Eternal Thief

Ace was astounded when he saw a Wyvern within the Undead Cradle. Although he knew this wyvern was a corpse vessel refined by the Corpse Clan, this was still a great discovery.

In the memories he got from the Corpse Clan cultivators, he knew there were many Corpse Vessels stored in the repository of the Lower Grave Strata, and some of them were extremely precious.

Only the high-ranking members of the Corpse Clan were allowed to have any knowledge about those corpse vessels, and if they wanted those high-grade vessels for themselves, they first needed to prove their strength and merit.

As far as Ace knew, the Wyverns were not ordinary Magic Beasts. They were descendants of ancient draconic bloodlines, beings born with terrifying physical strength and innate affinity for elemental laws. Even when alive, they were calamities, treated as objects of reverence and worship.

He had only encountered one once, briefly, during his time in the Union. That memory alone was enough to remind him how overwhelming such creatures could be.

But Ace wasn’t expecting to see the Wyvern race to have their seeds spread even in the Abyss, not to mention this Wyvern was a corpse discovered by the Corpse Clan in this mysterious secret realm. This only made Ace even more curious about the secret realm’s origin.

Nonetheless, this wasn’t important right now as Ace’s mind moved rapidly, and he didn’t find any trace of this Corpse Cultivator with a Wyvern Race corpse vessels, neither in Varcor nor in the memories of the other Corpse Cultivator he had stolen from earlier.

Which meant only one thing that the existence before him stood far above ordinary Abyssal Lords of the Corpse Clan and had no access to this chamber, as a matter of fact. At least in an ordinary situation.

’This might be the mysterious overseer of the Vein Carriage Chamber, who’s rumored to only have one task, which is to monitor the Vein Carriage of the Dead all the time. But why would he suddenly summon Varcor? The other Abyssal Lords could do that just fine if it were only about finding the reason for his sudden return...’

The Corpse Qi in the chamber continued to surge, spiraling into the wyvern’s massive body. The runes along its wings flared faintly with each intake, amplifying the pressure until the air itself felt heavy enough to crush bone.

Ace forced his corpse vessel to remain steady, and with a hint of trepidation, he lowered his head slightly in respect.

”Greetings, my lord,” he spoke hoarsely, maintaining Varcor’s taciturn tone.

The wyvern’s massive chest rose and fell once, then its deep, beastly voice resonated within the entire chamber.

”You returned.” The spiritual pressure intensified subtly, ”Explain!”

Ace felt the weight of it press against his Undead Soul, and with his own experience with powerful existence, his heart raced because this wasn’t just an Abyssal Lord; this was a Quasi-Abyssal Grand Lord.

Perhaps even higher, as he couldn’t tell with the constant flow of the Corpse Qi.

Notwithstanding that such a being personally monitored the Vein-Carriage Chamber, it was clear he also oversaw the Great Corpse Carnival and was personally investigating Varcor’s sudden return, which he had assumed was far less important.

Ace kept his posture respectful, his thoughts calm within; however, one thing was clear that he had just stepped into the presence of a high-ranking being whom even Varcor Dain had never been allowed to meet.

Under those glowing draconic eyes, he still stared at Ace with utter coldness. Ace knew that if he didn’t give an explanation, he might not be able to walk out of this place alone.

”I was actually summoned back by the Ninth Bone Corpse Commander! There seemed to be an important matter that the Corpse Commander wanted me to handle, so he summoned me back to the Ninth Bone Legion Division!” Ace revealed in a taciturn tone, with a hint of hesitation.

The Wyvern’s draconic eyes flashed with a hint of uncertainty when he heard it and found it difficult to believe because there were nine Corpse Commanders of Nine Bone Legions, and they were all Abyssal Grand Lords.

Moreover, each corpse commander controls precious corpse vessels endowed with high-grade bloodlines and talents, much like the Wyvern itself.

In a sense, even if this Wyvern was a hidden expert of the Corpse Clan and on the same cultivation realm as the Corpse Commanders, he had no jurisdiction to interfere in the matter of Nine Divisions of the Bone Legion.

Only the Corpse Governor has authority over the Corpse Commanders, or over the entire Corpse Clan as a matter of fact, for he was the supreme leader of the Lower Grave Strata!

”Why only you, Varcor Dain? I’ve just seen your records, and there’s nothing that states that you have any connection with the Corpse Commander or even with their Vice Corpse Commanders?” The Wyvern continued to inquire, as he didn’t just take Varcor’s words for it.

After all, the Wyvern was telling the truth because the Corpse Clan kept comprehensive records of their Corpse Cultivators after they were almost forced into ruin by the Evernight Council.

Varcor Dain was naturally in these records, and with the Wyvern status, he can get even more about Varcor Dain, but since he was just one of many Abyssal Guardians with above-average talent and strength, the Wyvern didn’t bother.

However, now that Varcor had suddenly revealed his connection with the Ninth Bone Corpse Commander, things changed, and the Wyvern wanted to know exactly what was going on.

”My lord, please forgive me, but I can’t reveal the information about my connection with the Ninth Commander unless the Corpse Commander gives his permission first. But even I don’t know why I was called back. I’m just following orders.”

Ace’s taciturn reply didn’t come as a surprise to the Wyvern since no one in their right mind would reveal secrets of their superiors so easily.

Furthermore, it would be like directly offending the Corpse Commander if Varcor said something he shouldn’t have, and at that time, it doesn’t matter if he can walk out of here without any harm because he would be in even more trouble with his superior.

”Pulling you back from the Great Corpse Carnival was unwise, and it’ll leave a bad impression on the other participants.” The Wyvern coldly stated, before a hint of malicious intent rage out from his draconic eyes, ”In accordance with the rules, I should rip out your Undead Soul and detain you in the Yang Chamber for a hundred years for your offense.”

Varcor trembled as fear became visible in his eyes, which was a normal reaction for any Corpse Cultivator when they heard about the ’Yang Chamber’ because an Undead Soul was only afraid of Yang and any element related to it.

The Lower Grave Strata have Yang chambers that could be considered heaven for ordinary cultivators, but for Undead Souls, they were nothing short of hell, and the Corpse Clan used them to punish their members!
