Mito’s barriers, the things he perceived fully occupied the boy’s mind.
